Chapter 1559: Ambition Rekindled, The Correct Path

~7 min read 1,252 words

Netheril has yet to form a unified conclusion on how to handle the accident that occurred at the Arcane Union, but the Elf World appears much more composed regarding the matter.

Evereska, inside a secret residence in the Old Vine District.

Faluo and a group of other high Mages gathered once again, with Xierdalanna, mixed among the members, casting strange glances toward Faluo from time to time.

"Everyone, I presume you have all received the news! A noble compatriot has unfortunately fallen into the hands of humans; I believe it is necessary for us to do something!"

Just as Faluo finished speaking, while the group of high Mages was still pondering, Xierdalanna could not help but jump out to voice her opposition:

"Lord Faluo, that intruder was sent by Cormanthor, wasn't he? This matter is unreasonable to begin with, so why must you drag us into it?"

Her words largely represented the thoughts of the non-Cormanthor high Mages, which did not actually exceed Faluo's expectations, but her jumping out so impatiently still caused Faluo's face to sink on the spot as he said coldly:

"Xierdalanna, what evidence do you have to prove that the compatriot was sent by Cormanthor? Here, I can tell everyone quite responsibly that the Elf was not sent by Cormanthor. If you do not believe my words, do you also not believe the words of Yilisier Mianwang?"

"Did Yilisier Mianwang admit it himself?"

"Yes, before coming here, I specifically went to see the Mianwang. He told me personally that the Elf in the Seventon incident had nothing to do with him, and furthermore, he had no prior knowledge of it!"

With Faluo saying this, many of the high Mages present breathed a sigh of relief in unison; the world is truly strange—if it were confirmed that the Elf was sent by Cormanthor, they would have made every excuse to shirk responsibility.

But if it were not, then there would be fun to be had.

Yilisier Mianwang's reputation in the Elf World is generally positive, especially regarding his credibility; even the Illefarn Elves would find it difficult to pick faults in that regard.

But if it were not sent by Cormanthor, who else would send a high Mage to invade Seventon at such a critical moment?

Almost without needing much consideration, the high Mages, accustomed to all sorts of conspiracies, immediately had a name pop into their minds—Illefarn!

Although it seemed somewhat counterintuitive, a Gold Elf high Mage who had never appeared before was perhaps, possibly, only something Illefarn could produce.

Xierdalanna was also stunned by her own hypothesis; at the current stage, Illefarn and Cormanthor's relationship is intimate, so how could they make such a mistake at a time like this?

Once such a matter is exposed, it would at best affect diplomatic relations between the two countries, and at worst, it could directly lead to a falling out; in any case, it would be a lose-lose outcome.

"Lord Faluo, if that Elf was sent by Illefarn, do we have any need to do anything for them?"

"That is a good question!"

Faluo looked at the little Prince with appreciation, "The relationship between Illefarn and Netheril is too close, which is not conducive to the overall unity of the Northland Alliance. We have a responsibility to keep their relationship in a normal state."

What constitutes the normal state of relations between the Northland nations, Faluo did not say on the spot, but the Elves present had their own understanding of it.

Suppressing the rise of humans has already become an unspoken rule, followed by the interest requirements of each country and each family.

But countries differ from one another, and their natural interest requirements are also different; there even exist irreconcilable conflicts between them.

As far as Xierdalanna is concerned, she does not care whether Netheril rises, but she does not want Eaerlann to be dragged into this matter.

Sharing the same thought as her was Haidelei; although there are certain differences between Haidelei and Xierdalanna regarding their attitude toward the Mianwang's reforms in the country, when it comes to maintaining the overall interests of Eaerlann, the two of them can reach a consensus almost immediately without needing to consult beforehand.

"Eaerlann will not participate in this matter, nor do we wish to be involved."

After Haidelei stated his position, the other Mages of the Eaerlann faction also expressed their stances one after another, including Xierdalanna and two high Mages from Siluwende and Shaerwen.

This scene made Faluo's eye twitch, but there was one who could not hold back his temper: Prince Saier, the youngest grandson of Yilisier Mianwang, pointed at Haidelei in disbelief, instinctively wanting to rebuke him:

"Mage Haidelei, you—"

"Little Prince, watch your words! And please also watch your status!"

Prince Saier's words were interrupted on the spot by Haidelei before he could finish. Afterward, Haidelei did not even look at the flushed Prince Saier, but instead stared calmly at Faluo, raising an objection:

"Lord Faluo, allowing Prince Saier to sit in was out of respect for Yilisier Mianwang, but he is not a member of the organization. If there is a next time, then you can play by yourselves!"

Haidelei's words were very harsh; Faluo was annoyed in his heart but had to smooth things over. At the same time, he also developed a strong dissatisfaction with Yilisier Mianwang's excessive interference.

Faluo realized that situations like today's might happen again in the future, and would become increasingly frequent as the Mianwang's authority grew deeper.

However, he also noticed that Haidelei's attitude had a stark contrast compared to before—or at least a significant difference. The Northland Alliance, indeed!

This time, the ambition that Faluo had originally suppressed due to Yilisier Mianwang's policy shift flared up once again. Perhaps he should have rejected the Mianwang's influence from the very beginning and let the organization become a true transnational organization!

After the little Prince interlude, with nearly half of the members in the organization clearly expressing their opposition, the proposal to make an issue of the Elf Mage in the Seventon incident was temporarily shelved.

But Faluo understood that Cormanthor would not remain indifferent, otherwise they would be taking the blame for Illefarn. Although the situation is not yet very clear, Faluo still firmly believes that the Illefarn side is more suspicious.

"Next, let's talk about some good news. Regarding the Magic Restriction Treaty, the Illefarn side has already loosened up somewhat; Netheril alone can no longer resist the general trend."

"That is indeed good news!"

"I'm afraid humans never imagined that the Northland Alliance they pushed so hard to establish would now become a means to restrict them!"

"How would short-lived races know the subtlety of the Alliance? These are all things our ancestors finished playing with long ago!"

Speaking to the point of excitement, the group of Elves called for wine and drank heartily.

"By the way, there is another piece of good news to share with everyone: the Main God has once again confirmed that the future of the Elves will move toward the light, which shows that we are currently walking on the correct path. For this, the Main God will bestow Divine Grace on the upcoming Blessing Day; I hope everyone will not miss it!"

"We certainly will not miss it!"

The Elves responded one after another, their faces beaming with excited smiles. Xierdalanna also wore a smile, but in her heart, she had a question—

Is this truly the correct path?
