Chapter 1697: Tower Spirit Configuration: Three Steps
It is just like purchasing a new electronic product or downloading new software on Earth, where one would perform some custom settings.
The Tower Spirit also requires a series of settings; while this does not help change its inherent nature, it can bring about a nearly earth-shaking optimization of the user experience.
Because of his experience developing software and using products on Earth, Xia Duo handled this step with ease.
After completing the generation of the Tower Spirit, similar to the previous test of the "Communication Artifact Spirit," the first thing to do was to delete some private information.
Because he knew he could continue editing later, Xia Duo did not impose too many restrictions when creating the Tower Spirit; in fact, to simplify Spellcasting, he placed even fewer restrictions on the Tower Spirit than on the native spells of the Tower of Time, making it almost a replica of his own consciousness.
And in the process of deleting private information, Xia Duo did not act as crudely as he did when testing the "Communication Artifact Spirit," but instead minimized the damage to the Tower Spirit's Mental Model as much as possible.
Because he did not want the Tower Spirit for the sake of repetitive labor, but to obtain the highest possible intelligence; simplifying the Mental Model might bring about rapid thinking speed, but the depth of thought, complexity, and the resulting intelligent efficiency would cease to exist.
After the first step of processing, the Tower Spirit could basically be considered "clean."
The next second step—setting rules—can almost be called an essential and critical step in Tower Spirit configuration.
If the previous privacy management is not done well, it is no big deal; in reality, the possibility of the Tower Spirit itself being invaded is very small, as the Tower Spirit is connected to the Spellcaster's essence at all times, and the Spellcaster would know of any disturbance immediately.
As long as the Spellcaster is not too stupid to have even set up relevant notifications, they can basically receive the message and deal with it in time.
The so-called "rules" are actually very simple; in Xia Duo's view, this is the "Mage Tower Management Regulations." As the hometown proverb goes, "A country has its laws, a family has its rules," and the Mage Tower undoubtedly also needs a sound management system.
If there are loopholes in the fundamental system, the result would be internal management chaos, including but not limited to personnel management chaos, equipment and facility conflicts, and other situations.
At worst, it could be exploited by enemies to "blow it up" from the inside, ultimately resulting in the loss of one's life and property.
Of course, although this step of setting rules is very important, it is not difficult to operate; it can even be said to be very simple, and compared to the privacy management just now, the difficulty is worlds apart.
Because it is much easier for a Spellcaster to input information than to delete it, and because the Tower Spirit possesses intelligence, this step of setting rules actually only requires issuing relevant commands in one's consciousness.
The Tower Spirit will understand on its own, and since its thinking pattern is almost a replica of the Spellcaster himself, there is almost no room for misunderstanding.
The "No. 1 Spire Management Rules and Regulations" that Xia Duo inputted were almost copied from the Tower of Time's management regulations, with differences only in a few details.
Most of the content has clear, judgeable indicators and consists mainly of prohibitive commands, such as prohibiting Spellcasting in the Library area.
The Mage Tower itself possesses a considerable number of open Magic Net Strings; besides being used as conventional "controllers" for the Mage Tower, these Magic Net Strings can also serve as "sensors" for the state of the external Magic Net.
The Tower Spirit itself cannot perceive Spellcasting; only by indirectly perceiving through these sensors can it judge whether Spellcasting activity has occurred somewhere and what the potential spell might be.
From this perspective, the more profound the knowledge the creator possesses, the more accurate the judgments the Tower Spirit can make.
In the past, Xia Duo did not understand why the Tower Spirit of the Tower of Time could impose fines; it was actually set during this step. This time, he did not set fines, but there are corresponding punishments.
For example, the "dark room" that deprives one of the five senses is definitely more impressive than a fine.
Xia Duo has always been dissatisfied with the Netherese Mage tradition of "replacing punishment with gold." Although it can greatly amplify his own authority when applied to himself, he also knows that this method is a hotbed for many evils, especially the ideology of privilege.
Fines can exist, but they must never be generalized without limit.
As someone who aspires to create a civilization, Xia Duo is absolutely abhorrent of this. Now that the No. 1 Spire is newly built, it is the perfect time to apply new regulations.
Because he had the Tower of Time management regulations as a reference, Xia Duo quickly completed the rule settings for the No. 1 Spire's Tower Spirit. Of course, he also knew there must be shortcomings, but there were no major loopholes.
Moreover, the Tower Spirit is not immutable once set initially; if necessary in the future, the Tower Spirit can be updated, similar to a "hotfix" on Earth.
Therefore, Xia Duo only checked it slightly before starting the next step—the Tower Spirit's Permission Level settings.
Or, "setting the permissions of Mage Tower members within the Mage Tower" is also acceptable; the Mage Tower and the Tower Spirit are an existence of "two as one, one as two."
Similar to the rule setting in the previous step, this step only requires Xia Duo to issue commands in his consciousness, first setting a few general permission levels, such as "Level 1," "Level 2," and so on.
Then, set the corresponding permission scope for these permission levels respectively.
Nowadays, the relevant permission settings of the Tower of Time are already quite perfect, and Xia Duo just needs to copy them over. In addition to some general permissions, there are also some special permissions.
Such as visitor permissions; there will always be outsiders entering the Mage Tower, perhaps guests from afar, or perhaps someone from the Territory coming to handle business, so temporary permissions will always be needed.
Another example is the Progress Society Sequence, which is a brand-new permission system linked to the internal identity of the Progress Society. Xia Duo might give Progress Society members some privileges to attract others to join.
Yet another example is the Agent permission Xia Duo has at the Tower of Time; this permission, except for not being connected to the essence of the Tower Spirit, has almost the exact same permissions as the owner of the Tower Spirit.
Xia Duo also set such permissions for Niya, which will take effect as soon as Niya comes to the No. 1 Spire.
After completing the permission settings, Xia Duo continued his efforts and started the "interaction settings."
The most basic is how to call the Tower Spirit; this requires triggering keywords, or using part of the Magic Net Strings opened as "controllers," or an independent Tower Spirit Connector.
If there are no settings in this regard, the Tower Spirit will either respond to everything or ignore everyone, neither of which is what Xia Duo wishes to see.
The advanced part of the interaction settings concerns how to bypass the difficult problem that non-creators cannot input information into the Tower Spirit.
If all information needed to be inputted by Xia Duo, he would do nothing all day but input information for the Tower Spirit.
Of course, he could also keep the Tower Spirit in a relatively initialized state, but on one hand, this would prevent him from grasping the relevant dynamics inside the Mage Tower in real-time, and on the other hand, it would be a serious waste of the Tower Spirit's intelligence.
