Chapter 1715: Hengchun Barrier, Future Variables
Looking further, Xia Duo discovered that this was not a complete legacy; the content was limited to the design of a Mythallar known as the 【Hengchun Barrier】.
Such a discovery made him breathe a slight sigh of relief. If it were truly some important legacy, although he could accept it with a clear conscience, the subsequent aftermath would likely not be so easy to resolve.
A small, not-too-complex Mythallar was something Xia Duo believed he could handle. Of course, if one were to speak of disappointment, there was indeed some; after all, he had held a tiny bit of expectation at the very beginning.
The so-called "Supreme Magic Secret Scroll," in the context of Elvish, generally refers to carriers such as books or scrolls containing High Magic knowledge.
It is merely a general term, not specifically referring to the highest level. Xia Duo had already seen many such legacies in the Projection Plane, though it might be the first time for Niya.
After all, in the past, the highest-level spells that Netherese Mages had (publicly) obtained from the Eaerlann Elves only reached around the 5th circle.
It was entirely reasonable for human Mages to consider such Supreme Magic Secret Scrolls to be the highest level and the most awesome.
However, from Cormanthor publicly revealing its hostility toward Netheril to the two countries confronting each other either openly or covertly, Xia Duo was not sure about other organizations, but he could be certain that the Seven Towers must possess the supreme legacy of Elven Magic.
Although not necessarily perfect or complete, it certainly existed. Just from what he knew, there was the legacy of the Star Dew Family, and who knew how many others there were!
And for Evereska to send him such a gift not only expressed the importance they placed on him but also did not leak any core secrets.
It was just a question of how much longer Evereska's family fortune would last to keep sending gifts!
Seeing Niya still tilting her head to look at him, Xia Duo handed the book back and said, "It is indeed related to a Mythallar, and it is very suitable for your introduction. Before studying the Communication Mythallar, you might as well take a look at this."
Niya took the Hengchun Barrier Book with a blank expression, "Is it really a Mythallar? Why would they send this to you?"
"There aren't that many 'whys.' I guess they might have learned from Laierlesi that I am interested in Mythallars. By the way, Laierlesi is the eldest son of that Elder Laruian who is coming this afternoon."
Xia Duo did not mention the fact that Laierlesi was already a High Mage. Since Grand Elder Ankalita had already gifted the Hengchun Barrier to him, it was highly probable that Laierlesi would not follow Laruian to the Tower of Time to communicate with him.
Like the Hengchun Barrier, a small, simple Mythallar, Xia Duo had also obtained some in the Projection Plane, which was an important reason why he had just thrown the book to Niya directly.
In reality, just looking at this book was not as useful to him as communicating with Laierlesi for a few hours!
Moreover, since Evereska knew he was interested in Mythallars, it was possible that this Hengchun Barrier was used to mislead his research direction!
Sigh—
What a pity!
Xia Duo had a premonition that if there were no special circumstances in the future, he would likely have no chance to discuss Mythallars with Laierlesi again.
……
Continuing to examine the blue velvet cloth lining the bottom of the gift box, after having seen the Hengchun Barrier Book, Xia Duo immediately discovered the key upon looking at the patterns and the positions of the Five-Colored Gems on this velvet cloth.
This velvet cloth could be roughly regarded as a spellcasting tool specifically prepared for Netherese Mages. The reason it had no Magic Aura was because it had not yet been linked to the Magic Net.
Once Niya finished reading the Hengchun Barrier Book, she could attempt to link this velvet cloth to the Magic Net, and to truly set it up as a Mythallar, all that would be missing was a Mythallar core with a solid texture and stable physical properties.
Such a discovery made Xia Duo's mood somewhat heavy.
Judging solely from this auxiliary spellcasting tool used to create a Mythallar, the Elves—at least the Evereska Elves—were by no means disdainful of contacting or understanding Netheril Magic.
It was just unclear whether this was specifically researched to mislead the research direction of Netherese Mages, or if they were already systematically researching Netheril Magic.
If it were the former, that would be fine, but if it were the latter, Evereska might become a more troublesome existence than Cormanthor in the future.
When Elves become less like (traditional) Elves and more like humans, that is absolutely a nightmare for humans.
Xia Duo felt faintly in his heart that the latter possibility was more likely. After all, he had already seen a Mythallar with Distributed Nodes in Evereska, and this was not something that traditional Elves could create.
Even if they were not systematically researching Netheril Magic, at the very least, it showed that Evereska still had the ambition to keep making progress in Elven Magic, as well as the more important ability!
For a moment, Xia Duo's mood was complex. On one hand, he did not want humans to have no opponents in future civilizational competition, but on the other hand, he worried that humans might not be able to compete against an opponent with such excessive potential as the Elves.
At this moment, he suddenly thought of the Bloodline Sequencing Project of Jilan Tower. This project could not directly increase human strength, but from a long-term perspective, perhaps this was the starting point for the human race to eventually rival the Elves!
Putting aside the gap in acquired cultivation for now, what the Elves have, humans can also possess, and can even do better; after all, a small boat is easy to turn.
But the innate gap between races is very difficult to bridge through normal means. The simplest point—lifespan. Even if humans use various Life Extension Spells, it is very difficult to reach the normal lifespan limit of ordinary Elves.
Not to mention that Elves can also use Life Extension Spells, which makes it even harder for humans to catch up.
In the past, Xia Duo had never looked forward to the completion of Jilan Tower's Bloodline Sequencing Project as much as he did now. The sooner it was completed, the sooner the innate limits of humans could be broken.
……
Originally, receiving a gift was a very happy thing, but now Xia Duo could not be happy at all. Listening to the cheers and shouts constantly coming from the plaza outside, he could not help but feel a bit irritable.
But Xia Duo also knew that this was the moment he needed to be calm and level-headed the most, so he simply set up a Soundproof Barrier and took out his notebook to start designing the subsequent systems for the Floating City.
Time spent in concentration always passes quickly.
It was not until a Temple Deacon delivered lunch to the garden that Xia Duo realized it was almost noon.
"Niya, eat lunch quickly. At noon, I have to attend the Prayer Ceremony at the Tower of Time. Preparing the Projection will take time!"
"Mm."
Hearing this, Niya also put down the Hengchun Barrier Book in her hand and put it away along with the gift box and the velvet cloth.
……
After a simple lunch, the two each cast a spell to create a realistic Projection, after which Xia Duo took Niya's Projection to the Code Plaza.
Among the three major ceremonies of the Midsummer Festival, the Prayer Ceremony at noon is the most important, the Sun Rising Ceremony is second, and the Sleep Ceremony is more dispensable.
Xia Duo basically did not attend the Sleep Ceremony in previous years, and for the Sun Rising Ceremony, he would attend the one in the Savile Territory together with Niya.
But for the Prayer Ceremony at noon, he had to attend both sides. His first choice was the one in his own Territory, so he could only use a Projection for the Savile Territory.
