Chapter 1878: Awakening
After Chris left, Xia Duo stayed in the study until late at night. Only after completing the brand-new Elven Magic version of the Avatar spell did he walk out of the study and come to the Laboratory where Mila was located.
"My Lord!"
"No need for formalities."
Xia Duo waved his hand casually, walked past the respectfully bowing Chris, and came before the Jinjufazhen imprisoning Mila. At this moment, Mila was curled up in a corner of the array, with two or three overturned food trays beside her.
Various foods were scattered everywhere. Xia Duo came here not only to see Mila's condition with his own eyes but also to clean up this mess.
Chris could not enter the array area and did not understand Spellcasting, while Sally could only observe the situation inside the Laboratory but could not even enter it, so naturally, she could not come to clean up.
With a casual Spell, he stacked the three trays on the ground, moved the scattered food onto the top tray, and finally moved the tray into Chris's hands, completing the cleaning work.
"Mila, can you hear me?" Xia Duo asked tentatively.
Mila's small body trembled, and her head lifted from between her knees. The violent, frenzied look in her blood-red eyes was gone, replaced only by traces of confusion and unease.
"Mila, you can hear me, right? That is your mother over there. She loves you very much and makes you delicious food every day. Even if you don't like to eat it, please don't knock it over, okay? It will make her sad!"
But Mila still did not speak; she only glanced at Chris to the side, her eyes appearing somewhat moist, and then she buried her head back between her knees.
Mila's current behavior made Xia Duo more certain that she had regained part of her consciousness, or at least that she should be able to understand concepts like "mother" and "food."
After thinking for a moment, Xia Duo said again: "You are sick now. Your mother found me, and I will definitely cure you. Please don't give up on yourself, okay?"
This time, Mila did not even lift her head.
Xia Duo could not help but feel a bit disappointed. He told Chris, "Talk to her more. Does she have any toys at home that she likes? You can bring them to her; this will be of great help to the subsequent treatment plan."
"Yes, I will go back and get them now."
"No need to rush; tomorrow will be fine."
Although there was no curfew in Evereska at night, there were still Patrols, not to mention that the Golden Rose Community had become a key surveillance target for the Patrols after the previous incident.
That area had no curfew, yet it was as if it did.
Although Xia Duo could provide his own mark, since she could go get them tomorrow, why rush? In fact, he highly suspected that Mila might have already regained full consciousness and was only acting cold on purpose because she could not accept her current appearance.
But regardless, as soon as he perfected the Purification Plan combined with the Longevity Technique on other mutants, he would implement it on Mila, regardless of whether she had regained consciousness by then.
Even if he only ended up with a shell without consciousness, it was better than dragging it out forever.
When it came down to it, Xia Duo's most important task in the Projection Plane was the Mythallar. The Arcane Infusion research was just an accident. Now, the Evereska Independent negotiations had ended early, and the construction of the New Mythallar was imminent.
Various progress was far ahead of the original plan, and he really did not want to delay too much time because of Mila.
Just as Xia Duo was about to leave the Laboratory to go to another laboratory to perfect the Longevity Technique Purification Plan, a somewhat sharp but clearly childish voice suddenly came from behind him:
"Can I really be cured?"
Huh—
Xia Duo turned around immediately and looked with pleasant surprise at the corner of the Jinjufazhen. At this moment, that small figure had lifted her little head buried in her knees again and was looking at him nervously.
Before Xia Duo could speak, Chris was already uncontrollably happy. With a sobbing voice but covering her mouth to keep her daughter from seeing, she rushed excitedly toward the direction of Mila.
But she was quickly blocked by the Jinjufazhen. The array area was completely impenetrable, and Chris just stood there in a strange, forward-leaning posture, calling out toward Mila:
"Mila, Mila, do you still remember Mommy?"
Mila clearly remembered her mother, but facing her mother's call, her eyes were somewhat evasive. Because Xia Duo and Chris were in the same direction, she didn't even dare to look at Xia Duo and lowered her head again.
Only this time, she did not bury her head in her knees but looked at the edge of the array.
Xia Duo came to where Mila was looking, squatted down, and looked levelly at her. Mila's eyes were still somewhat evasive, but they did not leave Xia Duo's figure.
"Mila, listen, you will definitely be cured. Have confidence!"
As he spoke, Xia Duo also cast a Spell to create a bit of light and shadow. The status of a Spellcaster could definitely add a lot of credibility to his words, especially to a young Commoner Elf like Mila.
The facts were indeed as Xia Duo expected. After seeing the light and shadow dancing at Xia Duo's fingertips, Mila's eyes became much calmer. Although there was still unease, she no longer avoided Chris but looked at her mother and murmured:
"Mommy, I'm sorry, I made you worry."
"Mila, come, come closer, let Mommy get a good look at you!"
Chris could not enter the Jinjufazhen, but she could call for Mila to come closer, or even ask Xia Duo to let her in to visit, though the latter might not have been proposed due to his concerns.
"Mommy, I'm sorry, I can't. There is still a 'bad Mila' in my heart. She doesn't like Mommy and even wants to hurt Mommy. I'm sorry, I don't know why it's like this either!"
Mila's words made Chris burst into tears uncontrollably. But before she had cried much, she seemed to think of something, wiped her tears messily, rushed to Xia Duo, knelt on the ground, and begged:
"My Lord, please, you must save Mila. She is a good child, she is a good child!"
"Mommy! Sobbing—"
Outside, as Chris cried, Mila inside could not help but sob in a low voice.
Seeing this scene, Xia Duo sighed incessantly in his heart. Sailuo had truly committed a sin, leaving behind so many human tragedies. This was just Mila's family, and Mila still had hope of recovery; other mutants might never be able to recover.
This one event alone had caused hundreds of broken families. According to the Elven tradition of valuing family, this would likely become a lifelong pain for their families.
At the same time, this experience made Xia Duo even more firm in his thinking: only within a magical civilization could the destructive power brought by Magic be better controlled, and at the same time, the popularization of Magic added another layer of necessity.
"Get up first. I said I would save her, so I definitely will."
Xia Duo waved his hand, and the power of the Spell lifted Chris from the ground and placed her on a chair to the side, then he continued to ask Mila:
"Mila, if you want to recover as soon as possible and go home with Mommy to eat delicious food, you must tell me about your current state without reservation, you know?"
It was very difficult for Spells to detect things at the level of consciousness, not to mention when the target was intentionally resisting. Additionally, Xia Duo was also full of wariness toward the Demon Bloodline.
Unless necessary, he would not make overly close contact.
