Chapter 1995: Identity, Self-slaughter
As a high-ranking member, Feilichisi's past experiences were naturally widely known; his family was brutally murdered for violating an Eaerlann ban by providing aid to the resistance organization.
At the time, the still-young Feilichisi was out playing, and was rescued by the resistance organization after they heard the news and rushed over; as the only remaining member of his family, Feilichisi swore to oppose Eaerlann to the end.
This belief in revenge and resistance defined the first half of his life, and countless Eaerlann executioners were put to death by Feilichisi and the assassination squad he led.
Later, Feilichisi's original organization was destroyed, and upon the recommendation of a leader, he joined the 【Aikelikesi Contract】, where he has remained until now.
If one were to ask who within the organization was least likely to betray them, Feilichisi would definitely rank near the top; this was proven by the Eaerlann bounty hunter "must-kill" list!
After the high-ranking member supporting Feilichisi finished speaking, the pressure shifted back to Kelusi, but he was not flustered in the slightest, pulling a processed, blurry image from a small light source above the conference room.
The protagonist could vaguely be identified as Feilichisi, but the voice had not been distorted at all; anyone even slightly familiar with him could recognize Feilichisi's distinctive vocal tone.
The other protagonist in the image was also unrecognizable in appearance, but the voice was not unfamiliar to anyone present; that person was a famous Eaerlann bounty hunter, known for publicly torturing and killing family members to lure out resistance organization members.
That was not the key point; the key was that Feilichisi's family had been killed by that very Eaerlann bounty hunter. To the high-ranking members in the conference room, this seemingly absurd, blurry image could almost be confirmed as a frame-up by Kelusi.
Seeming to notice the wary and disgusted gazes of the high-ranking members, or perhaps because the video process was too drawn out, Kelusi pointed to the light source above again and said to the high-ranking members:
"I will skip the conspiracy process for now; I would like you all to listen to this next part."
In the blurry footage, the Elf suspected to be the bounty hunter was about to leave, but suddenly stopped and turned back to ask the Elf suspected to be Feilichisi:
"In the end, I have one question I've never been able to figure out: why did you choose to cooperate with us? Haven't you always hated us?"
"It's simple. When hatred is vented to the end, only emptiness remains. Looking back on the past these years, it wasn't actually Eaerlann that murdered my family, but the resistance organization. There are so many Elves in Siluwende, why did they have to target my family!"
"So you are saying you approve of Eaerlann's rule over Siluwende?"
"What difference does it make whether I approve or not? As long as the people live in peace and contentment, it would be best if we ambitious people all died. Actually, I really wish I had been born in Eaerlann, to be a true Eaerlann Elf, instead of like this—born in Siluwende, yet constantly under the influence of Eaerlann every moment."
"If you had been born in Eaerlann, it would certainly be different from now."
"Perhaps!"
……
The conversation ended there, and the subsequent footage showed the Elf suspected to be Feilichisi handling official business. Kelusi shrunk the image and moved it to a corner of the conference room, but many high-ranking members were still looking over there with shock and suspicion.
"If you all still have doubts, why not listen to what Feilichisi has to say himself!"
"This—"
Kelusi had even considered this layer, and the attitude of the high-ranking members changed quietly; no matter how painful Feilichisi's inner journey had been, betrayal always touched upon a bottom line that an organization could not tolerate.
But to see Feilichisi admit to the betrayal in person was still a difficult scene for the high-ranking members to face; it was heartbreaking to see a former comrade suddenly stand on the opposite side.
But if they didn't see him, how would they know if Feilichisi hadn't been framed!
To see or not to see was a matter of a single thought; perhaps it was difficult to make a judgment emotionally, but it was not difficult to choose rationally, especially for members of the resistance organization—if they weren't rational enough, they would have long since been wiped out by the waves of Eaerlann's purges.
……
"Let's hear what explanation Feilichisi has for this!" the gray-haired leader from before spoke up first.
Upon hearing this, Kelusi nodded, then raised his hand to lift part of the binding on Feilichisi, but what the high-ranking members saw was not a Feilichisi desperately trying to prove his innocence, but an incredibly unfamiliar Feilichisi—
"Kelusi, you are truly impressive! I don't know where the leaders found these, but since everyone knows now, I won't play this act anymore!"
Feilichisi revealed an expression of unprecedented relief, swept his gaze over the high-ranking members, and finally stopped on the gray-haired leader, "Grandpa Sepeitiya, I'm sorry! And watch out for Kelusi!"
After saying this, he closed his eyes, and light faintly permeated from within his body. Seeing this scene, the high-ranking members with complex emotions could not help but turn their heads away; only Leader Sepeitiya watched silently with an expressionless face.
As the light radiating from Feilichisi's body became less and less, his entire body eventually turned into light quality and continuously dissipated outward, simply turning into Void.
……
Feilichisi's choice to end his own life in this way exceeded the expectations of all the Elves present.
Even Kelusi, who had brought this matter to light, had not expected Feilichisi to be so resolute, rendering some of the backup plans he had prepared useless, and instead requiring him to deal with them as soon as possible.
"After dealing with the internal hidden dangers, let's talk about how to counterattack next! We must truly hurt Eaerlann to have a glimmer of hope for Siluwende!"
……
Regardless of what the Siluwende side might think, Xia Duo, who had abducted Naris and fled into the Ether Plane, was still methodically executing his own plan.
Although Eaerlann's offensive seemed invincible, Xia Duo knew that Siluwende was hiding unknown trump cards; not to mention holding out until other countries intervened, at the very least, there would be no problem before he brought out the Floating City.
In the Ether Plane.
Xia Duo moved about in all directions, seemingly aimlessly, but in reality, he was looking for a suitable temporary space for the Floating City. Although the Ether Plane was connected to the Main Plane everywhere, the distance between corresponding spaces was not fixed.
It could be extremely far or extremely close; this was the foundation for the realization of the Ether-medium Teleportation Spell, and also the key to Xia Duo being able to avoid the opponent's Perception and quickly cut into the Main Plane battlefield.
True cross-Plane travel was too cumbersome, and the slightest interference could lead to unforeseen circumstances, not to mention in a complex war environment where any accident was not surprising.
Although the Floating City's Protection ability was sufficient to resist most accidents, that tiny possibility of resistance—it would be fine if it didn't happen, but if it really did, it would be 100% unacceptable to Xia Duo.
Therefore, Xia Duo had never considered summoning the Floating City from the Blue Crystal Plane on the battlefield, but instead prepared to pull it to the Ether Plane first, and then use the characteristic that the Ether Plane and the Material Plane were connected everywhere to enter the field quickly.
