Chapter 2006: No Way to Retreat, The Only Opportunity

~8 min read 1,403 words

In the central part of Siluwende, near Adofeier Fortress.

Inside a small city where the local residents should have all evacuated, a team of mysterious Spellcasters suddenly appeared, having been hidden by Mist and kept outside the line of sight of both sides in the battle.

This team of Spellcasters had a clear objective the moment they appeared, pointing directly at the Aurora Ocean that was encroaching upon the Adofeier Fortress Mythallar, their proficiency with the Mythallar in no way inferior to the Yierlan side.

This caused the Yierlan side to mistake this suddenly appearing team of Spellcasters for a hidden move by Siluwende, but just as the Yierlan commander Adalier was preparing to issue an order for the Bemacher Philosophy Society Mage Yan Xing, who was near the fortress, to provide guidance for a temporary War Spell strike, the unexpected happened—

The Fortress Mythallar, which had just been acting like a dead object in the face of their intrusion, seemed to suddenly come alive; the reconnaissance report sent back by the Bemacher Philosophy Society earlier could not be called wrong, but in the face of a perfect Mythallar with a Controller, it was still too far-fetched.

Even counting the bonus from the War Spell, it would be impossible to overcome the Fortress Mythallar in a short time; more crucially, the energy source of the War Spell being controlled by their own Spellcaster unit was now deeply entangled with the Fortress Mythallar.

In other words, abandoning the Spell might lead to Siluwende tracking the location of their Spellcasters; while it would not mean a total defeat, it would absolutely put Yierlan in an extremely disadvantageous and passive position in the Spell Duel between the two sides.

Under these circumstances, the best outcome would be to end this battle right here.

And if they did not abandon the Spell, perhaps they might eventually defeat the remaining forces of Siluwende, but could Siluwende have endured until now with only this one hidden move?

Adalier was more inclined to believe that there were even more unfavorable situations waiting for them; in this situation, Adalier felt inexplicably relieved—fortunately, he had dragged the Bemacher Philosophy Society in as a scapegoat beforehand!

At the same time, as the battlefield commander, facing a battle where victory was almost nowhere to be seen, Adalier decisively chose to cut his losses.

But unfortunately, even though he had already issued the order to terminate the Spell and temporarily retreat to the southern temporary defensive line, time was no longer on his side.

Or rather, from the moment he fell into the trap set by Siluwende, the outcome had already been sealed; by the time he realized something was wrong and wanted to retreat, it was already too late.

The Fortress Mythallar began to fully awaken; facing a strategic fortress left behind by Aryvandaar, the sole victor of the Crown War, Yierlan's small unit of Spellcasters had almost no power to resist.

The Aurora Ocean, which had originally been controlled by the Yierlan side, was instantly received, guided, and dissolved into nothingness by the Fortress Mythallar; immediately after, the secret location where the Yierlan Spellcaster unit had gathered to perform the ritual Spellcasting was also locked onto.

The moment he learned of this news, Adalier felt the whole world turn gray, devoid of any vitality; was he, the commander, the only one who would have to flee back to his country in such a wretched state?

Other high-level Mages might also be able to escape for the most part, but such a loss was far from something a mere Bemacher Philosophy Society could be held responsible for.

"To think it is an intact Aryvandaar strategic fortress, completely controlled by Siluwende! How on earth did the explorers of the Bemacher Philosophy Society do their jobs! They couldn't even scout this out! What a bunch of trash!"

But cursing was one thing; Adalier still had to find a way to secure a relatively safe path for retreat. As long as they could recover from this, even if it were an Ancient Fortress, the Yierlan Army could still flatten it.

After all, this was no longer the era of Aryvandaar; even if Siluwende could temporarily control the Ancient Fortress, the maintenance and repair of the fortress in a state of war could not be accomplished by a mere small nation of remnants.

"As long as we can catch a breath, just one!"

Adalier secretly swore in his heart that he would definitely make Siluwende taste the price of angering him next time, but on the surface, he remained calm and composed, summoning the messenger to announce the order for the command camp to temporarily withdraw.

At the same time, he did not forget to appease the Spellcaster unit, granting them the authority to act as they saw fit.

But unfortunately, the very next moment, Adalier received feedback that they were temporarily unable to break free, and after that, even normal communication could not be maintained.

……

At the same moment, perhaps even more miserable than the Yierlan Army was that team of mysterious Spellcasters who had suddenly appeared on the battlefield; they had originally thought their appearance could change something, but they did not expect that they had already become someone else's prey.

Inside the awakening Adofeier Fortress, General Kelusi's tightly locked brows finally relaxed a little; in his view, those mysterious third parties who had suddenly intruded into the war were undoubtedly Demon Descendants.

More than a thousand years ago, it was because of them that Siluwende, which could have occupied the Core Area of Aryvandaar (Yierlan) through war, ended up in a slump, missing a thousand-year opportunity for development.

"How hateful!"

Yet, they could not kill the other party directly right now; they had to keep them to prove the "purity" of the current Siluwende regime and avoid intervention from various countries in Siluwende as much as possible.

Although Kelusi knew that after this battle, Siluwende would inevitably become a pawn in the game between various countries, how much autonomy this pawn could eventually obtain was still a matter of debate.

If it were proven to be involved with Demon Descendants, that would undoubtedly be the worst-case scenario; I am afraid that for the next few thousand years, Siluwende would not find a chance for revival, unless—

A thought flashed through Kelusi's mind, but he immediately dismissed it; if he really wanted to cooperate with the Demon Descendants, he would not have waited until today.

Back then, many Sluwende Elves had voluntarily and actively transformed into Demon Descendants, rather than being forced to transform under unavoidable circumstances.

Excluding the possibility of cooperating with the Demon Descendants, there were not many opportunities left for Siluwende; only by being proven unrelated to the Demon Descendants could there be a possibility of further progress.

It might be difficult at the moment, especially with Yierlan's hostility, but Kelusi believed that with the glory of Aryvandaar deeply hidden in the hearts of the Siluwende people, Siluwende would inevitably be able to return to the path of prosperity.

His greatest reliance was not some Ancient Fortress, but the Northland Alliance, which now had an increasingly strong presence; even a power as strong as Yierlan could not go against the will of the Northland Alliance.

In other words, Kelusi needed to find one or more protectors for Siluwende within the Northland Alliance to counter the existence of Yierlan.

For the current Siluwende, this was very stifling and helpless, but it was also the only chance for them to continue to exist.

Thinking of this, Kelusi's gaze toward that team of mysterious Spellcasters became even more resolute.

……

Ether Plane, nameless wilderness.

The moment the mysterious third party appeared, Xia Duo knew that the opportunity he had been waiting for so long was about to arrive; the result was indeed as he had expected. Just as he finished setting the relevant parameters for the Floating City Jump System, the Adofeier Fortress, which had been at the center of his detection, underwent an unexpected change.

He had originally thought that Siluwende might already be able to use some of the fortress's functions to counterattack, but he did not expect that the fortress would fully awaken.

Even across a Plane and with the interference of the restless Magic Net in the target area, the moment the fortress awakened, Xia Duo received a relatively clear feedback—
