Chapter 2009: The Power of Annihilation, A Forceful Mediation
Xia Duo had originally thought that, given the arrogance of the Elves, these Eaerlann Elves would immediately use their position to counterattack after he helped them lift the spell lock, at which point he would just sit back and watch, observing their awkward predicament.
As it turned out, these Eaerlann Elves seemed to have completely lost their spirit; they neither counterattacked nor ran away, which was completely beyond his expectations.
On the other hand, the Siluwende side was exactly as he had anticipated; even though the Floating City's current display was already astonishing enough, the other side did not abandon their continued slaughter of the Eaerlann Spellcasters because of it.
However, this attitude from the Siluwende side was precisely what Xia Duo had been expecting and what he needed; otherwise, where would he find such a ready-made stage for a demonstration!
……
Adofeier Fortress, inside the Golden Spire.
Kelusi, who had completely merged his Perception with the fortress, did not choose to give up after their side's lock on the Eaerlann Spellcasters was dismantled by an unknown force.
Regardless of the identity or background of that suddenly appearing mysterious sphere, it did not hold much significance for Siluwende, which had already decided to become jointly managed by the Northland Alliance.
Any trouble would ultimately be borne by the Northland Alliance; Siluwende was no longer an independent country in any factual sense, so naturally, it was not concerned with these things.
Moreover, choosing to give up the pursuit of those Eaerlann invaders without even trying when he had the ability to do so was not Kelusi's character, nor was it the character of most Siluwende Elves!
But subsequently, several locks were suspected to have been dismantled by that suddenly appearing mysterious sphere, which made Kelusi, who had already accumulated dissatisfaction, even more annoyed, and he immediately issued an order:
"Change target, launch a probing attack on the mysterious sphere!"
This meant no need for locking on; launch a blanket-type strike directly.
After receiving the order, the Siluwende Mages on the suspended platform in the South District of the fortress's upper level immediately launched an offensive. While using War Magic Artifacts, they also utilized the fortress's excellent projection and Stabilization capabilities to rain down the fire of an avenger's wrath near Aisena, which originally belonged to Siluwende territory.
……
And on the Floating City.
Xia Duo was waiting leisurely for Siluwende's continued attacks, only to be met with a "full-screen" blanket strike—
Right before his eyes, a fire of invisible flames was ignited, causing the Magic Net in the city below and even the vast surrounding area to be fully activated, and even "boil."
This was no longer a spell concept in the usual sense, but rather one that reached the source of spells—the Magic Net!
The Siluwende Mages' understanding of the essence of the Magic Net, and even their control over the Magic Net itself, greatly exceeded Xia Duo's expectations.
Compared to spell locks or attacks that could be traced, the Floating City did not have any particularly clever means to deal with this kind of instantaneous spell that skipped the process of Spellcasting and spell transmission.
But since it was a spell, no matter how exquisite the Principles or how brilliant the intent, it could not escape one point: the Magic Net itself.
Xia Duo was indeed unable to prevent the arrival of the spell itself, but the brilliance of this spell lay right there; setting that aside, it was essentially just causing the Magic Net within a certain area to oscillate in a disordered state to the extreme.
While hindering the enemy's normal Spellcasting, it also caused the enemy to be harmed by various Induced Spells that appeared randomly due to the disordered oscillation of the Magic Net.
Facing this kind of spell, even if one did no Protection at all, as long as one's luck was good enough, one could "pass through ten thousand spells without losing a drop of blood"!
After all, they were random Induced Spells; anything was possible—there might even be a spell that could directly make one a god!
Of course, the possibility of a spell having a positive effect in reality was extremely low; otherwise, Spellcasters would not use this method for attacks. Generally speaking, random Induced Spells mostly manifested as elemental spells, which were direct lethal spells.
In an environment where the Magic Net was oscillating in a disordered state, it was very difficult for a Spellcaster to organize effective Protection. Without Magic, a Spellcaster was essentially just a mortal.
Let alone a large number of elemental spells, a small knife would be enough to end a life.
But unfortunately, this spell, which was essentially an indirect effect, had very obvious weaknesses, even when upgraded to a War Spell.
Based on the degree of Magic Net turbulence in the initial stage, Xia Duo judged that a High Mage was sufficient to maintain the stability of the Magic Net within a considerable area around themselves.
If there were many Spellcasters working together, it would not be difficult to carve out a quiet, peaceful, and orderly place within the turbulent and disordered Magic Net environment.
In other words, this spell was more suitable for clearing out cannon fodder; for organized Spellcasters, especially those groups led by High Mages, the effect was nearly non-existent.
In other words, although Xia Duo could not prevent the arrival of the Siluwende spell at the moment, not preventing it would not harm the Floating City in the slightest, and it was unlikely to cause much damage to the Eaerlann Elves below either.
In Xia Duo's view, the provocative nature of this spell was greater than its direct lethality, and he indeed needed to be angered by this spell.
Not just him, the Eaerlann Elves in the small city below seemed even more stimulated; to some extent, they even forgot that the reason they could stand there perfectly fine at this moment was entirely because of the Floating City above their heads, not because of themselves.
Of course, it could also be that the giant Psionic Creation that had just helped them gave them Courage, and they actually regrouped and defiantly launched a "counterattack" against Adofeier Fortress.
However, someone was one step faster than them—
Xia Duo, inside the Floating City, directly countered with a 【Wide-Area Prohibition】, incidentally separating the space, and then sent a Sending to the people below, inviting the Eaerlann Elves to be guests on the Floating City.
And his invitation was not to be refused; of course, stating his identity in the process was also a matter of course.
As for the Siluwende side.
Xia Duo controlled the Floating City to move slowly toward Adofeier Fortress. While moving, it was also slowly rising. At this moment, the Floating City was only two or three hundred meters from the Surface; flying over horizontally might cause it to crash into the Golden Spire in the center of the upper plaza of Adofeier Fortress.
Rising a little naturally gave it more of a condescending air of authority, but it did not rise too high, still maintaining the oppressive feeling of a giant object pressing down from above.
……
Xia Duo's very obvious "hostile" reaction naturally triggered further counterattacks from Adofeier Fortress, but for the Floating City, this was completely a non-issue.
Elf Magic indeed had many exquisite aspects, and Xia Duo could do nothing about them, but any spell ultimately needed to manifest on the Magic Net. He only needed to annihilate the environment necessary for the spell's existence to make the spell itself vanish into nothingness.
Just like that, the Floating City braved the "bombardment" of Adofeier Fortress all the way, without changing its route in the slightest, just blatantly telling the other side: I am going to be right above your head.
……
Adofeier Fortress.
If he could go back in time, Kelusi would definitely warn himself: absolutely, absolutely do not provoke that giant sphere. Judging from the fact that the other side could teleport, he believed that the other side flying so slowly, yet approaching Adofeier Fortress bit by bit with an unrivaled momentum, was definitely an expression of dissatisfaction with his previous probing.
"Damn it! What on earth is this thing!"
All means of probing and attacking had been dismantled one by one. Kelusi was now in a situation where he was nearly out of options, and just at this time, someone below was still asking tactlessly:
"My Lord, the sphere seems to be covered with a layer of extremely powerful anti-magic field; our spells cannot penetrate it at all. What should we do now? Should we continue to attack?"
"Attack what? Don't you see it's a futile effort! Go and contact the Northland Alliance, invite the various countries of the Alliance to station forces as previously discussed, and tell them to send Envoys over to discuss this immediately—no, send War Mages to support us. Whatever conditions they have can be discussed later, hurry!"
This voice was incredibly low and suppressed, as if Kelusi had squeezed it out from his throat with all his might. After giving instructions to his subordinates, he remembered that this matter also needed to be communicated with other leaders, so he hurriedly split off a Projection.
As for the behemoth gradually approaching overhead, for now, he could only pretend not to see it.
