Chapter 2315: Post Separation, Laboratory Newcomer

~8 min read 1,489 words

The next day, news of Depake's successful advancement had spread throughout the entire Territory, and Xia Duo had also arranged a brand-new job for him—joining the Creation Mythallar project team.

As for the Personnel Department of the Tower of Time that he had originally managed, it had been completely handed over to the relevant personnel of the Progress Society; Depake had already handed over most of the work to others while preparing for his advancement, so this was merely the formal completion of the handover.

This was, of course, not Xia Duo restricting Depake's power on the grounds of not valuing family; in reality, the relationship between Depake and his nephew was quite good, but there seemed to be a misunderstanding with his younger brother, perhaps stemming from who learned magic back in the day.

Even an honest official finds it hard to settle domestic affairs, so how could Xia Duo, an outsider, judge anything based merely on a few words from other outsiders?

It was just a pity that Depake's two nephews were already old, and his grandnephews were also beyond the age range of the Tower of Time's previous recruitment drives; otherwise, they could have been recruited during the upcoming Snow Melting Recruitment.

The reason Xia Duo wanted the Progress Society to take over the Personnel Department of the Tower of Time was partly due to existing plans, and partly because Depake had already become an Arcanist.

Generally speaking, the various Mage Tower organizations in Netheril would not consider having an Arcanist engage in overly exhausting administrative work, but rather have them focus on magic research in peace, hoping they would become a Senior Arcanist as soon as possible and subsequently become a pillar of the organization.

If one were lucky enough to become a Great Arcanist, the entire organization could turn things around and usher in its spring.

This is similar to the distinction between technical positions and management positions in Xia Duo's hometown; of course, if the Arcanist themselves has an extreme desire for power, that is another matter.

But generally speaking, people with an extreme desire for power rarely become Arcanists; they are usually eager for quick success and become an Archmage at the fastest speed possible, which is the absolute backbone of every Mage Tower organization.

In terms of combat ability, they are not weaker than a Senior Arcanist, and may even be more adept at (surprise) combat.

Xia Duo also intended to separate technical and management positions within the Tower of Time; those who do technical work should focus on technical work, and those willing to manage should focus on management.

Like Niya's housekeeper Saixili, who was a very ordinary low-rank Mage before undergoing the Inheritance Ritual, yet still managed the vital Material Department of the Tower of Time.

The current arrangement for Depake is merely the first step; next, he will step by step turn the Tower of Time into a more mature modern Mage Tower organization that integrates production, study, and research.

……

Creation Mythos Laboratory.

This is one of the first Level 3 Laboratories opened for application in the Floating City Research Zone; the so-called Level 3 actually corresponds to the Level 3 Researcher in Xia Duo's plan, a rank or title that all High Mages and above can apply for.

One can become a Level 1 Researcher by passing the assessment, and subsequent upgrades require thesis contributions and project contributions, basically referencing the Research Institute setup in 【Projection Plane: Empire Remnants】.

But in reality, the Level 1 Laboratory corresponding to a Level 1 Researcher already completely exceeds any laboratory currently within the Tower of Time.

Of course, the Floating City Research Zone is just getting started, and the so-called Level 3 Laboratory is just a label; it only possesses the conditions of a Level 1 Laboratory as envisioned by Xia Duo, but it will be gradually perfected later on.

Currently, this laboratory is mainly composed of three sections—the Comprehensive Testing Zone, the Sub-project Experimental Zone, and the Office and Rest Zone.

Among them, the Comprehensive Testing Zone is specifically used for testing the Mythallar, with the Magic Net environment being the same as the outside world; the Sub-project Experimental Zone is the main part of the laboratory, where most experiments and tests are conducted, equipped with a Spell Suppression Field covering the entire area to ensure the safety of the experiments.

And the Office and Rest Zone, as the name suggests, is a place for handling non-practical work; it is also equipped with an additional rest area where one can relax and take a break for a while.

The place where Xia Duo and Saville stay most often is here, conducting brainstorming, exchanges, and discussions, or theoretical deductions; only when they occasionally need to conduct experiments or verification do they head to the Sub-project Experimental Zone.

Aiboke has been a regular user of the Sub-project Experimental Zone since the beginning of the project, responsible for conducting experiments on the requirements proposed by Xia Duo and Saville and providing feedback on the results.

Of course, starting today, the Sub-project Experimental Zone will welcome another regular user, which is Depake.

As for the Comprehensive Testing Zone, it can only be said that the current Creation Mythallar project has not progressed to the point where it needs to be used; instead, Niya occasionally comes over to borrow it to test the Communication Mythallar.

It is not that Niya does not have her own Communication Mythallar laboratory, but that she wants to stop by to discuss things with Xia Duo, and Xia Duo lets her be.

At this moment, inside the laboratory, Xia Duo is leading Depake, introducing the functions and utility of each experimental facility while briefly explaining the details of his future work.

"Look, this is an editable small Spell Pool, which contains the vast majority of known Spell Elements, making it convenient for users to conduct various types of spell experiments. In the future, you will also need to record your experience using the Spell Pool in the laboratory so that it can be improved."

"Contains elements?"

Depake stared curiously at the very regular magic array patterns on the ground, interspersed with gold and silver dual-colored lines, and subconsciously said: "Doesn't that mean the Tower Spirit can cast spells at will using this?"

It is no strange tale that a Tower Spirit can cast spells with the help of a Spell Pool; the Tower of Time has a super-large Spell Pool that contains a large number of variable-circle spells to facilitate use by the Tower Spirit.

But if it exceeds the scope of what the Spell Pool contains, then even if the Tower Spirit knows what should be done, it cannot be realized. If the current Spell Pool is truly operating at the Element-level, the Tower Spirit might be able to handle any situation.

"This is indeed one of the purposes of my redesigning the Spell Pool!"

Xia Duo did not deny his purpose, but since he said it this way, it was clearly not achieved. "The Tower Spirit is not a true Spellcaster and does not possess will; you should be able to think of where the problem lies."

Xia Duo did not directly state the reason, which could be considered a small test for Depake; if he could not even figure out this problem, perhaps he would reconsider whether he really wanted to let the other party join the Creation Mythallar project.

"Will?"

Depake did not react for a moment, but as an old Mage and a newly promoted Arcanist, he had the basic magical literacy; he subconsciously began to simulate the spellcasting process in his mind.

From using will to forcibly twist the Magic Net String to form the first Spell Element, to combining multiple Spell Elements to form a complete spell, he repeated this twice and suddenly woke up:

"I've got it! It's the issue of Source Point positioning! The Magic Net is just a rough impression of the macroscopic structure of the Magic Net that a Spellcaster has at the moment they cross the threshold of spellcasting; the Magic Net is actually not a net in the usual sense."

"In reality, the Magic Net is more like a deep, long river filled with Magic Net Strings, constantly flowing. The first Magic Net String used during spellcasting and the second might be separated by infinite distance."

"Before coming here, I learned about the Mythallar. If it is a movement trend of the macroscopic level of the Magic Net of the Mythallar, then a spell might be more like a movement trend of the Magic Net at the microscopic level. Without the positioning of will, it is impossible to form a Spell Source Point."

"This is also the reason why Coordinated Casting requires Will Resonance first; it is to enable multiple Spellcasters to shape the same Spell Source Point, which is to say, the same spell."
