Chapter 251: Unicorn

~8 min read 1,414 words

Halfway there, Xia Duo suddenly asked, "Gelada, do you still have fruit?"

"None left, Keluo Na won't let me eat too much in the morning!" Gelada stroked his belt, his expression somewhat regretful, though he quickly recovered, "Keluo Na will prepare sugar-filled pies at noon; I'll take them out with the Supply Belt then."

A Supply Belt? Only then did Xia Duo notice the inconspicuous belt around Gelada's waist. Saying it was inconspicuous only referred to its style; in reality, this was also a Magic Item.

Both of them had quite a few Magic Items on them, but based on Xia Duo's experience checking Asuosi, he had subconsciously assumed Gelada also lacked any Storage Prop.

And when Gelada demonstrated the ability to retrieve items from thin air, he had assumed the other party also possessed a Personal Space; in his agitated state, he had completely overlooked the possibility of a Magic Item.

After all, the other party's parents were both alive, while Asuosi was merely an orphan.

On the road afterward, Xia Duo probed for information about the Supply Belt. In fact, the Supply Belt was not a Storage Prop in the true sense.

It could only connect to the warehouse at Gelada's home and retrieve items from within. It was limited to three uses per day, and one could only retrieve, not store.

All things considered, this should be a snack bag prepared by Keluo Na for the two little ones, Gelada and Asuosi.

……

Sukanweisa was a border city of Maiyelita, and to the north lay the bellicose and ambitious Aryvandaar.

The two countries had deep-rooted origins; the original founder of Maiyelita had come out of Aryvandaar. For thousands of years, Aryvandaar had never ceased its desire to annex Maiyelita.

In the last few hundred years, border conflicts between the two countries had been constant, and Asuosi's parents had died in one such small-scale war.

Under normal circumstances, leaving the city was not easy, but this time Xia Duo and Gelada were heading south of the city, within the Mythallar coverage area of the two fortresses surrounding Sukanweisa City.

Most importantly, the destination was not far, and it was located near the Mage corps' station, where Gelada's father was the Chief Official.

Once outside the city, it was the Visa Forest. The Lari that Gelada spoke of lived in the forest. Along the way, Xia Duo had probed many times but still hadn't figured out who Lari was.

He only knew it was a friend of Gelada and Asuosi. It wasn't until he saw Gelada shout Lari's name with his own eyes, rush into the forest, and hug a tall figure that had suddenly appeared, that Xia Duo finally realized who Lari actually was!

Lari was actually a pure white unicorn!

A spiral horn extended from its forehead, pointing diagonally toward the sky. Under the sunlight, it shimmered with a silvery metallic luster, and its pure, clear, sapphire-like eyes revealed a sense of joy.

Gelada hugged Lari's head tightly and wouldn't let go. After a moment of affection, he remembered the real business, "Lari, where is your little baby? Asuosi and I have come to see him."

"The baby is at home, follow me." A gentle female voice rang out.

It was actually Elvish!

Xia Duo moved closer without a sound and followed behind the unicorn Lari with Gelada. Compared to Xia Duo's quietness, Gelada was much more boisterous, touching this and looking at that along the way, full of joy.

Finally, Xia Duo saw Lari's baby. The horn on its head had not yet grown out; it looked like a small foal, its two eyes very bright and full of curiosity about the world. Lari's mate was taking care of him.

Seeing Gelada, Lari's mate immediately leaped up, guarding the baby as if protecting against a thief, "Gelada, what are you here for again? Don't think about teaching my baby bad habits!"

"……" Xia Duo laughed out loud.

Gelada looked completely innocent, but no matter what he said, Lari's mate was unwilling to let Gelada touch the baby. In the end, it was only after Lari spoke up that she reluctantly agreed.

Xia Duo also had his fill of fun. He didn't dare touch the large unicorn, but he wasn't afraid of the small one. He stroked it from head to tail as if petting a cat, and the little one liked it quite a bit.

Just like that, Xia Duo and Gelada played at Lari's home until noon. After eating the lunch Keluo Na had prepared, they were chased away by Lari's mate as if they were a plague.

"Lari, we'll come again in a few days!" Gelada shouted while waving. After walking a few steps, he whispered to Xia Duo, "How about we come again tomorrow?"

"……"

Xia Duo ignored him and quickened his pace toward the city. Although he had played with the unicorn baby all morning, Xia Duo hadn't just been playing; he was also thinking about how to spend the days ahead.

Leaving directly was certainly impossible. Not to mention the low probability of projecting into an Elf, just considering Plane travel itself, he didn't know when the next time would be!

The journey from Nan Jing to Seventon was long and inconvenient (for Xia Duo), and there was the cost of Plane travel—that Arcane Crystal—and he didn't know how to obtain one.

In this Projection Plane, it seemed to be the prosperous era of Elven civilization, conservatively estimated to be over ten thousand years before Netheril, with countless secrets worth exploring.

Therefore, Xia Duo had made up his mind to stay here for a good while.

Not to mention anything else, just this effect similar to a time chamber was worth Xia Duo staying for a while; it was just the right time for him to sort through what he had learned in the past and make up for his deficiencies.

……

Back in the city, Xia Duo managed to persuade Gelada to leave. He did not intend to participate in the afternoon Sword Singer training, and in fact, he wouldn't go in the future either.

Since the time spent in the Projection Plane would eventually be fed back to his original body, Xia Duo didn't want to waste time on irrelevant matters.

Becoming a Sword Singer, practicing both magic and martial arts, seemed good, but Xia Duo was essentially a human and didn't have much understanding of Elven Magic. Forcing himself to train might end up being neither fish nor fowl.

A more realistic problem was that the training for underage Elves was not like school in Xia Duo's hometown, where the schedule was packed full.

There were only classes in the afternoon every week, and besides Sword Singer training, there were art courses like poetry, painting, and sculpture.

Although these courses might contain some Knowledge of Magic, it was impossible for Xia Duo to truly learn them in a leisurely way like the Elves.

Unless he wanted to stay here forever!

But that was impossible. Xia Duo could already feel the influence of "Asuosi" on him more and more clearly, and he worried that staying too long would affect his own self.

So in the days that followed, the Asuosi that Xia Duo played seemed like a different person; he gave up almost all social activities and entertainment, staying indoors to study magic.

During an experiment where his consciousness entered the Personal Space, Xia Duo discovered that while he could recall the content of Elvish books in the Personal Space, he could not recognize the characters.

Without the instinctive assistance of Asuosi that he had in the outside world, this discovery confirmed to Xia Duo that the Personal Space had nothing to do with Elves, or at least nothing to do with Asuosi.

It seemed that upon entering the Personal Space, his consciousness became pure and was no longer influenced by "Asuosi."

This discovery led Xia Duo to add learning Elvish to his plan. This mainly involved memorizing the characters, just as he had learned Netherese characters back then.

Of course, this did not mean that if he returned to the Main Plane now, he would be able to speak or understand Elvish; all of this was actually the convenience brought by "Asuosi."

Xia Duo intended to use this convenience to learn Elvish; he didn't seek to master it completely, but at least he wanted to learn enough to have a basic understanding.
