Chapter 2683: The Affairs of the World are Unpredictable

Dakesi wanted to break the seal, which was of course impossible; never mind that he was currently just a Consciousness Copy, even his true body could not be easily unsealed given the confirmed fact that he was in collusion with Palisi.

Of course, Xia Duo did not hide this from Dakesi, "Under the current circumstances, I cannot break the seal for you. Let's wait until Consultant Feilifa arrives!"

"Alright then!" Dakesi seemed to resign himself to his fate, then asked, "Is there anything else you want to ask?"

Whether or not Feilifa comes depends on whether the Sacrificial Ritual of Palisi can be stopped within the city; if it can be stopped, then he will have a share of the credit, and surviving on that basis will not be a problem.

If it cannot be stopped, then it does not matter whether Feilifa comes or not.

By comparison, he still hoped more that the Mages in the city could stop Palisi's ritual; otherwise, he would not have had a falling out with Palisi.

"Sada is in cahoots with you lot, right?" Xia Duo asked again.

Sada was one of the five Advanced Mages in Metelier, and the only Advanced Mage other than Palisi that Xia Duo found while searching the Silver Spire.

Asking Dakesi this question now was merely to confirm it one last time, and Dakesi, knowing this well, did not attempt to hide anything in this regard:

"Yes, Sada is also in cahoots with us, and even with the clear knowledge that the ritual is in all likelihood a Sacrificial Ritual, he still chose to stand with Palisi."

So Xia Shao asked again: "Then why did the Arrow Wind Squad that came yesterday go missing? What did we discover that caused them to be silenced?"

I did not ask if the Arrow Wind Squad was silenced by Dakesi's lot; since it was not the Taiweimansa side, then it must have been done by the local authorities of Meteier City.

The Taiweimansa side gave up on continuing to silence people, very likely because they were prepared to disclose the Mist Event to the Northland Alliance.

Of course, Xia Shao also understood that Palisi being willing to tell me did not necessarily mean he was willing to tell Feilifa or the Crown King of Yierlan, but he still insisted on the other party answering; if they refused to the end, then he was prepared to reset this Consciousness Copy.

Hearing this explanation, Xia Shao could not help but fall silent; if Palisi was not lying, then an important reason for the death of the Arrow Wind Squad might have been Dakesi's recall order.

"What about you? What is your attitude toward the Demon Descendant?"

"Truly, the affairs of the world are unpredictable!" Xia Shao sighed in his heart.

"They usually harbor great hatred and dislike for the Demon Descendant, and Dakesi believed they could not cooperate, so those two councilors were killed immediately after being lured to the Silver Spire."

Regarding this question, Palisi answered quite candidly, "That reconnaissance squad tracked down a Temple Guardian belonging to the Darkness Society not long ago. The Temple Guardian sought help from Dakesi, and Dakesi agreed, but before the action, he discovered that this squad suddenly wanted to return to Evereska."

"So although I have some sympathy, if I had to choose, I would still choose to eradicate the Demon Descendant as much as possible, not giving them any chance."

It was just that he did not expect this to cause Dakesi's misunderstanding, taking the sudden return of the Arrow Wind Squad as having discovered some secret, thereby carrying out a silencing process against them.

After sighing, he continued to ask Palisi:

From the perspective of consciousness fluctuations, Palisi was actually not lying with these words; of course, to say this was the whole truth, that was not necessarily so—this guy must be hiding quite a few things!

As for why Sada wanted to recall the Arrow Wind Squad, it was because he wanted to meet with the Arrow Wind Squad to inquire about the transmission trajectory and the anomalies in the investigation report.

"What about the other two Advanced Mage councilors? What is their situation? I did not see them at the Silver Spire."

When he previously used the Mist issue to probe Palisi, the other party clearly had a reaction, rather than being ignorant and confused. Now that communication was finally possible, he naturally had to ask properly.

"Me?"

So that was it! Xia Shao nodded thoughtfully.

This answer matched Xia Shao's previous speculation, but it could not explain the subsequent disappearance of the Arrow Wind Squad. A reconnaissance squad of the Northland Alliance going missing once could be called an accident, but going missing in succession could not be explained by accidents.

"Then did Sada join the Illuminati?"

Xia Shao felt that those two councilors might have truly lived in luxury for too long, to be killed so easily; it really did not match their strength as Advanced Mages.

After speaking, Palisi was again in a state of apprehension, "Do you think we can really escape from this Sacrificial Ritual?"

It was actually like that!

Xia Shao did not answer Palisi's question, but continued to ask: "Did the disappearance of that reconnaissance squad earlier have anything to do with the Demon Descendant?"

Perhaps it was Xia Shao's indifferent attitude that caused Dakesi to loosen his tongue. After a long sigh, he told Xia Shao: "Regarding the Mist Event, I don't know much either, only that it is some plan of the Darkness Society."

"There should be no direct connection. They might have discovered the Mist Region generated by the Sacrificial Ritual, but that region was discovered first by Yierlan and regarded as a treasure, so that squad was destined not to survive."

Dakesi hesitated for a moment and told Xia Shao, "I have more sympathy for the Demon Descendant, but given the current relationship between the Demon Descendant and the various countries of the Northland, peaceful coexistence is very difficult, and I also do not want to be transformed into a Demon Descendant."

Not to mention, the disappearance of the Arrow Wind Squad happened while Xia Shao had requested to meet with the Arrow Wind Squad, and Sada had already made arrangements; silencing them directly was truly too low-level.

"Why not answer this question? It is I who am asking now, and I can still speak with you calmly. In the future, it might be Feilifa or even the Crown King asking in person; could you still refuse to speak? You should be clear that this is a question you cannot escape no matter what!"

"How much do you know about the Mist Event?"

"As for the Sacrificial Ritual currently in Meteier City, I am also not sure if it is the cause of the Mist Event, but after the news of the Northland Alliance reconnaissance squad disappearance spread, Dakesi once mentioned—a new world is about to descend, and everything in the old world will become a sacrifice."

"Now it seems that this so-called Sacrificial Ritual is in all likelihood the cause of the Mist Event."

If not for Dakesi's interference, the Arrow Wind Squad should have been able to return to Evereska smoothly and meet with him; of course, if they could really meet, then the meeting itself would not be important.

"That's not it; Sada only joined with Dakesi because he was very dissatisfied with the Crown King's reforms. Dumu does not harbor much goodwill toward the Demon Descendant."

"By the time Dakesi learned of this news, it was already too late; that squad had already arrived in Meteier. To prevent that squad from discovering any secrets, he could only choose to kill them in the city."

Xia Shao finally asked this key question.

But this question clearly involved the deep secrets of the Demon Descendant; if Palisi answered, he would inevitably be seen as deeply involved with the Demon Descendant, so after Xia Shao raised this question again, Palisi once again fell into silence.
