Chapter 3339: Mixed-Blood Traits, Read But Not Replied
Xia Duo might have overestimated himself, but under the current circumstances, there seemed to be only one explanation: his own existence was what restricted Dafuni here.
Could he do more, then?
For example, "knocking" Dafuni out of her current state of Void, or even going a step further to capture her.
Although Xia Duo felt sympathy for the past encounters of the Demon Descendant in the Northland and also understood the resistance movement led by the Wise One of the Illuminati, no matter how much he understood, he would still not let go of Dafuni, who was very likely the Wise One.
While pondering, Xia Duo did not forget to continue provoking Dafuni with words: "What is the point of you hiding here now? Why not have a proper talk!"
"Too late, it's too late."
Dafuni finally revealed herself, though she did not appear on the bench, but stood in the flowerbed less than ten steps away from Xia Duo. Specks of starlight dissipated from her pupils, but compared to before, they had dimmed countless times, to the point where she could not even maintain the veil form.
And this was the first time Xia Duo saw Dafuni's true appearance clearly; her moon-white skin was like porcelain, and her tightly furrowed brows possessed a unique kind of beauty. Of course, what attracted Xia Duo's gaze the most were Dafuni's eyes.
The emerald pupils were so vivid that they were still clearly distinguishable even from a distance of several meters!
But these were the characteristics of a Wood Elf!
Given Dafuni's status as a Consultant to the Crown King, possessing the distinct bloodline of a Wood Elf could very likely become the greatest stain on her standing.
After all, that Wood Elf Yuyan Shi Xuitu who was said to have abducted the only male heir of the main Moonshadow Family line could almost certainly be identified as a Netheril, not some other Elf with Wood Elf characteristics.
Although all this reasoning was based on speculation, Xia Duo had a premonition that he had very likely guessed correctly!
Dafuni's phrasing made Xia Duo's scalp tingle; it seemed that something bad had already happened, just waiting for the Alliance to notify him. He hurriedly asked the other party:
This might explain why Dafuni was willing to appear in the Li Jie with a veiled image, but Xia Duo had another guess, which was—
"Where did something go wrong? Have the Orcs within Netheril become active? Or have the Drow crawled out from the underground? Or perhaps Divine Envoy Taide discovered the true Abyss in the Underdark, and even let the demons inside rush out?"
Besides these things, Xia Duo really could not think of anything else that would leave Dumu without even the time to send a casual reply. Could it be that Dumu had not received his Sending at all?
And Dafuni's next words once again proved Xia Duo's judgment; she was indeed unwilling to surrender—
"Why should I leave?"
In fact, if Dafuni were willing to surrender, Xia Duo would be willing to intercede for her with the Alliance, and even hiding her away was not impossible, but he also knew that for someone engaged in the cause of resistance, their ideals and beliefs could be described as extremely firm.
But judging from the feedback of the Spell, Dumu had received that Sending one hundred percent.
"Can your subordinates complete the final Ritual without you?"
This seemed to imply that the identity of the Wise One hinted at by Dafuni was true. That is to say, the leader of the Darkness Society, the Wise One, the world-destroying maniac who wanted to create a new world, was standing not far in front of Xia Duo!
"You—" Xia Duo immediately became as if facing a great enemy. Although he could roughly determine that his existence restricted some of her actions, specifically regarding time-involving Magic, this did not mean that conventional means could not be used.
Unless he could immediately change the world to show her, it would be very difficult for her to be persuaded by a few words, let alone abandon a grand plan that had already been more than half completed, or was even nearing completion.
"Don't be nervous, Consultant Xia Duo, I was just joking."
As she spoke, Dafuni suddenly assumed a listening posture, the smile on her face deepening. She then walked to Xia Duo's side and sat on the bench they had just been sitting on. Without waiting for Xia Duo to speak, she took the initiative to remind him:
It was not that Xia Duo thought too highly of himself, but he could be certain that Dumu would not give him the "read but not replied" treatment. Even if Dumu knew nothing, at least Dumu would reply with a "don't know."
Dafuni was very likely not that Wood Elf Yuyan Shi Xuitu from the Moonshadow Family back then.
Or perhaps, a Netheril with slightly green skin had a pair of silver pupils or blue hair, and these were often the characteristics of a Moon Elf.
Dumu did not answer immediately, and did not even offer an explanation, as if Dumu had never received Xia Duo's Sending at all.
"There is no need for superfluous words. I know what I want, and I know even better what I am doing. I will only ask Consultant Xia Duo one thing: are you prepared to bear the consequences of launching a decisive battle?"
"What do you mean by that? What news will I receive?"
"Even if this world were to be destroyed the next moment, it is still not too late to turn back now. This may be no different from changing the final fate of destruction, but at least your heart will have attained Jiusu."
Perhaps feeling that she had once again gained the upper hand, Dafuni even cracked a small joke, but such a joke did not seem funny at all to Xia Duo. The clash of words continued:
In the current Northland, among Elf nations with multi-ethnic groups as the main body, bloodline fusion is something that can often be seen. For example, Moon Elves have a pair of golden pupils, but this is actually a characteristic of Gold Elves.
"If the Alliance side hasn't been deliberately keeping it from you, then you will receive the news in at most another minute!"
For a moment, Xia Duo's heart was in a mess. Dumu's state could almost represent the current state of the Northland Alliance. Dumu being tied up by something meant that the Alliance had encountered unprecedentedly big trouble.
But Dafuni only smiled without speaking. Such a performance made Xia Duo feel even more uneasy, so he took the initiative to contact Dumu, who was still in Evereska, to ask about the sudden incident that had just occurred in the Alliance.
"Then what makes you so certain that I cannot leave?" Dafuni smiled, her emerald pupils looking inexplicably creepy in the sunlight.
Xia Duo frowned and continued to respond: "Then why don't you leave?"
Not to mention the Time-Involving Ritual designed for creating a new world. For this massive Ritual Spell that had already progressed to the second half, Xia Duo did not have full confidence that he could exempt it.
But all of this had a prerequisite, which was that it was limited to the middle and lower classes. Except for the mixed blood of Gold Elves and Moon Elves, other mixed bloods were not looked upon favorably, and it was even less possible for them to receive blessings.
This was obviously impossible. Xia Duo guessed that Dumu was very likely tied up by something, and the degree of entanglement of such a matter was such that Dumu did not even have the time to spare a moment to reply to a message, which made Xia Duo feel deeply worried.
If that were the case, then the Wise One might just be a title similar to a position, and not referring to any specific Elf.
Dafuni might just be that Wood Elf's daughter; counting from the timeline, even a granddaughter was possible.
