Chapter 406: Standard Development Manual of Daxia Territory
With his worldview already formed, he held his own views on all things and would not easily change them; once he had decided on something, he would not easily be swayed.
Since there was now a "Demonstration Field," then things like "Demonstration Houses," "Demonstration Workshops," "Demonstration Roads," and "Demonstration Villages" were all under consideration, to show the Princess the advantages and potential of Daxia Territory as much as possible.
After walking around the "quasi-farmland" and roughly determining the scope of the "Demonstration Field," Xia Duo returned to his small tent, took out a brand-new blank notebook, and starting from the cover, wrote down—
"Standard Development Manual of Daxia Territory"! Xia Duo prepared to develop this Pioneer Handbook from the perspectives of clothing, food, housing, transportation, production and processing, and safety and protection, summarizing the various problems that might be encountered during the development process.
It could not only serve as a standard operational demonstration for Daxia Territory's future expansion, but could also be provided to the Princess; on one hand, it would show the advantages and potential of Daxia Territory, and on the other, it could be disseminated to increase the influence of Daxia Territory.
As far as Xia Duo knew, there was currently no specialized book on development in Netheril, or perhaps there was, but Xia Duo just didn't know about it; however, if it were being kept hidden, there was no need for Xia Duo to write this manual.
The most special thing about this Pioneer Handbook was the "standard," which was also the concept Xia Duo wanted to promote. Just as there were Standard Wooden House Components when building houses, there would also be standard bricks, standard roads, and even standard clothing production and standard cooking in the future.
This, of course, did not mean that Xia Duo had to strictly dictate everything; it simply provided a more convenient and concise universal method, which was conducive to large-scale popularization while raising the lower limit of skills.
Besides standards in systems and policies, there was another aspect that was also very important, and that was the unification of weights and measures; this was actually also a hidden piece of information within this Pioneer Handbook.
Based on the background fluctuations of the Magic Net, Netherese Mages created the 1st Circle Spell 【Echo Perception】, and at the same time, formed various time spells on this basis.
For example, the 【Magic Moment】 (3rd Circle) of the Tower of Time was a relatively accurate clock spell, and another example was Xia Duo's 【Alarm Clock】 (2nd Circle), which could maintain the 【Echo Perception】 state for 24 hours and could set reminder times by itself.
However, length and weight had not formed a unified definition standard; every family, and even every person, had their own measurement methods, and the most commonly used one was probably the standard instrument provided by the Temple of the Lord of Radiance.
But this kind of standard instrument did not have a strict definition, or rather, ordinary people, and even Mages, could not know the source of the definition; it was generally believed that it was distilled by the Lord of Radiance from the experience of mortals.
And in actual use and dissemination, it was very common for this kind of standard instrument to suffer wear, distortion, or deformation. If a Cleric were present, it could still be recalibrated, but if not, even a Mage would find it difficult to judge.
Xia Duo's method was much simpler; he directly created two new spells—
One was related to length, of the Creation School, utilizing existing Arcane Geometry standards to create a Constant Projection (0 Ring). The "constant" here did not mean it existed permanently, but referred to a "projection of a fixed length obtained from a standard spell."
Almost any Mage could create this kind of spell themselves, but the reason a standard was a standard lay in its popularization. Whether it was created by Xia Duo or someone else made no difference at all; only the one used most widely could become the true standard.
As for weight, Xia Duo started from the Transmutation spells 【Mage Hand】 and 【Levitation】, and through a 0 Ring standard spell, defined a standard suspension weight.
This was, of course, just one person's opinion, and other Mages might have other definitions, but they were basically all based on the standard instruments of the Lord of Radiance. What Xia Duo did was simply simplify these two spells and achieve the ultimate extent of what he could do.
In this way, as long as one found any Mage Apprentice and had them learn these two spells, they could calibrate the standard instrument.
Of course, in the current Netheril, the connection between Mages and ordinary people was not that close, and even Mage Apprentices were the same. The main reason for this was naturally that ordinary people could not participate in the production of Mages; in fact, Mages did not want ordinary people to participate either.
Yet in the "Standard Development Manual of Daxia Territory," Xia Duo provided many interfaces for Mages to participate in the production and life of ordinary people.
For example, brick kilns, led by Mages, improved production methods and standardized production processes through spells; for example, farmland, where Mages participated in farming through spells; for example, clearing forests, and so on.
If there were only one or two Mages, that would of course be too few; in Xia Duo's eyes, a Mage for everyone was the goal.
And even now, ordinary people could participate in the production and life of Mages. Let's not even talk about daily life—without ordinary people, would the Mages have to farm the land themselves? As for production, Xia Duo would try a brand-new production method at the Tower of Time, led by Official Mages, where low-level Mages, Apprentices, and even ordinary people could all participate.
This approach might seem to lower the status of Mages and raise the status of ordinary people, but Xia Duo believed that this was the beginning of a magical civilization. If there were no broad grassroots participation, development and growth could only rely on one or two geniuses or on chance; this was not a healthy development model.
Xia Duo wrote this "Standard Development Manual of Daxia Territory" with great care; it contained not only practical technical guides but also many of his thoughts on territory development and the development of civilization.
He had made up his mind to be a trendsetter of the new era.
……
The next day, Xia Duo presided over the second house distribution ceremony of Linshui Village at the Altar Square. This time, a total of twenty households were assigned houses, all of whom were ranked high in the merit book.
The usual performance of these people was witnessed by other territory residents. For these people to be able to obtain this batch of new houses, the other residents, besides envy, also had more to look forward to.
A fair lord would gain the trust and support of the residents.
After distributing the houses, Xia Duo gave the residents who received houses a day off, letting them assemble the houses themselves. After the baptism of working together in the Working Group during this period, the residents quickly formed four house-building teams on their own.
The standard modular wooden house structure was simple and easy to build. In groups of five, some even with family members, they went into action together. Under the guidance of the carpenter, in less than half a day, twenty wooden houses appeared neatly in the northern part of the Altar Square.
Xia Duo, together with Laidun, came to the "Demonstration Field" whose scope was determined only yesterday. This area was not large, about four mu, but because it was cleared early, there was no obvious debris left on this land.
Tree roots, stones, and the like were all cleaned up very cleanly. At this moment, there were already residents who had received instructions and were holding rakes to level the land.
