Chapter 521: Adventure, Intact Spellbook

~7 min read 1,340 words

After the meal, it was still quite early, so Xia Duo and Niya did not go directly to find that middle-aged man with the beard; instead, they returned to Giles Tower first to organize their Spell Notes.

A total of ten matches were held in the Snow Melting Competition today. Excluding the three matches where the Elves faked their fights, the other seven were quite worth watching. Xia Duo had also gained a lot, and since he and Niya had discussed them for a long time, it was necessary to do some organizing.

It was not until evening that Xia Duo called for Niya, and the two went together to the Port District of Seventon. The West Port at dusk, bathed in the dim glow of the setting sun, appeared somewhat languid.

The occasional calls of the workers also gradually grew quieter.

On the stone-paved road of the Port District, Xia Duo and Niya walked slowly, occasionally seeing workers finishing their shifts. It was indeed a bit strange for two Mages to appear here as night was about to fall, but the soft light shooting from Xia Duo's fingertip made them lower their heads and walk past quickly, pretending they saw nothing.

Of course, Xia Duo had no need to cast spells to intimidate these commoners; this light, which seemed like a living thing, was merely a visualized Scrying spell, pointing to the spell mark he had left on the back of the middle-aged man's hand.

If necessary, he could even teleport directly to the man's side, but until now, Xia Duo could not be sure that the man actually possessed a Spellbook, or if it was just a trap.

Of course, the possibility of it being a trap was too small; no one dared to scheme against a student of a Great Arcanist in Seventon like this.

Xia Duo mostly treated this matter as an excuse for an adventure with Niya; he even hoped that this trip would be a bit exciting!

Having been in this world for so long, Xia Duo certainly knew that so-called adventures were not as simple as fighting monsters and leveling up in a game, but rather required risking one's life to go outside and explore the unknown.

As a Spellcaster who had already become an Arcanist, and as the lord of a Territory, how could he possibly go on adventures? Only this kind of "urban adventure" could make him slightly tempted.

The middle-aged man's home was easy to find; Xia Duo didn't even need to go to his house, as he saw the middle-aged man pacing back and forth at the entrance of a small alley.

The man also saw him. The two made eye contact, and the middle-aged man hurriedly stepped forward to salute, his tone very excited, "Two honorable Mages, you have finally come!"

Seeing the light that burst into the man's eyes when he saw him, Xia Duo felt a bit disappointed with this "adventure," but on the other hand, being able to obtain a Spellbook made by at least an Advanced Rank Mage was also excellent.

"Let's go see the Spellbook first!" Thinking of the Spellbook, Xia Duo couldn't help but feel some anticipation. What kind of spells were recorded in it?

"By the way, I haven't asked what your name is?"

"My lord, my name is Padike." The middle-aged man replied while leading the way, and at the same time reminded them from time to time, "Two honorable ones, watch your step. This alley hasn't been paved with stone yet, so it's a bit uneven."

Hearing this, Xia Duo also noticed that the stone road ended here. The ground not only had some potholes but also some indescribable things; no wonder he had smelled a stench when he was at the alley entrance.

Xia Duo never imagined that Seventon could have such a side. It seemed that the bright side he had seen before had created some cognitive bias. He looked at Niya, "The environment here isn't very good, why don't you go back first?"

"No need. We are Mages; this little problem is not a problem at all."

Although she said that, Xia Duo still heard a bit of forced bravado. He took Niya's hand and simultaneously cast 【Flight】; this spell was most appropriate to use here.

However, the two did not fly up, but followed behind Padike. Xia Duo urged again, "How much further?"

"We're almost there!" Padike, fearing that the two honorable Mages would leave, hurriedly pointed to a crooked door not far ahead, "That is my home! The Spellbook is in my house!"

Knowing the specific location, Xia Duo pulled Niya and flew over directly. Now it was Padike's turn to follow behind, and he was even running at full tilt.

Just as they entered the door, Xia Duo saw a thin, small boy lying on a straw mat, gaunt and pale, his eyes closed, his brows tightly furrowed, occasionally letting out a few weak groans.

Nearby, a middle-aged woman was fiddling with a pile of unknown herbs, seemingly trying some folk remedy. Seeing Xia Duo and the others enter, she didn't react at all.

Slap—

Padike stepped forward and slapped the woman across the face, then kicked the pile of unknown herbs over, and roared in a low voice, "You still believe in that barbarian's Witchcraft? The honorable Mages are here, why don't you hurry and salute!"

Only then did the woman look at Xia Duo with some numbness, stammered a salute, and then stepped aside.

Padike's home was very small, consisting of only one room. Not to mention furniture, there were not even many eating utensils, and there was no place to start a fire here at all.

Xia Duo even wondered what they ate every day. Most importantly, looking around, he did not see any Magic Aura present!

A 【Spellbook】 made by an Advanced Rank Mage was not an ordinary book for recording spells, but a Magic Item used to assist in Spellcasting. Of course, it certainly contained spells, and even if it were damaged, there would still be a faint Magic Aura present.

"Padike, where is the Spellbook you mentioned?"

"My lord! I'll get it right now!" Padike first took a deep look at his weak child, then carefully picked him up and handed him to the woman, after which he lifted the straw mat on the ground and pushed the dry hay aside.

Pushing aside a layer of shallow floating soil, a wooden box embedded in the ground appeared in Xia Duo's line of sight.

Padike continued to open the box. Inside, some coins were scattered messily, mostly Silver Coins; one could tell at a glance that there were only 3 Gold Coins.

Besides the coins, there was only a dark gray metal box in the wooden box. Seeing this box, Xia Duo guessed that the Spellbook must be hidden inside.

Sure enough, the next moment Padike lifted the lid of the metal box, and a Spellbook with a light yellow cover, which looked well-preserved, lay quietly inside the metal box.

Of course, for a Spellcaster, the external integrity was not the point. In Magic Vision, this Spellbook was emitting a strong Magic Aura, and it also looked well-preserved.

Padike took out the Spellbook and handed it to Xia Duo, saying, "My lord, this is the Spellbook left by my ancestor. I have tried several times, but I could not open it."

However, Xia Duo did not rashly take the Spellbook, but instead let Padike put the Spellbook back into the metal box, and then handed the metal box to him.

For a stranger's Spellbook, it was safer to be a bit cautious.

Taking the metal box, Xia Duo examined it slightly, then estimated the feel; if nothing went wrong, it should be an ordinary lead box used to block Magic Aura.

Putting the box into his Personal Space, Xia Duo then mentioned the other part of the transaction, "Put the child down and let me take a look!"
