Chapter 815: Taking Down, The Mythallar Key
"That Dam Leaf is a secret document used by ancient Elf Arbiters to record private matters; your interpretation is incorrect." Xia Duo reminded him while revealing his form from a shadow in the corner of Genite's Study.
The sudden appearance of an uninvited guest in the room caused Genite, who had just been focused on thinking about a problem, to panic. Upon seeing that this uninvited guest was actually a Drow, his expression changed drastically, and he cast a spell almost without hesitation.
However, Xia Duo would not let him off so easily; he countered every single spell the other party cast, one by one.
This Secret Text Master from Domutos, though an Elf Elite Mage similar to a human Advanced Rank Mage, clearly revealed a sense of artificiality in his spellcasting.
Let alone an Arcanist like Xia Duo, who had a profound understanding of the essence of Magic, even an ordinary human Advanced Rank Mage could easily take him down if they responded appropriately.
On the surface, the biggest difference between Elven Magic and Netheril Magic is that Elves have not yet abandoned the use of incantations in their daily spellcasting.
Using incantations as an aid can indeed reduce the difficulty of spellcasting to a certain extent, but in terms of efficiency, it is not as concise or effective as Netheril Magic.
Perhaps some Elves simplify complex incantations into monosyllabic words, but clearly, only those Mages specialized in combat would do so.
Or perhaps Magic Warriors with only a small amount of magical ability, such as Elf Sword Singers, would replace complex incantations with sword stances or monosyllabic words.
After all, there are not as many spells used to defeat an enemy in actual combat as one might imagine.
Genite is not known for being skilled in combat, but rather for being skilled in deciphering secret texts; in Earth terms, this is a desk-bound worker who carries a gun.
Of course, Xia Duo could also be considered a desk-bound worker or an administrator, but in this Projection Plane, Netheril has not even appeared yet, let alone the Netheril Arcane Magic System.
The unfamiliar implies mystery, and mystery often implies power.
To put it bluntly, it is actually that Genite has never seen human spells and finds it difficult to adapt to this unfamiliar way of spellcasting and the form of magical confrontation.
Consequently, after a few simple rounds, Xia Duo easily took him down.
……
After Xia Duo subdued him, he first set up a Soundproof Barrier in the surroundings before walking out from the shadows.
Facing the light of the Magic Lamp, he walked right up to Genite, stared into his golden eyes, and said with a smile:
"Master Genite, this is hardly the way to treat a guest!"
"Hmph!"
Genite did not speak, but his eyes were clearly filled with disgust and disdain; of course, there was also a lingering trace of fear constantly brewing.
Compared to Genite's panic and fear, Xia Duo appeared much more composed. He first circled the desk twice, then picked up the stack of Dam Leaf Documents written in secret text and flipped through them one by one.
Of course, just looking at them would not reveal the true content of the documents; one must use a relatively special method to truly decipher them.
When Xia Duo was incarnated as an ancient Elf in 【Projection Plane: Maiyuelita Sukanweisa City】, he had heard a rumor about Elf Arbiters that was related to Dam Leaf Documents.
He had just confirmed again that these Dam Leaf Documents indeed bore the marks left by an Arbiter; perhaps they could be deciphered using that special method.
If things were truly as he imagined, he could probably guess some of the content of these documents.
Casually putting down the stack of leaves, Xia Duo picked up some handwritten notes from Genite's desk and flipped through them, but there was not much content related to spells.
Most were related to secret text deciphering, filled with all sorts of guesses, scattered and lacking a system.
Clearly, Genite's research progress was not going smoothly.
Besides the materials on the desk, there were a few books related to Dam Leaf Documents; Xia Duo flipped through a few pages and stopped reading.
He was not interested in such books, especially knowing that these researchers were likely heading in the wrong direction, so there was even less need to read them.
As for other books, there were none in the Study, but a few antiques placed on the bookshelf nearby made Xia Duo quite interested.
One of them was somewhat similar to the ancient clay tablet he had excavated in the ruins of his Territory, only it was damaged quite severely.
The Arcane Geometry patterns on it were almost invisible, with only a few scattered strange characters, seemingly telling of its origin.
Under Genite's gaze, which was so angry he had almost forgotten his fear, Xia Duo packed everything in the Study that could be taken into his Personal Space, and then began searching Genite's person.
"Damn Drow, take your filthy hands off me!"
This was followed by a series of sharp insults and curses; it was hard to imagine that an Elf who always prided himself on being noble and elegant would engage in such vulgar behavior.
However, Xia Duo did not care at all. He was the one getting the benefits, so being scolded did not matter; he was a Drow now anyway.
Furthermore, many of the Elf's insults actually had meanings of praise and commendation in the Drow language. Since he was incarnated as a Drow, he would just take it as the other party praising him.
There were quite a few Magic Items on Genite. Although he could not take them back to the Main Plane, based on the idea of stimulating the other party to the maximum, Xia Duo still took all of them away.
When he saw Xia Duo untying his Mage Robe, this Gold Elf Secret Text Master, who had been holding on, finally could not take it anymore and shouted: "Drow, what exactly do you want to do!"
"Master Genite, I would like to borrow something from you!"
"What?"
Genite widened his eyes, seemingly unable to believe that a Drow, who always appeared with a cruel and cunning image, would have such a simple purpose. "What do you want to borrow?"
Xia Duo naturally did not say something as mood-killing as "borrowing your head," but instead placed the Magic Items he had just searched from Genite onto the desk one by one.
After an inspection, he picked out an accessory that looked like a Miniature Scepter, then took it to Genite and said to him: "I'm borrowing your Library!"
This Miniature Scepter accessory was the only thing Xia Duo could not determine the general use of, yet it was linked to dense Magic Net Strings, the deepest of which exceeded Xia Duo's range of Perception.
If anything was most likely to be the key to the Small Mythallar in the Library, Xia Duo could not think of anything other than this Miniature Scepter.
With Genite's level of magical attainment, that Small Mythallar was certainly not set up by him personally, nor did he have the power to control it. In other words, if Genite wanted to control that Small Mythallar, he must have had to use some medium to control it indirectly.
Otherwise, wouldn't the Library change owners the moment the creator of the Mythallar arrived?
Perhaps the reality was exactly that, but Elves sometimes value face very much; even if the creator could indeed regain control the moment they arrived, they would still leave some leeway for Genite, at least to keep up appearances.
