Chapter 918: Sudden Murloc Tide
Nan Jing, Tower of Time.
Xia Duo had not expected a New Year Festival to involve such a wide scope; he had already prepared to head to Seventon.
If it weren't for the fact that the experimental conditions at the Tower of Time were unavailable in Seventon, he might have already taken Niya there.
On this day, he had just finished the final Q&A session for the Intermediate Mage Advanced Study Class at the Tower of Time and was preparing to call Niya for lunch when a Sending that should not have appeared suddenly arrived.
The content was very simple, consisting only of a string of seemingly irregular numbers.
But Xia Duo immediately realized that something might have gone wrong; this was a Sending Scroll he had distributed to the Scouts of the Savile Territory as a warning during the Dragon Disaster.
Those numbers indeed had no pattern, but they represented different warning locations, and even different Scout teams.
And the location of this warning was the north?
Could another dragon be attacking? But hadn't the King-Slaying Star long since dissipated?
Xia Duo's heart tightened. He first sent a message to Niya and Aiboke to briefly explain, then quickly went to the Teleportation Room.
Through the Fixed Teleportation Portal set up there and connected to Savile Town, Xia Duo soon arrived at the original site of the Tower of Time in Savile Town.
Just as he stepped out of the portal, he heard waves of roars coming from the north, interspersed with the strange cries of non-human species.
These sounds rose and fell, intertwining; it was clearly a battlefield in the midst of slaughter!
Near the portal, soldiers were continuously gathering. Xia Duo immediately realized something was wrong, and listening to those non-human sounds, he even felt a sense of familiarity.
"My Lord, you have finally come!"
As he was recalling, a person suddenly walked into the temporary building where the portal was located. Having his train of thought interrupted, Xia Duo was somewhat annoyed, though he had indeed figured out what that sound was.
Looking at the person who arrived, it was Saier Town Mayor, but he was in a sorry state at this moment; half of his body was soaked, and his face was covered in dust. He ran up to Xia Duo and said, panting:
"My Lord, a Murloc Tide has suddenly erupted in the Wolfburg River. The situation is extremely critical; please, My Lord, lend us your aid!"
As he was speaking, Niya and Aiboke walked out of the portal one after another. Seeing them, Saier seemed even more like he had found a savior; he hurriedly ran over to grab Aiboke's hand, dragging him toward the outside while saying:
"Quick, those murlocs are too crazy!"
Regarding his old friend's dragging, Aiboke did not put up any resistance; he simply nodded to Xia Duo and Niya, and then followed along, leaving the temporary building.
"Xia Duo, let's go over too!"
Niya's expression was grave. She called Xia Duo to go with her, explaining as they walked outside: "Right after you contacted me, I immediately received news from Depake, saying that a mage who had taken a duty shift task reported that a Murloc Tide had suddenly appeared north of the town, acting like they were insane, desperately attacking humans."
Murloc Tide?
Xia Duo muttered this term, which was extremely similar to Orc Tide. At this moment, the non-human sounds coming from outside were indeed made by a large number of murlocs, which made him think of the murlocs in Maihete Lake to the north.
Could the murloc farm of the Ming Shui Chamber of Commerce have caused some trouble again?
……
Walking out of the temporary building "protecting" the portal, Xia Duo and Niya followed the rapidly advancing squad of soldiers to the north of the original Tower of Time site, which had already been leveled.
Once they arrived, the sounds of battle and the roars of the murlocs became even louder. Looking out, there was almost no water visible nearby; the surface was densely packed with dark green fish heads!
At a glance, it made one's scalp tingle!
On the shore, the south bank gathered the majority of the landed murlocs, while only a few murlocs had come ashore on the north and west sides. Even after coming ashore, they still lingered at the water's edge, as if they could leap back into the water at any moment to swim to the east or south.
As soon as Xia Duo and Niya arrived, an Elf suddenly popped out from the crowd. Niya was startled, but Xia Duo was much calmer; he recognized the other party as Aoruipusi, the Patriarch of the Silver Leaf Family.
In a sense, he could also be considered a friend of Xia Duo.
At this moment, Aoruipusi did not have much of an Elf's elegance to speak of; not only was his hair in disarray, but he also exuded a foul, fishy stench. It seemed he had fought the murlocs quite a bit earlier.
"Lord Xia Duo, I was just about to contact you! These murlocs are truly too crazy; even knowing that a dead end lies ahead, they still keep charging up!"
Xia Duo looked at the scene of the murlocs crazily charging the Savile soldiers' defensive line and nodded. "Patriarch Aoruipusi, thank you for your assistance. The Savile Territory will not forget the friendship of the Silver Leaf Family!"
These words should have been spoken by Niya, but Niya was not familiar with Aoruipusi, and the situation was urgent, so Xia Duo took the liberty of speaking for her. Anyway, they were husband and wife, and it was the same whoever said it.
Xia Duo's words made Aoruipusi very satisfied. He wiped the water droplets from his hair, suppressed an expression of disgust, and squeezed out a smile. "Lord Xia Duo, you are too kind. Now that the Silver Leaf Family has settled in Savile Town, protecting this place is also our duty!"
It was already very difficult for an Elf to appear in such an occasion voluntarily. Xia Duo could feel the other party's sincerity. "The situation is urgent, so I won't say any more. Let's have a proper exchange after we resolve the Murloc Tide."
"No problem!"
Aoruipusi saw that Xia Duo was about to take action, responded, stepped aside, cast a cleaning spell on himself, and waited quietly.
……
In fact, just looking at the murlocs continuously emerging in front, Xia Duo was at a loss for how to start for a moment. He noticed that there were not many corpses on the battlefield.
Of course, this mainly referred to murloc corpses; there were almost no deaths on the human side, at most they were tired or injured, and then others would step in to replace them.
However, this situation could not be maintained for long. When the limit was reached, or even before the limit was reached, the defensive line would collapse entirely.
At the same time, Xia Duo also noticed that Aiboke had already tried casting a few spells, which had indeed caused quite a bit of damage.
But for the murlocs, who were densely packed on the water and of unknown numbers beneath it, this was simply painless and itchy; after the spells, one couldn't even find the traces of the magic.
The corpses and remains were all dragged underwater by the murlocs, which was why there were few corpses on the battlefield.
Even the murloc corpses on the shore were pulled back into the water; only the dark red blood mixed with mud on the shore indicated that real slaughter had indeed occurred here.
Otherwise, Xia Duo would have really thought this was a farce performed by humans and murlocs!
"Lord Xia Duo, you've finally come!"
Just as he was pondering, another Elf flew over from the crowd not far away. Xia Duo took a brief look at the other party's face and, after a moment of thought, recognized the person's identity—
"So it is Elder Aobolaien. Thank you for your assistance!"
Aobolaien was Aoruipusi's father and also a High Mage who had once had dealings with Niya's great-grandfather Saville; he certainly had the status.
Moreover, there were quite a few Elven mages in Savile Town during this Murloc Tide, but only the mages of the Silver Leaf Family were willing to stand up and help. Xia Duo naturally would not be stingy with words of gratitude.
And Aobolaien was not polite either; he accepted it entirely and said, "I've blocked the murlocs for you for so long, I'm tired. You can handle the rest yourself!"
Only then did Xia Duo realize that the Murloc Tide hadn't extended its front line by moving south along the Wolfburg River because Aobolaien had been exerting effort; he had thought the murlocs were truly completely attracted by the humans!
Elven Magic truly has its unique aspects!
