Chapter 970: Observations in the Divine Realm, Divine Envoy of Holy Light
This time, Xia Duo did not cast a Scrying Spell to observe; instead, he leaped directly into the air, riding the clouds and mist to fly up, wanting to see it with his own eyes.
The wind of the wilderness carried a hint of decay. Xia Duo wove through it, letting it brush past him. He ascended rapidly, and only stopped when the crooked-neck tree on the ground became no larger than a finger.
He saw the sun in the distance; although it was still very far away, it was much closer than when he had observed it last time. This discovery filled his heart with great joy.
This meant that the Proverbs were indeed a shortcut!
Consequently, Xia Duo did not land on the ground. Instead, he stayed in the sky, oriented himself toward the sun, and recited the Proverbs as he flew.
He was also very curious in his heart about what the process of approaching the Kingdom of Radiance was actually like. Now that he was flying in the sky, he should be able to see it more clearly.
The facts were just as Xia Duo had thought. As he continued to fly forward, the scenery on the ground changed continuously, and the Kingdom of Radiance approached at a speed that was almost visible to the naked eye.
Before this, when he had not recited the Proverbs, it was not like this. Back then, no matter how fast he flew, he could not see any reduction in the actual distance.
Perhaps at that time, he had thought more about how to fly faster, rather than wanting to reach the Kingdom of Radiance.
But now that he had the shortcut of the Proverbs, he could truly fly to the Kingdom of Radiance!
……
Just like that, after more than twenty hours of intermittent high-speed flight, Xia Duo finally saw the concrete outline of the Kingdom of Radiance on the ground, rather than just the incandescent sun on the horizon.
And as he drew closer, that incandescent sun rose higher and higher, and the outline of the Kingdom of Radiance became clearer and clearer.
Soon, Xia Duo saw a different landscape beyond the dim, Boundless Wilderness—
It was a vast expanse of neatly arranged farmland, orchards, and forests, with roads, lakes, and buildings interspersed among them. Everything looked so orderly, a perfect, idyllic paradise of a small state with a sparse population.
But as he got closer, Xia Duo could also see magnificent cities deeper within the realm, where halls and high towers stood in great numbers, and Rainbow Bridges connected them to one another, with many living beings moving back and forth upon them—how lively!
Such a scene, for Xia Duo who had been flying in the monotonous wilderness for a long time, was simply like a timely rain in the desert, making one feel joyful!
So he increased his speed again, and in a moment, he arrived at the border of the Kingdom of Radiance.
Of course, this border was merely Xia Duo's perception; in reality, there was no obvious boundary. From the Boundless Wilderness to the Kingdom of Radiance, the weeds became fewer and fewer until they completely turned into a kind of emerald green grass.
From the sky, Xia Duo could see that in the crisscrossing fields below, many of the plots were still this kind of green grass, and some livestock like cattle and sheep were being grazed within them.
It seemed that on the land of the Kingdom of Radiance, apart from crops, fruits, forests, buildings, and roads, everything else was pasture!
This was really quite rare!
……
Xia Duo was anxious to find a way to return to the Main Plane and did not care about these side issues. To show his sincerity, he descended from the sky.
Just as he stepped onto this green pasture ground, he felt a softness and comfort he had never experienced in the wilderness before, as if he were stepping on cotton.
But after he squatted down and checked the grass repeatedly, he did not find anything unusual. The feeling seemed to be acting on his mind rather than his body.
Temporarily suppressing the doubts in his heart, Xia Duo continued to walk forward. Just as he crossed a certain boundary, a point of light suddenly bloomed in the void about a meter in front of him, level with his height.
Seeing such an anomaly, Xia Duo immediately stopped his steps and stared vigilantly ahead. He saw the point of light gradually expand, eventually turning into a bright ball of light only the size of a fist, its glow expanding and contracting as if it were breathing.
"Holy, holy, the Kingdom of Radiance has added new citizens!"
This voice was crisp and pleasant, like the sound produced by some kind of musical instrument, yet it allowed one to clearly understand the meaning within it.
Xia Duo could even tell that this was the Netherese language, though its expression was somewhat different from normal human speech.
Hearing such a unique greeting, Xia Duo relaxed his vigilance slightly. The Kingdom of Radiance was the divine realm promised by the Lord of Radiance; there shouldn't be any lawless elements mixed into it.
And toward this existence suspected to be a Divine Envoy, Xia Duo also showed extra respect. He cleared his throat and said softly, "Hello!"
It seemed that Xia Duo's response triggered something. This small ball of light immediately flew to the top of Xia Duo's head, circling while continuing to say the previous words with its instrument-like tone—
"Holy, holy, the Kingdom of Radiance has added new citizens!"
Xia Duo looked up at this ball of light. This little fellow seemed shy, immediately dodging his gaze and circling to another direction to continue speaking.
Of course, it was still only that one sentence.
Xia Duo tried to ask it questions, but this fellow just wandered around blankly as if it knew nothing, spinning until Xia Duo's eyes were dizzy.
He tried waving his hand to drive it away, but this little fellow was not afraid at all. It flew further away only to fly back again, continuing to circle above Xia Duo's head, saying the same words as before.
"Could this be a Divine Envoy?" Xia Duo could not help but feel some doubt.
But toward such a mischievous little fellow, he was also helpless. He couldn't just stir up trouble the moment he arrived on someone else's turf.
Thus, he could only pretend not to see it and continue walking forward. There were farmlands, orchards, and buildings here, so there must be people who used these facilities, or rather, citizens of the Kingdom of Radiance.
But before Xia Duo had walked a few steps, another point of light appeared in front of him. Having had the experience once, he was much calmer this time, quietly waiting for the point of light to grow larger and turn into a small ball of light similar to the previous one.
"Holy, holy, the Kingdom of Radiance has added new citizens!"
The newly arrived small ball of light also said the same words as the previous one, but the difference was that after it finished speaking, its brightness suddenly surged, and its form expanded a little as well.
After its form contracted, an unknown red fruit appeared beneath the ball of light, swaying as if it were hanging from an invisible thin thread, and it came before Xia Duo.
Was this a gift?
Xia Duo tentatively reached out his hand, and the fruit indeed fell into his hand. After doing this, the small ball of light, like the previous one, flew to the top of Xia Duo's head.
Perhaps because it had given a gift, this little fellow did not circle above Xia Duo's head, but instead landed on Xia Duo's head.
Although it had no weight, it did have a Touch, and it was warm. Xia Duo's expression immediately stiffened—are you being a bit too familiar, little fellow!
……
Where there was one, and two, there were naturally three, four, and more.
Following that, every time Xia Duo walked a certain distance, a small ball of light would appear. Some came "empty-handed," and some brought gifts.
But regardless of which kind they were, they all said the same thing, which was that sentence—
"Holy, holy, the Kingdom of Radiance has added new citizens!"
Fortunately, although these little fellows were mischievous, their voices were surprisingly uniform, merging into one and forming an effect similar to a chord, not appearing chaotic at all.
Otherwise, Xia Duo would have been annoyed to death by the noise.
