Chapter 1177: Taking the Initiative to Withdraw

"Your formation consumes too many spirit stones!" the Seventh Prince joked.

He was actually quite relaxed about the situation. After all, if misfortune strikes, we all share it; nobody can escape.

"Haha, you don't see how many ferocious beasts it's taken down!" Ye Liuyun also knew he was joking.

As a prince, he simply doesn't care about spirit stones.

But no matter how sturdy the formation, it can't withstand repeated assaults by so many ferocious beasts.

Soon, the formation transmitted a noticeable fluctuation. Then with a boom, the outermost layer completely failed.

Without the illusion array's protection, the ferocious beasts outside were clearly visible.

"Roar!"

Seeing this, the Beast King roared again. It could also tell the formation wouldn't hold much longer.

Moreover, it could now see the situation inside clearly, allowing it to better direct the ferocious beasts to attack the formation.

All the ferocious beasts immediately surged forward again toward Stone City.

"Ready the bows! Throw anything you can smash them with!"

Ye Liuyun shouted and began shooting arrows directly.

Everyone also knew the desperate moment had arrived, so they stopped holding back on using thunderbolt bombs.

Anything that could be thrown to smash the ferocious beasts was thrown out.

The warship's weapon barrage never ceased, blasting outward. Without the formation's aid, the warship would soon be overrun by the ferocious beasts—saving a few spirit stones was useless.

When the ferocious beasts drew near, Ye Liuyun then had the Skeleton Puppet sway the Soul Banner, releasing Asura and her Yin Soul army.

Afterwards, Ye Liuyun also tried to summon the Magic Vine.

If the Magic Vine could awaken now, they would be much safer.

But that fellow remained asleep, impossible to wake, so Ye Liuyun had to give up.

Afterwards, he also contacted Wu Qingcheng, Su Miaoyin, Long Nv, and the others, arranging in advance any places where they might need to help.

"Boom, boom..."

Several warships, being large targets, were hit first by the ferocious beasts; their martial cultivators all abandoned ship and fled.

"Oh no!"

Ye Liuyun silently cursed, "Not good."

Because the downed warships happened to crash inside the formation.

Thus, the warships' massive hulls ended up blocking the formation's attacks, becoming a protective shield for the ferocious beasts.

The martial cultivators who escaped from the warships also wore guilty expressions.

But asking them to risk their lives and drive the warships into the beast horde, they lacked the courage.

Ye Liuyun sighed. Blaming them now serves no purpose; since it's come to this, we just see how long the formation can hold.

Now without the first layer of the illusion array as a barrier, the ferocious beasts directly faced the second layer formation, and they began to clash.

Although the ferocious beasts suffered heavy casualties, the formation was also being depleted rapidly.

Soon, the formation underwent violent fluctuations, and the second layer was also collapsed by the ferocious beasts.

The third layer formation, pressed against the city wall, even without Ye Liuyun's Golden Pupil, everyone could clearly see the ferocious beasts' fur and even hear their heavy breathing.

Everyone also knew the moment to abandon the city wall was approaching.

Ye Liuyun sent a message via divine sense to everyone: "The formation won't hold much longer; retreat to the stone houses. I'll lead the puppets to hold out until the formation completely fails."

Everyone immediately followed Ye Liuyun's arrangement and withdrew into the stone houses.

Asura's Yin Soul army had already reaped most of the ferocious beasts, but still couldn't stop their advance; there were simply too many, and they couldn't kill them fast enough.

"Fall back!"

Ye Liuyun ordered the Yin Soul army to retreat inside the city.

His avatar was also recalled by Ye Liuyun into the Space World; he didn't want people to have too much contact with the avatar, lest they see through it.

Now the ferocious beasts are closer to the city wall, the puppets' crossbow bolts actually have a higher hit rate.

The Beast King also noticed their gradual withdrawal, knowing they couldn't hold out much longer, and thus roared to urge the ferocious beasts to launch a final assault.

Soon, the final layer of formation also showed signs of collapse.

Ye Liuyun finally glanced at the city wall they had defended for days, looked at the distant Beast King, then summoned all the puppets to gather in front of the stone houses.

There were too many puppets, while the formation formed by the stone houses and Zhu Youfu's Formation Plate was not large.

So he kept only fifty stone puppets on the outermost edge of the formation formed by the Formation Plate, where they could cooperate with the Formation Plate to attack the external ferocious beasts.

The other stone puppets and metal puppets were useless left outside, so he recalled them all into the Space World.

Asura-led Yin Soul army he temporarily kept inside the city; they could not only continue slaying the ferocious beasts that charged in, but also form a screen preventing the Beast King from seeing inside.

The Yin Soul army formed a circle inside the city, waiting for the ferocious beasts to charge in.

With a bang, a wave of spatial disturbance came, and the final layer of formation outside the city was completely breached.

Outside, many ferocious beasts let out roars, celebrating their victory.

"Roar!"

The Beast King's call drowned out all the ferocious beasts' roars.

It was urging the ferocious beasts not to give Ye Liuyun and company any breathing time, to charge into the city.

The ferocious beasts leapt onto the city wall, then howled as they charged at the Yin Soul army.

Inside the city, roars and howls shook the heavens for a moment.

Even inside the stone houses, Ye Liuyun and company had to shout using true essence to hear each other clearly.

"What should we do now?" Zhuge Feiyu asked Ye Liuyun.

"Rely on the Formation Plate's formation to engage the ferocious beasts in melee. Those willing to fight, go to the edge of the Formation Plate and battle the beasts; those unwilling, just wait here! Once the Formation Plate is breached seven layers, you all retreat, and I'll then use the Illusion Pearl."

Ye Liuyun felt that as long as the Beast King didn't act, they still had a good chance of holding out until the very end.

"Everyone, go out to fight. When your True Essence is exhausted, come back to rest!"

The Crown Prince, hearing this, also knew this was their final battle, so his tone was very firm.

But no one objected; everyone knew they had to do their part now.

Ye Liuyun actually admired the Crown Prince's decisiveness.

However, he still said: "The main defensive force is still the stone golems. You mainly go to gain experience; you don't need to fight desperately."

"If we don't even exert ourselves for our own lives, how can that be acceptable!" Yet the Crown Prince insisted on sending everyone into battle.

The Fourth Prince and the Seventh Prince also agreed with the Crown Prince's view and had prepared for battle.

As for the others, they had even less to say and could only prepare for battle.

As for Zhu Youfu, he had already made his preparations long ago.

"When are we going out?" he asked Ye Liuyun.

"Let's go out now; ferocious beasts have already charged over."

Ye Liuyun was actually quite satisfied with these people's fighting spirit.
