Chapter 1892: Martial Cultivator Leader
Ye Liuyun also discovered that these Martial Cultivators communicate without shouting.
They all mimic bird calls to transmit information to each other.
But Ye Liuyun does not understand what they are conveying.
Ye Liuyun dragged Zhao Ming Cheng to the vicinity of that Martial Cultivator's safe house, ordered Zhao Ming Cheng to stay put, and, holding Zhao Ming Cheng's long spear, crawled low to the ground.
Near the safe house there were no trees for cover, so Ye Liuyun could only approach stealthily in this manner.
Ye Liuyun's Golden Pupil could see the direction the Martial Cultivator was watching.
When the Martial Cultivator wasn't looking this way, he crawled a bit faster.
When the Martial Cultivator glanced over, Ye Liuyun froze on the ground.
When he reached a point where he could go no further, he suddenly rose, rushed toward the safe house, and thrust a spear through the observation hole.
The Martial Cultivator, hearing the noise and looking out through the observation hole, was pierced in the eye by Ye Liuyun's spear, which drove through his head.
The Martial Cultivator let out a startled cry before dying, but it was faint and went unheard by the others.
Then Ye Liuyun immediately moved the stones atop the safe house, collected the Martial Cultivator's pills and Storage Ring, extracted the core pill, and rushed back to retrieve Zhao Ming Cheng, pulling her toward another hidden Martial Cultivator location.
"Move quickly! Otherwise they'll soon use bird calls to transmit information and will discover us."
Ye Liuyun dragged Zhao Ming Cheng and sprinted into the village.
Then, pressing Zhao Ming Cheng's shoulder, he made her crouch while he, holding his long spear, headed toward a broken wall.
"Puff, puff," two sounds came simultaneously.
It was probably Ye Liuyun who had taken out two more people.
Soon, Ye Liuyun ran back, lifted Zhao Ming Cheng, and hid behind the broken wall.
A corpse's neck still bore Zhao Ming Cheng's long spear.
Ye Liuyun pulled the spear out and handed it to Zhao Ming Cheng.
"You stay here.
If I come back for you, I'll certainly give a heads‑up.
As for anyone else, just stab straight through."
Ye Liuyun whispered his instructions to Zhao Ming Cheng.
After Ye Liuyun left, Zhao Ming Cheng felt around the two corpses and found that the Storage Ring and pills had already been taken by Ye Liuyun.
This time, Ye Liuyun also picked up two long swords.
He strapped the sword backs to his back and rushed toward the positions of other Martial Cultivators.
He first targeted some exposed Martial Cultivators, eliminated them, and then went to deal with three other lookouts around the village.
Almost every time he struck, he threw a long sword directly, piercing the opponent's throat.
Or, a single sword would pierce the opponent's head.
Soon, bird calls rang out in the village, and then the calls grew rapid.
Ye Liuyun guessed the Martial Cultivators had noticed something, so he hid outside a house.
Soon, all the living Martial Cultivators rushed out and gathered at the center of their encirclement.
From the house Ye Liuyun was guarding, two Martial Cultivators also burst out; one was thrown by Ye Liuyun's sword and impaled in the throat, the other, more cautious, dodged a strike and shouted.
"Someone's ambushing!"
But as soon as he finished shouting, Yi Dao sliced his head off.
The other Martial Cultivators, hearing the sound, immediately surged forward together.
Ye Liuyun had no time to linger; he took their Storage Rings and pills, grabbed a long spear, and withdrew into the darkness.
While the other Martial Cultivators began inspecting the scene, Ye Liuyun observed them from the shadows.
"Eight remain, and two Physical Bodies are still strong."
He assessed silently.
But the leader of the group was an ordinary‑looking middle‑aged man.
"Light the torches.
You two each take two men and scout around; you come with me to check the lookouts."
The middle‑aged man sent the two strong ones, each with two subordinates, to scout, while he took one person to examine the hidden lookouts.
Ye Liuyun thought that the middle‑aged man must have some unmanageable trick, so he followed a physically strong Martial Cultivator.
While they entered the house, Ye Liuyun threw his long spear, impaling a Martial Cultivator waiting outside.
Then he charged toward the doorway.
The two inside heard the noise, rushed out to investigate; the strong one emerged first with a torch, and Ye Liuyun slipped through, swinging his blade.
In his haste, the Martial Cultivator tried to block with the torch, but Ye Liuyun split it cleanly, and the blade immediately slashed across his throat.
The remaining Martial Cultivator shouted and fled back into the house.
Ye Liuyun did not pursue; he retrieved the Storage Rings and pills from the two corpses and fled out of the village.
At that moment, five other Martial Cultivators chased after.
The middle‑aged man flung his torch toward Ye Liuyun's direction and instantly saw his silhouette.
"Who are you?"
He shouted loudly and, with the others, pursued immediately.
Ye Liuyun gave no reply.
He slowed his pace slightly; when a Martial Cultivator drew near, he turned and threw a long sword, stabbing him down.
"Stop!"
The middle‑aged man immediately shouted for the rest to halt.
He discovered that Ye Liuyun didn't need a torch, escaped without delay, clearly possessing a special skill that let him feel the road in the dark.
If they kept chasing like that, they would easily suffer losses.
So he took the resources on the Martial Cultivator that Ye Liuyun had just stabbed, along with that long sword, and returned with the others to the doorway of the room they had just been in.
Now, they were left with only four people.
The middle‑aged man immediately led the others, switched to a large house, and all hid inside.
They also dared not leave anyone outside, lest they be ambushed.
Ye Liuyun returned to the village and dug out the Primordial Pills that hadn't been extracted earlier.
Then he went to call Zhao Ming Cheng, to look for a chance outside their dwelling.
"They still have four people now, but the middle‑aged leader should have some special ability.
There is also a Martial Cultivator with a very strong Physical Body.
We still cannot strike directly, otherwise we might suffer losses.
At least we should eliminate one or two more before moving in; that would be safe."
Ye Liuyun said to Zhao Ming Cheng.
"Then we'll stay outside and wait; if they dare come out, we'll throw a long spear to stab and kill one."
Zhao Ming Cheng said.
Ye Liuyun's Golden Pupil saw clearly; each of those people held a shield made from a vine rod or a wooden board, guarding the doorway.
Moreover, this large room should be their base, with plenty of fresh water and meat inside.
Even if they hid inside for a month, they wouldn't starve to death.
Ye Liuyun thought for a moment and said, "No rush, let's find a good place to sleep first."
Ye Liuyun also knew they certainly wouldn't dare come out at night, so he found a sturdy house and led Zhao Ming Cheng inside to hide.
Along the way he also collected three long swords, a long spear, and a knife.
He moved all those corpses near their base, hoping to lure the beasts there.
Sure enough, shortly after Ye Liuyun and his group slipped into the house, the surrounding area attracted beasts that smelled the blood, rushing over to investigate.
Afterwards, the beasts kept increasing, and some even began fighting each other over food.
