Chapter 2741: The Thief Cat Strikes

After Ye Liuyun moved in, he finally let the thief cat out.

"Did you remember the location of the merchant guild?

The whole city is full of wealthy families!"

Ye Liuyun said.

"Got it, I'll act again tonight.

I'll try to steal from a few more places!"

The thief cat agreed.

"Alright, be careful, don't be careless! There are three Martial Cultivators of the Sixfold Sovereign in this city, and even more of the Zhuanzai Wuchong!"

Ye Liuyun instructed it.

"Don't worry, it's on me!"

The thief cat started making a guarantee ticket and also inspected the Storage Ring.

Ye Liuyun, so that it could store more, gave it thousands of large‑space Storage Rings, lest it run out.

"Flying Boats, treasures, pills, and Primordial Power are all priorities!"

Ye Liuyun gave it another reminder, then began closed‑eye cultivation until night fell.

Around midnight, the thief cat used Spatial Power and vanished silently.

"The thief cat's strength has indeed improved a lot; even I couldn't detect its movements!"

Ye Liuyun didn't even notice when the thief cat left, and he kept pondering how he could study the way the thief cat cultivates Spatial Power.

But half an hour later, a clamor rose from outside.

Using Divine Sense, Ye Liuyun detected Martial Cultivators bursting out of the merchant guild, scouting everywhere.

Next, the Chengzhu Fu also fell into chaos.

"That thief cat is really greedy.

It must have stolen something from people's Storage Rings; otherwise it wouldn't have been discovered so quickly."

Ye Liuyun knew the thief cat's nature; it never misses a theft, so it must have also targeted the Storage Rings of important figures, which is why the theft was discovered so quickly.

But Ye Liuyun didn't use a Slave Seal to notify it, fearing it would disturb its actions and expose it.

Soon, many major forces in the city—Martial Cultivators—mobilized, and some went to the Chengzhu Fu to report the stolen resources.

At this point, the Chengzhu Fu had ordered soldiers to seal the city and patrol the streets for suspicious persons.

But the city already had few inhabitants, and at night even fewer moved about, so the street crowd was quickly rounded up.

Then the soldiers searched the inn.

Before they inspected Ye Liuyun's room, the thief cat returned and was pulled by Ye Liuyun into the Space World.

Because the inn staff testified for Ye Liuyun that he never left, the soldiers only briefly checked his Storage Ring, found no loot, and continued searching elsewhere.

"How many places did you get?"

Ye Liuyun then began communicating with the thief cat.

"Seven places: the merchant guild, the Chengzhu Fu.

Later a strong individual appeared; I feared being targeted, so I returned early!"

The thief cat replied to Ye Liuyun.

Then it brought out all the stolen resources.

"Wow, you've gathered quite a haul this time!"

Ye Liuyun was somewhat shocked upon seeing those items.

There were over six thousand units of Primordial Power alone, plus various Warships, treasures, pills and other resources.

They've struck it rich this time!

"No wonder things here are so pricey; just seven places yielded so many resources!"

Ye Liuyun couldn't help but sigh.

These are only the resources from their Treasure Vault and Storage Rings; the Space World surely holds even more valuable resources.

"The merchant guild and Chengzhu Fu have the most."

The thief cat replied.

"Not bad, not bad; your contribution is significant, so rest first!"

Ye Liuyun sent the thief cat back to rest, then gave the pills to Lin Luoyi and delivered the treasures and Warships to Tong Xin and Qiong Qi for their study.

At daybreak, Ye Liuyun's Divine Sense detected that the city gates were still closed.

"Looks like we can only wait for now!"

He knew the Chengzhu Fu hadn't captured anyone and wouldn't be satisfied, so he could only cultivate inside his room to while away the time.

But the soldiers returned to the tavern and moved straight to seize Ye Liuyun.

"What are you doing?

Why are you arresting me?"

Ye Liuyun asked, puzzled.

"Did you go to the merchant guild yesterday?"

A soldier leader asked.

"Yes!"

Ye Liuyun replied honestly.

"The merchant guild was robbed; you're a prime suspect, come with us to the Chengzhu Fu for questioning!"

The soldier said nothing more, grabbed Ye Liuyun and pushed him outward.

Ye Liuyun also didn't expect these soldiers to just come and arrest people.

He wanted to act, but his Divine Sense discovered that a Sixfold Sovereign Martial Cultivator was already monitoring the situation outside.

"That's fine! I'll go with you, no need to pull!"

Ye Liuyun directly shook off the soldier's pull and walked out voluntarily.

Seeing him cooperate, the soldier also stopped pulling him.

The Sixfold Sovereign Martial Cultivator had been using Spiritual Sense Lock on Ye Liuyun, and only revealed himself after following him back to Chengzhu Fu.

Inside Chengzhu Fu's courtyard, several Martial Cultivators had their True Essence sealed, beaten beyond human shape, lying motionless on the ground like dead dogs; likely they were the few people arrested on the street last night.

City Lord Hou Ting'an sat in a chair, sipping tea.

After the Sixfold Sovereign Martial Cultivator bowed to him, he stood behind him.

"Are you Ye Liuyun?"

Hou Ting'an asked unhurriedly.

"Yes!"

Ye Liuyun directly replied.

"What brings you to Jing'an City?"

Hou Ting'an continued asking.

"I'm from out of town, came here to learn about the local situation and find a way to survive."

Ye Liuyun replied.

Hou Ting'an nodded, then asked: "What's your relationship with the Changliang Mercenary Group?"

"Just had some dealings!"

Ye Liuyun simply said.

"But I heard the soldiers say that when you entered the city, you claimed to be from the Changliang Mercenary Group?"

Hou Ting'an looked at Ye Liuyun.

Ye Liuyun explained: "Just said it offhand, hoping the soldiers would make things convenient!"

He didn't insist he was a mercenary group member.

Otherwise, if Hou Ting'an sent people to investigate, it would easily expose the lie; better to just come clean himself.

Hou Ting'an nodded upon hearing that.

Actually, he had already sent someone to ask Xue Liang, and learned that Ye Liuyun was not a member of the Changliang Mercenary Group.

Seeing Ye Liuyun speak the truth directly, he continued asking: "You just arrived in our Jing'an City yesterday; last night, goods were stolen from the merchant guild and Chengzhu Fu—does this have anything to do with you?"

I heard you went around the merchant guild.

Do you need me to summon witnesses for a confrontation?

Ye Liuyun calmly said: "There's nothing to confront about."

As an outsider newly arrived, the first places I'd definitely go are the merchant guild and taverns to learn about prices and local information.

It's just that there are too few people here, which is somewhat beyond my expectation.

As for the theft, I have nothing to do with it—I didn't leave the tavern at all that night.

I originally planned to leave this place this morning.

But upon discovering the city was still under lockdown, I didn't rush to leave.

Ye Liuyun's words were watertight, giving Hou Ting'an nothing to grasp.

"Alas!"

Hou Ting'an sighed, rubbed his head, also feeling troubled.

Although Ye Liuyun is suspicious, he doesn't meet the conditions for the crime; logically, they shouldn't have arrested him for interrogation.
