Chapter 3527: Dangerous Mission

Since the auction ended, Gu Feng Cheng has already begun to hear all kinds of rumors.

Some say Ye Liuyun was killed by the demon slayer, some say Ye Liuyun was robbed, and some say Ye Liuyun killed everyone in retaliation, because among those who went with him at the time, only Ouyang He returned.

But after Ouyang He returned, he only said he had fought Ye Liuyun to a draw, and claimed he knew nothing else about what happened.

After Ding Yuantang's death, the Ding family has been sending people around to gather information these days, and also sent people to bribe mercenary leaders like Cheng Huofeng to confirm that Ye Liuyun had indeed returned and that Ding Yuantang was indeed killed by Ye Liuyun. However, that information was all released by Ye Liuyun's instruction through Cheng Huofeng and the others.

Ye Liuyun also didn't want to cause trouble for the Ding family. Ding Yuantang had nearly exhausted the family's resources buying the God-transforming Fruit, and going again wouldn't yield much. So he merely wanted to use Cheng Huofeng and the others to scare the Ding family into behaving.

The Ding family's strength was never great; now that they know the truth, they dare not take revenge, and even fear Ye Liuyun's retaliation, so they quickly gathered some resources to send to Ye Liuyun as a peace offering.

Ye Liuyun had Cheng Huofeng and the other mercenaries accept the resources, and also promised not to trouble the Ding family, which put them at ease. If he didn't take their resources, he worried they would start imagining things.

Other martial cultivators in the city, upon seeing Ye Liuyun out and about, all speculated that he had wiped out everyone else.

They arrived at the mission posting point, where the mercenaries saw Ye Liuyun and his companions unharmed, and some began to inquire.

However, under the control of Ye Liuyun's slave seal, Cheng Huofeng and the other mercenaries kept their mouths tight, only saying they had fought the Ding family and Ouyang He to a draw, and they had no idea where the others had gone.

They even refused to admit that Ding Yuantang's death was their doing, letting those mercenaries speculate wildly on their own. Although many mercenaries didn't believe it, they had no choice.

So in the end, no one knew what actually happened outside the city that day. Some guessed Ye Liuyun did it, some guessed it was Mo Tu robbing others, but it was all just speculation.

Ye Liuyun and his companions focused on examining the missions. They looked down on ordinary ones, but a new mission caught Ye Liuyun's attention.

This mission was issued by the Chengzhu Fu. Its content is to slay a Taixu Seventh Layer flower python on Gu Feng Mountain, and the reward is extremely high—actually thirty Primordial Power.

Moreover, it is an open mission; anyone can go complete it, then claim the reward with the flower python's corpse.

Upon seeing this mission, Ye Liuyun's first reaction was whether the Chengzhu Fu could actually come up with that much reward. At the auction, he hadn't seen that City Lord Gan Lin was so wealthy.

Cheng Huofeng and Chen Qinan saw Ye Liuyun contemplating the mission and immediately spoke up to remind him: "Master, this mission might be the Chengzhu Fu's deliberate trap!"

The ferocious beasts on Gu Feng Mountain are not just one flower python; from the mountain foot to the waist, their cultivation is already at the Sixth Layer, and beyond the waist it gets even higher.

Many mercenary teams have gone there before, yet none could get past the mountain waist. Therefore this mission is obviously a trap set by the Chengzhu Fu to harm people.

After hearing them, Ye Liuyun recalled Gan Lin's sly smile at the auction and suddenly understood.

Still, he asked Cheng Huofeng: "How can the Chengzhu Fu be sure that the flower python we kill is definitely the one on Gu Feng Mountain?"

Chen Qinan also told Ye Liuyun: "The flower python on Gu Feng Mountain has a special flower pattern, making it easy to recognize. Moreover, people often see that kind of flower python; it is said to be the mountain's guardian spirit beast."

However, there is no such flower python at the mountain waist; only the summit has it. Before, someone had seen it from afar at the waist, but at that time that flower python was already Seventh Layer, with a huge body.

Pythons are gregarious animals; even if we find and kill a low-level one, we might suffer retaliation from a higher-level python.

After hearing him finish, Ye Liuyun became even more certain that this was a deliberate trap set by City Lord Gan Lin.

"What if we complete the mission but the city lord can't produce the resources?" Ye Liuyun immediately asked them both.

"The mission is open; if the city lord can't come up with the reward when the time comes, we can kill him ourselves to take compensation, replace his position, and afterward we won't be wanted. However, the chance of completing this mission is not great!"

"Yes, master, this is obviously a trap! Feeding us all to that flower python might not even be enough to fill its belly."

They both felt it was too dangerous; even if Ye Liuyun had those Sixth and Seventh Layer experts in his hands, they could not match those pythons.

Ye Liuyun thought for a moment, then smiled and said to them: "No problem, we'll take this mission. I've never been to Gu Feng Mountain, so I'll use this chance to have a look; if it's too dangerous, we'll just retreat right away!"

Cheng Huofeng and Chen Qinan were also utterly helpless, only hoping Ye Liuyun wouldn't let them become cannon fodder when the time came.

Ye Liuyun chose this mission partly because he considered taking the opportunity to eliminate the city lord, so he wouldn't have to worry about the latter scheming against him later.

On the other hand, he also considered that Gu Feng Mountain rarely sees anyone ascend above the mountain waist, so there might be good things up there; given the abundance of ferocious beasts, it indicates rich resources.

Although he doesn't know what's on the mountain now, places with ferocious beasts surely have cultivation resources—a fact that Lei Ming and other monster beasts understand. Otherwise, the beasts wouldn't be stupid to stay there.

He led these people out directly without returning to their lodgings. The nearby mercenary teams stared in disbelief; in their view, this mission was obviously meant to send them to their deaths.

"Did they really go?"

"Who cares? Maybe they really have that strength! Just wait and see the result!"

"If they truly complete the mission, but the city lord can't produce the reward..."

"Then it's not something we can consider, and they also need to be able to come back alive! Gu Feng Mountain even has Ninth Layer ferocious beasts!"

After they left, the mercenaries discussed it together for a long time, not dispersing. The news quickly spread, causing another uproar throughout the city.

After receiving the news, City Lord Gan Lin gave a series of cold snorts: "Want to oppose me? You'll see! Even if you don't all die, only a few will come back, hmph..."

After Gan Lin finished his cold snort, he took out a Transmission Talisman and asked someone to contact the Great Leader of Pingyang Guan, Du Hansong.

Du Pinghai, captured by Ye Liuyun, had contacted Gan Lin after arriving at Gu Feng Cheng; when the auction ended, Gan Lin also saw Du Pinghai leaving with Ye Liuyun.

Now that the person hasn't returned, it's almost certainly something happened—either killed by Ye Liuyun or captured by Ye Liuyun—so he immediately went to Du Hansong to claim credit and report the news, and also could let Du Hansong deal with Ye Liuyun.
