Chapter 128: Madness

~7 min read 1,234 words

In an instant, Chumen's eyes followed a certain illusory connection and saw a Statue.

It was a massive Statue, fully ten meters tall, constructed from piles of white bone, yet it did not appear pale or deathly, for the Statue itself was an incomparable work of art.

Vaguely, one could discern it was a stunningly beautiful young woman, perfectly displaying the beauty of every stage of womanhood; looking at her even gave one the feeling of facing the "Beauty Goddess"—of course, this was not the incarnation of beauty, but Charm.

And if a Beyonder with sufficiently high spirituality were to come here, what they would see is a true scene of the end of the world: blizzards, floods, Tsunamis, earthquakes—numerous natural Disasters were all within Her grasp.

There was even a sense of collapse, as if all things were perishing and the Doomsday was at hand.

"Doomsday" Witch!

Chumen's will condensed into a ray of light, an avatar at roughly the level of Sequence 1, descending upon this headquarters of the Witch Sect.

"You really did come." The ten-meter-tall Statue came to life in an instant; some kind of power descended and transformed the entire Statue into an avatar, shrinking it to a size similar to a normal person, and it stood on the altar about ten meters in front of Chumen.

The Statue had completely become a real person; She wore a simple black robe that outlined breathtaking curves, Her long black hair was simply tied up, lazy and soft, and Her eyes carried a bright luster.

This was the specialty of the Witch Pathway; this pathway even had the ability to maintain eternal youth at Sequence 3, was extremely adept at resurrection and rebirth, and could even use various substitutes as early as the Sequence 7 stage.

"……Cheek? I don't seem to recognize you." Chumen blinked, and for some reason, he felt things were not looking good.

It must be…… the look in her eyes!

Chumen's brow twitched, keenly sensing that the way Cheek was looking at him was extremely strange.

Deep within it lay a certain longing and fanaticism, somewhat similar to that Despair Witch from just a moment ago, but even more……

"You don't remember me?" The expression on Cheek's avatar changed slightly, shifting from joy to sadness, and then she took a few steps closer, actually on the verge of tears.

"……" Chumen subconsciously took two steps back.

It had to be said that if judged truly by human vision, the Cheek before him was impossibly beautiful, very different from Lilith, and radiated an unimaginable sense of Charm.

Just in that instant, he had uncontrollably felt an urge to comfort the girl opposite him.

This was probably the fault of the Authority of Reality; she had become too much like a person.

With a blink of his eyes, Chumen brought forth a bit of Dream Phosphor, and the avatar had already become his true body.

True gods are all emotionless.

"That's right, you naturally wouldn't remember me." Cheek spoke to herself, as if she could not perceive Chumen's change.

"Back then, you saved me……"

"I saved you?" Chumen frowned, instantly flipping through his memories; the targets numbered in the thousands or nearly ten thousand, all of them people he had personally saved and given new hope to.

Some were saved while preaching, some were saved during wars, and there were even many instances where he had saved an entire city.

I am just too kind-hearted…… Chumen silently complained to himself.

"Back then, the natural disaster was approaching, and the Dream descended from the sky." Cheek fell into fond memories.

"Natural disaster, Gaoxinamu?" Chumen locked onto a memory from a certain period and manifested it before him.

Reality and illusion intertwined, and even the entire Witch Sect headquarters turned into the seaside of that day.

"Are you him?" Chumen pointed at the boy crawling out from the rocks.

"You really do remember me!" Cheek's eyes lit up.

No, I don't remember…… The gap between the two was even further than that between the "Fate" civilization and Earth.

"You chose the Witch Pathway when you became a Beyonder?" Chumen guessed the start of the event almost instantly; the opportunity to become a Beyonder seemed to have been given to Her by himself.

"Yes," Cheek nodded gently, with a hint of regret, but she quickly dispelled this emotion, "but it doesn't matter, it's not your fault; I killed the priest and avenged myself."

She seemed to have found a way to vent, pouring out many secrets.

Chumen's brow furrowed slightly, his tone turning cold, "This is the reason you can never receive the favor of the Dream."

"And it is also the reason why this Witch Sect of yours can never be illuminated by the Dream Phosphor."

Cheek's expression changed, with madness faintly revealing itself in her eyes; she was not a little girl, but a Sequence 1 Great Angel, the true "Doomsday Witch"!

She looked at Chumen seriously once more, and this time, Chumen finally sensed the meaning hidden in her eyes.

It was a look Chumen was very familiar with; he had seen it in several people who deeply understood his Dream nature, including those friends with whom he already had a thousand-year friendship.

Before establishing sufficient connection, they would all reveal such a look.

The most recent one among them was "God".

It was a kind of "possession," or to put it more bluntly, "eating"—it was "appetite"!

"Ah!" Cheek let out a sharp scream, the shriek carrying a sense of extreme pain.

Layers of Space overlapped before Chumen, blocking those violent forces.

This really wasn't Chumen's doing……

He hadn't even had time to discipline this "Doomsday Witch" yet, and she had exploded on her own, leaving Chumen's mood interrupted.

The Statue that Cheek had possessed exploded violently, and then was pulled by some invisible threads to re-condense.

It was still the same Cheek as before, but there were some differences.

Her gaze was more unbridled, and as it fell upon Chumen, it was already naked and undisguised.

It was roughly the expression of someone who had been hungry for three days seeing food.

But at the same time, a struggle that truly existed appeared on Cheek's face, making Chumen's expression very strange.

"I really…… don't want to be like this, but having reached this point…… I can no longer suppress the madness……"

Whoosh!

The hair behind the Witch instantly spread out, becoming thick, dancing wildly like venomous snakes; Cheek's eyes turned completely pitch black, and there were even mysterious patterns spreading across her face.

The look of struggle on her face grew fainter and fainter, gradually being submerged by madness.

"You are mine! The Dream can only be the light of the Doomsday!"

Cheek's voice turned into a sound wave that overturned the entire Witch Sect; some Witches lingering near the sect almost instantly lost control, becoming mass after mass of snake-like creatures with eyeballs.

But in the next instant, these creatures turned back into one Witch after another, all of them above average in appearance.

These Witches were advancing toward Chumen, wanting to touch the Dream they had longed for for endless time.

"Another one gone mad." Chumen watched all of this indifferently, his gaze landing on Cheek.

Her madness was only from his perspective; to him, anyone unable to suppress their craving for "Dream" was a madman.
