Chapter 138: Breakout (Part 2)
Dark Night Elves felt strange fighting alongside their own kind and foreign peoples, Bu Lanni explained to everyone: "The situation is urgent; they are not our enemies. To break out, we must gather all our strength."
At that moment on the battlefield below, the Dark Night Elf army failed to break through and was instead split and surrounded; due to the vast disparity in forces, Dark Night Elves kept falling in pools of blood, leaving only three or four hundred struggling to hold on, already becoming prey in a bowl.
The Dark Night Elves on the summit naturally wanted to charge down to rescue them, but they still didn't know if they could break through the goblin encirclement below; at this time they had also sent troops upward, preparing to support the goblins above.
Bu Lanni immediately ordered people to charge down, helping Li Bucai and others first wipe out the goblins above.
"Wait." Rui Tong stopped her, pointing in the opposite direction: "The Sovereign hopes we can go down from here; those few goblins cannot match our Sovereign. After going down, they will join us."
"Alright, first go down to block their reinforcements." Bu Lanni said, then ordered people to take out vines, tie them to the tree roots at the cliff edge, and descend layer by layer. When they reached the mid-slope of He Rui Peak, the goblins on the mountain, under the assault of Li Bucai and others, had already fled here; they cut off the retreat at this spot, unleashed a volley of arrows, and instantly shot down over a hundred goblins.
After the goblins retreated here, hardly any remained; under attack from both sides, it didn't take long before this goblin group was completely wiped out.
The forces from both sides joined together, swinging down from the cliff top; when they reached the second lower level, where many goblins stood guard, Li Bucai, the Young Marshal, and others swung down first, carving out a space and protecting the ropes. After everyone had descended, the Dark Night Elves fired arrows from behind, driving the goblins on both sides farther away. They then seized the opportunity to send people to release the ropes, with the Young Marshal leading five people to swing down first, opening a space, the rest following. Li Bucai and others kept holding off the goblins until the last person descended, leaving only Li Bucai alone. At this point the goblins had all converged, the space shrinking; if they tried to descend using the rope, having swung out just a short distance would see the rope cut by the goblins. The two sections of mountain path are separated by a height of sixty or seventy meters, and with their current lightness skill they could only guarantee a safe drop of twenty meters without mishap.
Li Bucai, while swinging his scepter to repel the enemy soldiers, suddenly a "Wind-Stab" thrust carved out a space from within the goblin crowd, landing exactly on the vines of the upper level. After using the "Azure Dragon Tail Sweep" to repel the attacking goblins, he grabbed the vine and instead climbed upward.
Seeing that he did not go down but went up, the goblins split, with some staying here and others trying to go around to the top.
But the mountain road was long; when Li Bucai climbed to that upper switchback, there was no sign of goblins yet. He calmly looped the vines. At that moment, the troop that had gone up to support the goblin attack on the gate tower above, having used the vines to swing down when they ascended, were now just returning; upon seeing Li Bucai, they charged at him.
At this time, the people who had descended to the lowest switchback had already set up the vines, and were fending off the goblin assault while anxiously waiting for him to come down.
Li Bucai stood at the cliff edge, gesturing for everyone to swing down; they then each swung down. After passing this level, there were no more goblin guards, and they could smoothly break out of the encirclement.
After all the soldiers had descended, Bu Lanni said to the Young Marshal: "You have helped my people escape safely; now it is my turn to cover for you. You may go."
Compared to the Young Marshal, who possesses Yellow-grade aptitude, the goblins' attack power is so weak that killing them is like cutting grass. The Young Marshal was enjoying the slaughter, saying: "If you help someone, you must see it through; can your means protect this place?"
Bu Lanni's reach is at most slightly stronger than that of four blue-clad guards, but having received kindness, she does not wish to owe too many favors; without hesitation, she rushed into the goblin horde.
"What are you waiting for? Retreat quickly!" Li Bucai shouted. At that moment, the goblin reinforcements on that road were only twenty-odd meters away; if they charged over, escaping would become difficult.
The Young Marshal, helpless, could only leave her behind, leading several guards to swing down on the vines together until the last person reached a safe height. Li Bucai then leapt up, jumped onto the glowing tree at the cliff edge, tied the vines to the flower basin, slipped the looped vines over his body, grabbed the other end, and lunged forward; when his forward momentum faded, he began to fall downward.
When the goblins rushed over, being too high they could not reach him immediately; by the time a goblin climbed up, Li Bucai had already landed on the lower switchback. At that moment, the goblin had just crawled to within one meter of the flower basin. As Li Bucai fell, he took the prepared rope from his waist, wound it a few times around a protrusion on the vine, used the cliff wall for leverage, and continued downward. When he reached Bu Lanni, his toe just touched the glowing tree beside the path, and the vine had already been cut by the goblins.
Li Bucai jumped from a height of over a hundred meters; although the vine slowed his descent, when he stepped onto the flower basin the downward force had not yet been fully dissipated. Fortunately, that tree was extremely tough, and since Li Bucai fell at an angle, the entire glowing tree bent like a bow under his step, absorbing the falling force.
Beneath the tree, Bu Lanni was surrounded by a thick mass of goblins, having suffered several spear wounds. She gritted her teeth and retreated step by step toward the glowing tree behind her, but the trunk blocked her retreat. Dozens of spears thrust at her simultaneously; her weapon was only a ****, an inch short, an inch perilous, unable to parry so many spears. Just as a divine spear was about to pierce her, she felt her body lighten, a rope coiled around her waist, and Li Bucai jerked her upward, dodging the spears aimed at her.
At that moment, the glowing tree's bend had reached its limit and began to rebound upward, hurling Bu Lanni, whom Li Bucai was pulling by the hand, like a catapult toward the upper slope of He Rui Peak. Seeing the two escape, goblins both above and below hurled their spears, a dark cloud of missiles descending on them. Li Bucai hurriedly blocked with his scepter while pulling Bu Lanni close, trying to shield her with the scepter, but the spear rain was too dense. Bu Lanni's leap into the air, having been yanked, left her unprepared and unable to control her body; by the time she was pulled behind him, she had already been struck by several spears. Li Bucai embraced her with his backhand, and they both fell into a stream over a hundred meters from the mountain base. Fortunately, the stream pooled here due to the low terrain, forming a large deep pool, allowing Li Bucai to land safely.
As he held Bu Lanni and broke the water's surface, he saw the pool water turned completely red, with a total of eight spears embedded in her body.
Li Bucai was greatly alarmed, climbed ashore, and hastily summoned the Young Marshal's medic, Sheng Yao, to treat her. After examining the wounds, Sheng Yao softly sighed and shook her head at Li Bucai.
