Chapter 535: Backstab
After the intense battle, the onlookers had already been driven far away; only one person and one dragon remained in the center of the battlefield.
Luoning had already taken advantage of the shockwave sweeping across the area to pull out all four Black Nails from Kaierluosi's body, and he was currently using a high-potency healing scroll to alleviate the other's injuries.
Although Kaierluosi had several large holes in his body, the dragon's superior constitution and recovery ability meant he would be fully healed before long.
"Luoning, did he... did he kill His Highness the Crown Prince?"
A young noble asked with a trembling voice, his eyes filled with terror.
With such a violent attack, it was impossible to survive, right?
In that case, the Auduin Kingdom truly had no heir to the throne!
Luoning's Mental Power swept over the ruins, sensing that Jialete was not dead beneath them; his heartbeat was very strong, and he even had the strength to push aside the debris, likely waiting for an opportunity to launch a sneak attack.
In reality, he had shifted his attack slightly at the final moment, which was the only reason he had spared the other's life.
It was not that Luoning was merciful, or that he did not want to or dared not kill Jialete.
It was simply not the right time yet.
After all, his accusations against Jialete were one-sided; although they were more logical, he lacked direct evidence.
He turned his gaze toward the beautiful woman who had been watching from the sidelines.
"What is it? How much longer does the Storm Envoy intend to remain a spectator?"
The corners of Selandier's mouth curled up slightly; she floated to the front from the crowd while gently clapping her hands, appearing not the least bit flustered.
"I never expected that such a young Legendary-level would appear on this continent where Elemental Power is thin and chaotic. It is truly astonishing!"
These words of praise, tinged with disdain, fell upon the ears of those around like a thunderclap.
"Legendary?"
"My god, Legendary? A Legendary above the Radiant Sun?"
A fierce discussion erupted among the crowd.
It seemed that ever since Aoerlante the Great passed away, not a single Legendary figure had appeared on this continent.
Luoning had actually become a Legendary?
Feilunsi, Andeliya, Mailun, and the others saw their expressions dim.
They had intended to kill Luoning before he reached a height they could not match, but they had not expected that he had already reached that height.
They had killed Bruno, which had also released the shackles on Luoning. If the latter now wanted to turn and deal with them, how were they to resist?
A faint sense of regret welled up in their hearts.
If they could do it all over again, perhaps they would not have killed Bruno.
After all, rather than living in constant fear day and night, it would have been better to maintain a facade of harmony.
But there was no regret medicine for sale in this world.
Luoning ignored the other's praise.
"On the way to Jinyu City, I was thinking that with Jialete's cunning, he couldn't have come up with such a series of schemes. If my guess is correct, from having Buleite assassinate His Majesty the King, to using the disturbances in Mist City to lure me away from Wubei Territory, and even the subsequent slander against me—all of this was directed by you, wasn't it?"
Selandier glanced at the ruins, then at Feilunsi and the others in the crowd, and finally turned her gaze toward Luoning.
She chuckled, "Correct, all of this was my scheme!"
As soon as these words were spoken, Feilunsi, Andeliya, and the others widened their eyes in shock.
Was Selandier not openly admitting that the person who killed Bruno was Jialete?
One had to know that doing something was one thing, but having others know it was done was another.
"No, no, no!"
Fear flashed across Duke Feilunsi's face; he had not expected such a situation.
According to the previous plan, this matter was not supposed to be spoken of.
Luoning was also somewhat surprised; he had originally only wanted to see if he could bait out some information, but he had not expected the other to actually admit it.
He pondered slightly: what was Selandier's purpose in doing this?
In truth, for the Holy Storm Organization, their arrival on the Aoerlante Continent was not to bring rule, and certainly not to bring peace.
To the Demon God, stability was something that had no need to exist.
Therefore, their greatest goal had always been to manufacture war, using the entire society as a nursery in the background of chaos to cultivate more Storm Envoys and Flame Seal Knights.
They borrowed their power to restore the strength of the Demon God who had been severely wounded a thousand years ago.
For Selandier, Jialete's dignity, the face of the nobles, and so on, were all things she did not need to consider.
Facing the current Luoning, Jialete's utility was limited; it was better to tie them all to her chariot, giving them no chance for reconciliation or easing of relations.
Furthermore, as a Great Archmage, she was at a disadvantage against a Legendary-level; if this group of nobles reconciled, would she not become a common enemy?
Boom!
The broken walls and ruins were blasted open by a beam of purple lightning, and Jialete jumped out from the rubble.
He first glared fiercely at Selandier, but quickly shifted his hateful gaze onto Luoning.
To him, patricide was no longer a matter of concern.
His dignity and psyche had been ground into nothingness by the fist-after-fist pummeling he had just received from Luoning.
For the current Jialete, he craved greater power, and he craved even more to kill this person before him who remained so calm and composed.
"Selandier, stop with the nonsense; bring out whatever means you have. If I die, you won't necessarily be able to escape either!"
Jialete said coldly: "Feilunsi, Andeliya, Mailun, Laoshaien, and all you nobles, obey my command and launch a siege on Luoning!"
"Whoever dares to retreat is a traitor to the Auduin Kingdom; after this matter is over, I will settle the score with each and every family!"
After these words were spoken, those silent nobles were no longer at ease.
They looked at Jialete, then at Luoning; neither side was someone they could afford to offend.
Yet the Crown Prince was forcing them to choose one of the two.
Luoning swept his gaze over the crowd, "Everyone has heard it too; King Bruno was killed by their hands. As the Conqueror Duke personally enfeoffed by His Majesty, and as a Guardian Knight of the Auduin Kingdom, I have the responsibility and duty to avenge His Majesty!"
He paused for a moment, "Now, please, those who are uninvolved, leave this place. I guarantee in the name of the Wushan Family that if Jialete ever causes trouble for your families because of this matter in the future, I, the Conqueror Duke, will provide protection for you and your descendants forever!"
After a brief silence, someone finally stepped forward.
Luoning remembered that this should be Baron Dani of the Ente Territory above Moonlight Valley.
"Duke Luoning, please avenge His Majesty! If there are any supplies needed, the Ente Territory will support you with all its might!"
Jialete's eagle-like, sharp gaze turned abruptly toward Dani, "You're courting death!"
Crack!
A sharp bolt of lightning struck out; Dani felt his whole body turn cold, knowing that if he were hit, he would surely die without a burial place.
But at this very moment, a figure as steady and reliable as a mountain appeared before him, and with just a raise of his palm, he caught the bolt of lightning.
"Th... thank you!"
Luoning glanced at him, "Go, leave Golden Feather Palace, and tell the truth about this place to the world!"
"Alright!"
Dani dared not linger any longer and ran toward the outside of the palace.
With him as an example, soon there was a second, then a third.
Jialete, Feilunsi, and the others wanted to strike to stop them, but they were all intercepted by Luoning.
In the distance, Deputy Commander Buluoer of the Royal Griffin Knights finally broke free from his confinement; watching Luoning face the encirclement of Selandier and dozens of others all by himself, he could not help but feel a sense of reverence rise in his heart.
"I... need to do something for you, and for His Majesty the King!" (End of chapter)
