Chapter 500
The other party showed a look of deep confusion.
Then he let out a bitter laugh: "It's been so many years already; even if you've regained your power, you couldn't possibly remember."
"Actually, I've recovered most of my memories, but I have no impression of you at all."
"I don't know what exactly went wrong. I'm sorry."
Lu Cang observed that this man still seemed familiar with him.
Seeing Lu Cang say this, the other party appeared slightly panicked.
"No no no! Master is far too polite—just that you've returned is enough!"
"While you were gone, I remained in slumber; only just now did I sense your power awakening, so I came at once—hopefully I'm not too late."
"You haven't answered yet—who are you? Since you say I'm your master, you must know something about me. Could you tell me?"
Lu Cang had no recollection of such a subordinate; he was no one's master.
Thus he wondered whether this man was lying, or whether he himself had truly forgotten something.
This man bore no hostility toward him, and Lu Cang himself recognized his power as deeply familiar.
So although Lu Cang asked this, he still trusted him inwardly.
"Of course." The other party spoke as he rose to his feet.
Then he told Lu Cang a story.
It was one from before Lu Cang fell into slumber, when he had once visited a planet.
That planet was already a ruin when Lu Cang arrived.
It wasn't hard to imagine a great battle had once occurred there; he originally thought nothing remained and prepared to leave.
But just as he was about to depart, he heard a child's crying, so he went to take a look.
There, beneath a charred tree, he found a child.
Everything around had been destroyed; only the child survived.
At that moment, Lu Cang was deeply astonished, for under such conditions, no child could possibly have survived.
Even if he had somehow lived through it, he would long since have suffocated from the thick smoke.
Therefore, the child's survival must have had a reason, so he went over to examine him.
He discovered that the tree was no ordinary tree.
It seemed connected to the child.
When the entire planet was destroyed, the tree shielded the child.
Precisely because of this, its power gradually dissipated and became a withered log.
Only then did Lu Cang realize the tree had originally been indestructible—it had sacrificed itself to protect the child.
At this point, the child had absorbed the tree's full power and could not easily die.
So he took the child along, casually.
Otherwise, when the child awoke, he would have no way to survive in this world.
To be left behind proved it was fate's will—he simply lent a hand.
From that day on, a child followed Lu Cang everywhere.
It wasn't until the child developed his own consciousness that he learned Lu Cang had saved him.
Originally, he wished to recognize Lu Cang as his father, but because Lu Cang's status was too high, he felt it inappropriate, and ultimately chose to recognize him as master.
Lu Cang was initially uncomfortable, but later he let it be.
"That's roughly the situation. I don't know if you still remember, but everything I've said is true—I hope you can believe me."
"I would never betray my master; before you fell into slumber, I intended to slumber with you."
"But you told me it was your own matter, and asked me not to interfere."
"So I could only find a place to wait for your return."
Lu Cang listened to the other party's story, but had no recollection whatsoever; he now wasn't certain whether the man spoke truth or falsehood.
Yet, because his own instincts told him the man's power was familiar, he likely had truly known him before.
It seemed his recovered memories were only partial; much remained still asleep.
To restore those memories, he would likely have to wait until his power increased.
Lu Cang now considered whether to elevate his domain to End.
Upon reaching End, he would no longer gain further advancement, but would slowly recover his original power.
This process might be extremely long—he had long prepared himself mentally.
"Master, are you troubled? 4.3" The other party noticed Lu Cang seemed troubled, and asked.
Lu Cang shook his head.
"It's not a big matter—just some inner conflict of mine. You needn't worry specially."
"If Master wishes to do something, just do it directly; Master never used to hesitate."
"And I can probably guess—you're troubled over whether to enhance your power, aren't you?"
"Actually, I think it's better to enhance it, because Master's current strength is already immense; should you face new enemies, you may struggle to respond."
"For while you grow stronger, your enemies grow stronger too; to avoid this, you must become even stronger."
Listening to the other party's words, Lu Cang nodded slightly; he had indeed heard these words somewhere before.
