Chapter 14: Maoshan Techniques—Corpse Control Technique

~8 min read 1,534 words

Underground garage.

Chen Yusheng felt a chill in his heart, always feeling that some bad luck was about to come knocking.

He was currently huddled in a corner of the garage, surrounded by a group of Sangshi; this feeling of having to passively wait for others to attack was truly stifling.

"No, I must take the initiative into my own hands."

Relying on several hundred uncontrolled ordinary Sangshi for protection was ultimately unreliable.

These Zombie Groups could protect him now, but if any mishap occurred, they could turn and bite him at any moment.

He had to make these Sangshi listen to him completely.

With a shift in his thoughts, Chen Yusheng immediately thought of a Technique from Maoshan—the Corpse Control Technique.

"Suppress Soul!"

Without the slightest hesitation, he raised his hand and flung a Soul-Suppressing Talisman at a dozen ordinary Sangshi on the edge of the Zombie Group.

The next second, the dozen Sangshi fell straight to the ground, motionless.

Once this scene unfolded, the other surrounding Sangshi immediately hissed crazily at him, their sounds incomparably agitated.

Chen Yusheng didn't even pay them any mind, lifting his feet to walk toward the fallen Sangshi.

The remaining Sangshi, intimidated by the aura of the Warding Off Evil Talisman, retreated one after another.

Soon, he arrived in front of the dozen fallen Sangshi.

Without a word, Chen Yusheng bit his fingertip again, blood seeping out, and quickly traced a Talisman rune onto the forehead of a Sangshi.

Corpse Control Technique.

It was precisely one of the Maoshan Techniques.

This Technique was somewhat weaker than the Corpse Refining Technique; it could only simply control corpses and had a time limit.

The Corpse Refining Technique, however, allowed one to issue orders at will, and the refined corpse would obey forever.

The Corpse Control Technique and the Xiangxi Corpse Driving Technique were similar in principle, yet the former was a notch stronger.

Xiangxi Corpse Driving involved sticking a Talisman on the zombie's forehead; once the Talisman fell off, the zombie would lose control.

The Maoshan Corpse Control Technique, however, involved drawing the Talisman rune directly onto the zombie's body, so it would not easily fall off.

However, regardless of whether it was stuck on or drawn, there was a time limit, because once the energy within the Talisman was exhausted, the zombie would break free from control.

Chen Yusheng had never seen a Sangshi in his original world, nor was he certain if the Corpse Control Technique would work on these things.

But since the Corpse Refining Technique could take effect, there was no reason the Corpse Control Technique wouldn't.

His fingertips moved swiftly, drawing Talisman runes one after another on the Sangshi's forehead and face.

More than thirty seconds later, Chen Yusheng raised his hand to form a seal, chanting a spell in a low voice.

The next moment, the Talisman runes he had drawn on the Sangshi's faces suddenly lit up with a layer of golden light.

The golden light vanished in an instant, and the runes completely sank into the skin and flesh, disappearing from sight.

"Rise!"

Chen Yusheng gave a low shout.

The Sangshi on which he had placed the runes scrambled up with a "whoosh" and stood respectfully by his side.

"It really works!"

Chen Yusheng felt a surge of joy in his heart.

Without pausing, he immediately turned to the second Sangshi.

From then on, Chen Yusheng did not stop for a moment, taking down one on average every forty seconds.

Fifteen minutes later, the number of Sangshi he controlled had reached twenty-five.

After controlling a batch, he immediately sat cross-legged to hurry and restore his True Qi.

Once his True Qi returned, he continued to use the Soul-Suppressing Talisman to knock down Sangshi, then forcibly subdued them with the Corpse Control Technique.

In the underground garage, as he struck again and again, one Sangshi after another became his puppets.

Over an hour later, the number of controllable ordinary Sangshi in Chen Yusheng's hands had reached one hundred.

The Corpse Control Technique actually worked best when used in conjunction with the Soul Capturing Bell.

But since he didn't have the Soul Capturing Bell now, he could only forcibly command them by mixing his own voice with faint Spiritual Power.

"Obey!"

Chen Yusheng let out a cold shout toward the entire Zombie Group.

The next moment, the hundred-plus controlled Sangshi gathered around in unison, instantly shielding him in the very center.

"Not bad, now it's secure."

With over a hundred Sangshi as a barrier, the heart Chen Yusheng had been holding in his throat finally settled for the most part.

He did not continue to control any more; a hundred ordinary Sangshi were already his current limit.

Just subduing this batch had consumed nearly one-third of the blood in his body; if he lost any more, he feared he wouldn't even be able to save his own life.

More importantly, controlling corpses was extremely draining on Spiritual Power, and controlling a hundred Sangshi simultaneously had already made his head feel somewhat heavy.

After resting for a moment, Chen Yusheng checked the first few Sangshi he had controlled.

The energy of the runes was not being consumed very quickly; a rough estimate suggested he could steadily control them for over a dozen hours.

A dozen hours was enough to deal with the vast majority of dangers.

Just as Chen Yusheng was silently making his plans in the garage.

Outside, a convoy was slowly driving along the street he had traveled earlier.

Most of the Sangshi on the street had been lured away by Chen Yusheng, so the convoy encountered almost no obstacles along the way.

Occasionally, when they bumped into a dozen Sangshi, they would be attracted by the two Armored Vehicles in the front and then shot dead one by one by the heavy crossbows inside the vehicles.

After being delayed along the way, nearly an hour later, the convoy finally arrived at the location where the young man and the others were.

"Boss, we have arrived."

The person driving the Armored Vehicle spoke respectfully to the leading youth.

"That Chen Hai has taken a large Zombie Group and hidden in the underground garage; you all take the Armored Vehicle inside and scout out the situation within," the youth ordered in a deep voice.

"Understood, Boss."

"Maintain contact after entering, and report any movement inside at any time."

"Yes!"

Under the gaze of the crowd, two Armored Vehicles roared and charged straight into the entrance of the shopping mall's underground garage.

"Drones, keep a close watch on the perimeter of the mall; don't let the target escape," the youth ordered his subordinate who was operating the drones.

"Yes!"

Inside the garage.

Chen Yusheng huddled in a corner, with one hundred controlled Sangshi forming an inner circle, while the remaining uncontrolled Sangshi guarded the outer perimeter.

Having stayed in the darkness for over an hour, his eyes had long since adapted to the dark.

Circulating True Qi through the Meridians around his eyes, he could see the scenery in the darkness clearly.

Hum—

A low engine sound suddenly cut through the silence.

Chen Yusheng pricked up his ears and immediately channeled True Qi to them.

"A vehicle has come in."

"Have they finally tracked me down!"

Not only was he not afraid, but a hint of excitement appeared on his face instead.

The underground garage space was narrow, and he had several hundred Sangshi by his side; even if the opponents were Ability Users, he had the strength to fight.

The engine sound grew closer, and the lights grew brighter.

In less than a minute, two blinding beams of light shot straight toward him.

However, the moment he saw the incoming vehicles clearly, the smile on Chen Yusheng's face instantly froze.

"Not right..."

"Damn it, it's an Armored Vehicle!"

Chen Yusheng did not hesitate and immediately turned to run.

The very moment Chen Yusheng fled, the people inside the Armored Vehicle showed excited expressions on their faces.

"Boss, we found it, we found the Zombie Group; that Chen Hai is inside, we see his thermal signature," the person inside the Armored Vehicle reported to the outside.

Roar, roar, roar!

Just as the Armored Vehicle arrived nearby, a large Zombie Group also discovered the Armored Vehicle.

Immediately, a large Zombie Group rushed toward the direction of the Armored Vehicle.

"Boss, a large Zombie Group is coming toward us, and the target seems to be running; what should we do now?" the person inside the Armored Vehicle reported to the youth outside.

"Attack the Sangshi directly, but be careful not to harm the target; we need to capture Chen Hai alive, he cannot die," the youth hurriedly issued the order.

Just as the youth gave the order, a large Zombie Group had already pounced; they clawed, scratched, pounded, and struck at the Armored Vehicle, but they could not damage the Armored Vehicle in the slightest.

The defense of the Armored Vehicle was too high; ordinary Sangshi simply could not break through its defenses.

Rat-tat-tat!

Just after the youth issued the order, the next moment, the sound of dense machine-gun fire rang out inside the underground garage.
