Chapter 11: The Main Battlefield of Manhattan and the Secondary Battlefield of Queens
Hawk finally suppressed the burning heat in his heart and chose not to go join the fun at the main battlefield in Manhattan.
The Leviathan beast belonging to the Chitauri biological war fortress, which roared as it drilled out from the space portal, had an incredibly massive body, and its entire frame was covered in a layer of heavy alloy armor.
Not to mention whether he could beat a Leviathan beast, just in terms of size, one could say it was like comparing the earth to the sky.
Furthermore.
If he had a Sacred Cloth, Hawk might have run to the main battlefield to join the fun.
For now, forget it.
Anyway, Queens also had Chitauri soldiers swarming like locusts; there was no need to run to Manhattan.
That was the battlefield of the original Avengers, not his.
He had become stronger.
But he had only become stronger.
The awakening of the Cosmo was just a beginning, a starting point.
It was not the ending, nor was it the finish line.
So...
Hawk went nowhere, and he didn't even choose to take the initiative to attack; instead, he crouched right at his own doorstep, waiting like a farmer waiting for a rabbit, sitting and waiting for the Chitauri soldiers rampaging nearby to walk right into his trap when they came to provide support after receiving the death notification of their companions.
This was much easier than taking the initiative to attack himself.
After all, Chitauri soldiers could fly, but he could not.
The most important point.
The apartment block he was in was a slum.
What is a slum?
Let's put it this way.
It takes at least half an hour for an ambulance to arrive at their block from the moment they receive a call, while it only takes three minutes at the fastest in Manhattan's wealthy districts.
The same goes for surveillance.
If one were to say that every trash can in the alleys of a wealthy neighborhood had a surveillance camera pointed at it, then the main roads in the slums had no surveillance cameras at all.
Even if there were, they wouldn't last until the next day; they would be dismantled by some local thugs that very night to be sold for money.
Soon.
Hawk, standing in the corner of the shadows, saw two Chitauri soldiers who had received the death notification of their companions and were driving their flight vehicles, sweeping past not far away.
Hawk's eyes lit up.
Two minutes later.
"Thud!"
"Thud!"
On the ruins of the apartment, two more corpses were added next to the two ugly corpses that Hawk had previously arranged neatly, fearing that the Chitauri soldiers wouldn't see them.
And after sensing the death of their pilots, those two equally ugly-looking flight vehicles turned around on their own and flew in one direction.
Hawk watched this scene and retreated back into the corner of the shadows without changing his expression.
One minute later.
Upon detecting a sharp increase in the number of Chitauri soldier deaths in Queens, a signal was transmitted down from the Chitauri warship inside the wormhole above Manhattan.
The next moment.
Several Chitauri soldiers who were nearby, firing at full power, roaring, wantonly destroying buildings and vehicles, and slaughtering Earthlings, turned their heads in unison. After receiving the signal, they quickly gathered toward the roar that had just echoed over Jackson Heights.
They had received orders to go fight there.
The Chitauri soldiers roared and gathered behind their leader, and then, led by that captain who was taller and stronger than the other Chitauri soldiers, and whose flight vehicle even looked more ferocious than the ones beneath them, they arrived above the neighborhood.
Instantly.
They saw the broken, mangled corpses of their four companions, sitting in a row and lying flat on the ruins of the apartment.
"Squeak, squeak, squeak!"
"Hiss, hiss, hiss."
The moment they saw the corpses of their companions, the Chitauri soldier captain and the six Chitauri soldiers seemed to be stunned on the spot.
The next second.
They seemed to have recovered, as if they had received new orders, and the flight vehicles beneath them started up once again.
In the blink of an eye, the Chitauri soldier captain and the six Chitauri soldiers quickly spread out, then surrounded the neighborhood below in a circle, and then, their snake-like eyes devoid of any color, they pulled the triggers for the energy rounds on their flight vehicles without any hesitation.
Like cold biological weapons.
In an instant.
Energy rounds covered the sky like a net, conducting a blanket bombardment on the neighborhood on the ground.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The buildings in the neighborhood were shattering, the roads were collapsing, and the vehicles on the street were constantly exploding and catching fire.
Surrounding the neighborhood, the Chitauri soldiers firing in unison in the sky were expressionless, like machines. Their claws on the triggers did not loosen until the entire neighborhood was filled with smoke and dust from the bombardment, until the energy rounds of the flight vehicles were all depleted, and until that Chitauri captain stopped first, only then did they loosen their claws from the triggers in unison like a tight machine.
At this moment, the entire neighborhood had completely turned into a ruin.
Old apartment buildings were constantly crumbling.
Vehicles that were still burning occasionally emitted sounds of explosions.
Right now, this place looked more like Iraq than Iraq after being ravaged by war.
The Chitauri captain, sitting on its flight vehicle, its large green-bean eyes—also larger than the others—scanned the quiet, deserted neighborhood once more, then withdrew its gaze, received the latest order, and prepared to evacuate.
Under the firepower of such a powerful blanket attack by their Chitauri soldiers, no life could survive by luck.
Let alone these low-level life forms on Earth who couldn't even leave their own planet.
So...
The Chitauri alien mothership, which had been responsible for controlling and issuing orders from the wormhole side, issued the latest order to the Chitauri captain through the vision of the Chitauri soldiers.
As the Chitauri captain turned, the six Chitauri soldiers also followed suit and turned their flight vehicles.
But at the very moment these six Chitauri soldiers were turning around one after another, abruptly, the body of one of the companions riding a flight vehicle arched backward like a boiled shrimp, and with a squelch, the chest covered in armor instantly burst open.
The next second.
One, two, three, four, five.
The remaining five Chitauri soldiers hadn't even had time to react before they followed in the footsteps of the Chitauri soldier from just before.
Just as they turned their backs to the neighborhood, their chests burst open in response, splitting into a hole the size of a fist.
The chest was torn from back to front; it looked as if someone had punched through their chest from behind.
Almost the moment the chests of the six Chitauri soldiers burst open in response, six sounds of punches, like thunder, finally exploded!
"Boom, boom, boom!"
"Boom, boom, boom!"
The Chitauri captain, who was sitting on its flight vehicle and turning around at the moment its six team members' chests burst, heard the sound exploding in its ears, lifted its head mechanically, leaped down directly to the right, and jumped off the flight vehicle without any hesitation.
The next moment.
Its exclusive flight vehicle, which looked more ferocious than the other flight vehicles, seemed to have been hit by something and burst open in the air in response.
Boom!
