Chapter 27: Day One, Law-Abiding, Day Two, Rob a Bank! (Please Follow!)
Gwen’s mouth opened slightly.
She found it incredible to watch the dust, still revealing the shape of the sandbag under the refraction of the sunlight, slowly drifting away at a speed visible to the naked eye.
A heavy sword needs no edge; great skill is not crafted!
Hawk stood where he was, slowly exhaled a breath of stale air, and then turned around to look.
Gwen also shifted her gaze back to Hawk at this moment.
Their eyes met.
Looking at Hawk before her—his forehead slightly sweaty, wearing a white tank top that accentuated his powerful, muscular physique, and his hands wrapped in a layer of bandages—Gwen suddenly had an indescribable feeling.
Hawk, on the other hand, was somewhat surprised to see Gwen appear here.
"Is something the matter?"
"Nothing."
Gwen shook her head, hands behind her back, and as she walked toward Hawk, she looked around at the environment of the old gymnasium, which she hadn't visited since the new one was built: "The new gymnasium has air conditioning, why don't you go there?"
Hawk thought for a moment.
"It's quiet here."
"It is indeed quite quiet."
Gwen gave an affirmative answer to the explanation Hawk provided.
Hawk was a bit bewildered as he watched Gwen walk over to the side where he had placed his backpack and rest bench, and then sit right down.
"Is something up, Gwen?"
"Nothing."
Gwen, hands propped on the rest bench, smiled slightly. She looked at Hawk, who was standing in front of the sandbag, and said with a smile: "Idle is idle, I came over to appreciate the sight of a friend punching."
Hawk raised an eyebrow.
He looked at Gwen, who had a smile on her face, and always felt she was implying something.
But...
Forget it, punching is more important.
Hawk thought to himself, shook his head, withdrew his gaze from Gwen, and let it fall back onto the sandbag in front of him, preparing to continue his daily task of ten thousand punches.
After all, he had almost finished just a moment ago.
Then Gwen walked in.
Well, that's that.
Time to start all over again.
Hawk thought, then adjusted his breathing; he didn't use the power of his small universe, but continued to rely on his physical strength alone to complete the daily task of ten thousand punches.
As for Gwen on the side?
Let her watch if she wants; this is a public gymnasium after all, he couldn't exactly stop people from entering.
There was no reason to.
Soon.
With Hawk's next punch, the rhythmic, impactful sound of strikes once again echoed through the old gymnasium.
Only, compared to the rhythm of his previous punching, this time Hawk subconsciously accelerated the pace to finish the task as quickly as possible.
One punch, one punch, and another punch.
Immediately after...
Shadows of fists appeared.
Gwen, sitting on the rest bench, only felt a blur before her eyes, and then she watched the scene that appeared before her, looking like fists filling the sky, her expression turning somewhat dazed.
What is going on.
I didn't even blink.
Gwen thought to herself, and subconsciously took her phone out of her pocket, aiming it at Hawk.
Hawk, who was concentrating on his punching, saw this out of the corner of his eye.
"Don't record."
"...Oh."
Hearing this, Gwen looked at Hawk, who didn't stop his movements and didn't even look her way. She blinked, and although she doubted whether she had just misheard, she still put her phone down.
A while later.
The fists filling the sky gradually disappeared, Hawk's movements also stopped, and the old gymnasium became quiet once again.
Hawk then pulled on the iron chains, took down the hanging sandbag, swung it with one hand directly back into the corner, and then, under Gwen's gaze, walked over to the rest bench, took a towel out of the outer pocket of his backpack, and looked at Gwen sitting to the side.
He thought for a moment and asked again: "Are you sure nothing is the matter? Gwen?"
Gwen nodded.
"Something is the matter."
"..."
The corner of Hawk's mouth twitched imperceptibly.
But Gwen caught it.
She smiled.
However, Gwen didn't continue to tease Hawk, but directly stated the purpose of coming to find him: "The grade dance this year has started counting heads; are you participating this year?"
Although Midtown High School was a private elite high school, it still had all the various dances and parties, such as the back-to-school dance, the masquerade party, and the grade dance.
Gwen asked Hawk if he was participating almost every year.
But Hawk had never attended even once.
He was a lone wolf who liked quiet and disliked noisy, boisterous environments.
But that was the high-EQ way of saying it.
The real reason was actually very simple.
He was poor; he had no money to buy clothes for the dance, and he didn't have a car, or even a driver's license. He couldn't exactly walk his date home after the dance ended.
The most important point.
He also didn't have a date.
Why go to a dance alone, to watch couples flaunt their affection in front of him?
This year was no exception.
"Not going."
Hawk didn't hesitate at all and shook his head directly.
Compared to attending dances or whatever, he preferred staying on the apartment rooftop to watch the stars.
Quiet.
The most important point.
It costs no money.
Save where you can, spend where you must; he was already independent ahead of schedule and no longer had federal subsidies. Between renting an apartment and purchasing daily necessities this week, his savings had shrunk significantly.
Hawk even felt that the idea of buying a car he had birthed a few days ago was still a bit too rash.
So he had already given up on the idea of buying a car.
Better to keep some money for a rainy day.
Anyway, the school had a free school bus to the bridge park station, who needs a car.
He didn't even have a driver's license, for crying out loud.
