Chapter 47: Hawk, Who Was Thinking of Committing a Robbery, Gets Robbed

~4 min read 702 words

Hum!

Two-thirty in the afternoon.

After taking off from New York, the flight landed smoothly at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C.

Half an hour later.

Traveling light, Hawk walked out of the airport behind him, immediately approached a taxi, pulled open the back door, and sat inside, telling the young Black man in the driver's seat who had turned to look at him the name of a motel located in the town of Quantico.

The young Black driver nodded, started the meter, and then stepped on the gas, driving the vehicle away from the airport.

Although the Marine Corps base and the Federal Bureau of Investigation academy were both in Quantico, that did not mean ordinary people could not go there.

Ordinary people just had no way to freely enter areas under military management.

But the town of Quantico itself, which was the perimeter of the base, was still open.

Any self-disciplined person has superb execution, let alone a man like Hawk, who had insisted on throwing ten thousand punches every single day for a thousand consecutive days.

Hawk’s execution was also unprecedented.

He had just walked out of the Osborn Biological Industry building that morning, and by noon, he had already flashed to the airport to buy the fastest ticket to Washington.

Hawk hadn't even gone home to get a few changes of clothes.

Fortunately, he had spent the whole night before looking at satellite maps of Quantico and had roughly planned what he would need to do if he were to go to Quantico to retrieve his Gammanium.

Otherwise, Hawk, having just stepped off the plane, would probably be like a headless fly, not knowing which way to go.

"Plan A."

"If I can get in quietly, I'll get in quietly."

"But if I get discovered, then I'll switch directly to Plan B."

"Quick and decisive!"

Sitting in the back seat of the taxi, Hawk thought silently to himself once more, then withdrew his focus and turned to look at the scenery outside the car window.

And then...

Hawk calmly raised his eyes to glance at the driver in front, while taking out from his pocket the phone he had forgotten to restart after turning it off for the flight.

The phone turned on quickly.

The ding-dong sounds of text messages came in.

Hawk arched his sword-like eyebrows, and just as he was about to unlock it to see what junk text the carrier had sent this time, a low voice sounded inside the car, accompanied by a pitch-black gun barrel extended from the front and aimed at him.

"Don't move, give me the phone."

"..."

Hawk fell into silence.

Who am I?

Where am I?

What am I doing?

No.

Laozi went to Quantico to commit a robbery; how is it that I just landed and got robbed by someone else before even reaching Quantico?

Damn it!

It’s the capital district, for heaven's sake; is the public security even worse than in New York City?

In an instant.

Hawk’s impression of Washington, D.C. plummeted to freezing point.

The driver, who was driving, looked through the rearview mirror at Hawk, who seemed stunned in the back seat, and said in a deep voice, waving the pitch-black gun barrel: "Don't move, give me the phone."

Hawk came back to his senses.

"Do you want me not to move, or do you want me to give you the phone?"

"..."

The driver was silent for a while after hearing this.

The next second.

He seemed to have lost his composure.

"Motherfucker, stop the damn chatter, give me the phone..."

"Ring-a-ling!"

Just as the driver lost his composure and spoke, a ringtone sounded from Hawk's phone.

It was Gwen.

Hawk blinked as he looked at the only number saved in his phone's contact list.

This phone of his only had one number saved in it.

Just as he had said before, he had no need to dial on his phone because he didn't need to call anyone, and no one would call him.

Uh...

Except for Gwen.

Hawk looked at Gwen's incoming call, answered it directly, and held it to his ear.

"Hello..."

"..."

The young driver lost his composure.
