Chapter 577

~8 min read 1,454 words

Hawkeye fell silent.

He had been wondering why Thor hadn't come to find him to fight on Mars these past few days.

At first, Hawkeye was quite happy to enjoy the peace and quiet.

After all, as things stood now, the battles between him and Thor had lost their meaning.

Unless Thor could transform from a god of hammers into a god of thunder, otherwise, once the Black Phoenix Surplice was donned and the Cosmo exploded, Thor was destined to lose.

Originally, Hawkeye had even been thinking about how to refuse when Thor came to challenge him to a fight.

As it turned out...

This guy Thor had found a new love and had directly abandoned him, his old flame.

And this reason?

Hawkeye's thoughts turned, and he said to Jane, who was shrugging, "You should know, every time we went to Mars to drink, he always came back drunk, but I never did."

Sharon, standing to the side, opened her mouth.

Hawkeye looked toward Sharon.

Sharon pursed her lips and said, "You were drunk once; the twenty-fifth time you challenged Thor to a fight, you didn't pay attention while breaking through the atmosphere and fell into the Hudson River."

Hawkeye blinked.

"Did I?"

"You did."

"..."

Hawkeye fell silent.

Jane, standing to the side, saw this and said with a smile, "When Thor called last night, he said they were camping and having a barbecue on the beach in Dubai, and they should still be there today; you can go find him."

Hawkeye raised an eyebrow.

"Dubai?"

"Tony invited them; they just finished a siege on a Hydra base."

Sharon added from the side.

He had almost forgotten that among the members of the Avengers, there was someone who was not short of money.

Upon hearing this, Hawkeye's expression turned to one of realization, and he smiled: "Forget it, I have an appointment today."

As he spoke.

He checked the time on his watch; it was almost time to go to Osborn Biological Industries to pick up Gwen, so after hugging Jane goodbye again, he came to the parking lot under Sharon's polite escort, and drove his black Audi A8 out of the New York S. H. I. E. L. D. hub.

Half an hour later.

After picking up Gwen, who had come to visit his laboratory in the morning, at Osborn Biological, Hawkeye followed Felicia, who was driving in front, and drove together toward the Osborn Manor outside New York City.

When they arrived at the entrance of the main building of Osborn Manor, the old butler was already standing at the door with a smile to welcome them.

Little Ben was sitting in a smart stroller, drawing circles along a predetermined route in the spacious living room.

There was a maid looking after him nearby.

"Haha."

"Little Ben, look who's here."

"Godmother!"

"Godmother."

Gwen took Little Ben, who had a gold cross around his neck, from the stroller into her arms and teased him.

Hawkeye looked around the surroundings.

"Where's Peter?"

"He went to deliver pizza."

"..."

Hawkeye listened to the answer given by Felicia, fell silent for a moment, and took a deep breath.

"Good man."

"Peter is indeed a good man."

Felicia had a happy smile on her face as she agreed with Hawkeye's statement: "But it should be much better after Peter graduates."

Gwen, holding Little Ben, looked at Felicia upon hearing this: "Didn't Peter join Dr. Octavius's laboratory?"

Hawkeye looked at Gwen curiously.

"Dr. Octavius?"

"Dr. Otto Gunther Octavius, an outstanding doctor of nuclear physics; he collaborated with Empire University to set up a laboratory."

"Oh."

Hawkeye realized.

Gwen looked at Hawkeye curiously: "You know Dr. Octavius? That shouldn't be; you study law, you guys don't even have doctors."

Hawkeye's mouth twitched.

"I have already declared psychology as my second major."

"Psychology has a doctoral degree."

After being teased by Gwen that day that their law department was only a professional doctorate and not a Doctor of Philosophy, he had been thinking about getting himself a doctoral degree.

The Phoenix family could have no doctors, but it absolutely could not have only one doctor.

Hawkeye didn't want that to happen after he and Gwen had a child in the future.

The children would ask him, "Dad, why do others call Mom 'Doctor' and call you 'Mr.'?"

That wouldn't do.

Gwen was slightly stunned upon hearing Hawkeye's words.

"Psychology? When did that happen? I haven't heard you mention it."

"I was planning to give you a surprise."

Hawkeye shrugged, looking at Gwen, who was using her academic credentials to pressure him: "If you didn't always tease me, this would have been a surprise."

Gwen's smile was bright: "Alright, I was wrong, future Phoenix lawyer... Mr.!"

The smile on Hawkeye's face froze.

The next second.

Just as he was preparing to settle the score with Gwen, Gwen had already taken the initiative and handed Little Ben, who was in her arms, to him.

"Little Ben, hug your godfather."

"Giggle!"

Little Ben, who had been stuffed into Hawkeye's arms, looked into Hawkeye's eyes and seemed to see the brilliant, boundless Phoenix universe, instantly giggling and laughing.

Gwen saw this and said to Felicia, who was to the side: "Look, he laughed as soon as he saw his godfather; I held him for so long and he didn't laugh."

Felicia also had a look of wonder on her face as she watched Little Ben giggling in Hawkeye's arms: "When Peter held Little Ben, Little Ben had never laughed this happily either."

Hawkeye looked at the two women happily, holding Little Ben with one arm: "So, Peter is his father, but I am his godfather."

As everyone knows.

The title of godfather sounds much more prestigious than father.

Just at this moment.

Hawkeye's sword-like eyebrows arched as he sensed Peter's aura, and holding Little Ben, he disappeared from the spot with a 'whoosh'.

"Little Ben, look, a big spider!"

"..."

Peter, who had just finished delivering his last food order and saw that he was running out of time, simply landed in the manor wearing his spider suit. Before he could even stand steady, he heard this voice, and after getting up, he saw Hawkeye holding his son and looking at him with a smile.

Peter saw this, took off his mask, and was about to go hold Little Ben.

Hawkeye stepped back.

"Did you wash your hands? You're going to hold my godson."

"..."

Peter opened his mouth, shook his head with a bitter smile.

Hawkeye then held Little Ben and walked back toward the main building of the manor with Peter.

"Buddy, did you go deliver pizza again?"

"Yeah."

Peter pursed his lips and nodded.

Felicia was very rich.

Quite rich, after all, Felicia had inherited the entire Osborn Biological Industries.

But this was Felicia's money.

Of course.

Peter wasn't so pretentious that Little Ben had to go back to Queens with him and sleep in the old room with Aunt May.

That wouldn't be called self-respect, but inferiority.

However, Peter still wanted to earn money through his own labor; perhaps he didn't earn much, but basically, Peter would give the money he earned to Felicia, which counted as a contribution to the household expenses.

Labor is not shameful.

That was how Uncle Ben had taught him.

And Peter had always felt that way too.

Hawkeye glanced at Peter, who didn't feel tired when fighting criminals but was clearly exhausted on his face after delivering pizza all morning, thought for a moment, took a business card of Sharon Carter out of his pocket, and handed it to Peter.

"Here."

"What is this?"

Peter took the business card, looked at the simple name and phone number on it, and looked at Hawkeye.

Hawkeye held Little Ben: "A phone number that can turn your abilities into cash; stop running around being a vigilante, I'm afraid you'll get caught by my future father-in-law."

Peter heard this.

"Sheriff Stacy wouldn't catch me."

"Human Sheriff Stacy can't, but Vampire Sheriff Stacy can."

"Vampire..."

"Shh."

Hawkeye made a 'shh' gesture to Peter, then pointed to the business card in Peter's hand: "Anyway, you're fighting crime as a vigilante, and you're fighting crime for money; since that's the case, why not choose the one that pays? It's also money earned from your labor. Don't worry, the other party knows about you, they just haven't come to find you yet."

When S. H. I. E. L. D. investigated him, they also investigated Peter thoroughly.

But because Peter was his friend, S. H. I. E. L. D. hadn't made contact with Peter before he gave the word.

Hawkeye knew Peter had been delivering food during this time when he was chatting with Peter at the church entrance yesterday.

But how could this be allowed?
