Chapter 68: Marvel: Awakening the Cosmo at the Start, Chapter 32
That is understandable.
Hawk felt that if it were him, and his daughter ran off without a word only to bring a man back later, he would likely be even angrier than George Stacy.
Breaking that wild boar's legs would be getting off lightly.
What?
So the wild boar is himself?
Oh.
Then it’s fine.
Hawk thought to himself.
However, he was still a bit curious as to how he and Gwen had reached the point of holding hands.
His memories were a mess.
But...
He was happy.
As the saying goes.
It wasn't that Hawk hadn't thought about dating, especially dating Gwen Stacy, the most recognized girlfriend in Marvel.
But he hadn't had the confidence before.
Now, he did.
Not only did he have it, but he had a lot of it.
And once he took the next step—gathering the meteorites, obtaining vibranium from Wakanda, and forging his Phoenix Cloth—he would have even more.
So!
Watching Gwen trot ahead to George Stacy and grab his arm, Hawk kept his expression unchanged, maintained eye contact with George, walked up to him, and extended his right hand first.
"Mr. Stacy, I'm Hawk. Sorry for making you worry."
"..."
George didn't speak, nor did he shake Hawk's hand; after a single glance, he ignored Hawk and looked toward Gwen at his side.
"Let's go, Helen is still waiting at home."
"Dad!"
"It's okay, Gwen."
Hawk retracted his right hand with a calm expression and said to Gwen, "You go back with Mr. Stacy first."
He understood George; right now, let alone refusing to shake his hand, even if George wanted to attack him, he would at most dodge and would not fight back.
After all, he was the one who acted like a wild boar.
So...
After saying this, Hawk smiled slightly at Gwen again, then said goodbye to Mr. Stacy, and left on his own, not wanting to put Gwen in a difficult position.
One hour later.
Hawk returned to his apartment at the Queensboro Bridge Park.
He turned on the lights.
He had originally expected that since he hadn't been back for over twenty days, he would see a room covered in dust.
As it turned out...
There wasn't much dust, and even the shorts he had previously hung outside the window had been folded and placed on the sofa.
On top of the folded shorts was an envelope.
This must be the letter Gwen mentioned on the phone that Dr. Connors had asked her to deliver.
Hawk thought to himself, sat on the sofa, picked up the envelope, and took out the handwritten letter inside.
It was a recommendation letter written by Dr. Connors to New York University.
Hawk then remembered that Dr. Connors' doctorate seemed to be from New York University.
"Hiss!"
"This gift is heavy enough."
Hawk blinked.
To be honest, the weight of this gift was indeed significant.
Although with Dr. Connors' reputation, it could at most be considered icing on the cake, icing on the cake was still a bonus; others probably couldn't even get this recommendation letter if they wanted to.
After all, in the West, a recommendation letter is essentially a transaction of favors.
So...
If it were before Hawk awakened his Cosmo, he would have been absolutely thrilled to receive this recommendation letter.
But now.
Hawk no longer cared whether he could attend New York University.
But he didn't think about quitting school entirely either; it was just that his mindset had leveled out.
If I get it, it is my fortune; if I lose it, it is my fate.
After all, he had already seen another different and much more brilliant future.
However...
Thoughts aside, he still had to make a call to express his gratitude for the recommendation letter Dr. Connors had provided.
Hawk turned the envelope over; Gwen had written Dr. Connors' number on it.
He took his phone from his pocket, looked at the black screen, chuckled, stood up from the sofa, and walked into the bedroom.
In the bedroom.
Hawk connected the phone to the charger, sat on the edge of the bed, and waited for it to turn on.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of the photo frame on his nightstand, which seemed to have been moved.
Hawk raised an eyebrow, reached out to readjust the frame, and angled it back toward his bedside.
No reason.
He liked to sleep on his side, and with the frame placed like this, there was a seventy percent chance he would see it the moment he opened his eyes every day.
Done.
After repositioning the frame, Hawk smiled slightly, then looked at the powered-on phone and called Dr. Connors.
The call connected quickly.
"I am Curtis..."
"Dr. Connors, it's me, Hawk."
Hawk identified himself and then apologized for being away on a trip and only just seeing the recommendation letter.
Dr. Connors on the other end seemed very happy.
After chatting with Dr. Connors for a moment, Hawk casually asked, "Dr. Connors sounds very happy, did the experiment succeed?"
Dr. Connors laughed heartily.
"Almost, one of the lab mice has shown me the hope of victory."
"...Alright, congratulations in advance, Doctor."
"Thanks, alright, Hawk, I need to get back to work."
"Okay, you go ahead."
"..."
