Chapter 97: Marvel: Awakening the Little Universe at the Start, Chapter 45
Hawk still greeted him very politely.
"Mr. Stacy."
"Thank you."
Unlike the last time when he ignored Hawk, this time George gave a slight nod and said thank you to Hawk.
Hawk said with a smile, "It's what I should do."
George did not speak; his peripheral vision swept over Gwen and Hawk, who were arm-in-arm in front of him, and then he said to Gwen, "Call Helen. She was very worried after the news reported that Midtown High School was attacked by the Lizard."
Only then did Gwen remember that she had forgotten to call her mother; she let out a cry of surprise and then hurriedly took her phone out of her pocket to call her mother, Helen.
After Gwen ran to the side to make the call, George stood beside Hawk, looking at Dr. Connors, who was being placed into a body bag not far away: "So, the Lizard is Dr. Connors, but why did he come to the school?"
Hawk's heart stirred, and he shook his head without any expression: "I don't know."
He was thinking about the words Dr. Connors said before he died.
Bewitched by a demon.
Good grief.
What kind of demon could bewitch Dr. Connors into ignoring the Spider-Man he had fought on the Williamsburg Bridge, and also ignoring Hawk, whose blood seemed important to him, only to make harmless Gwen his primary target?
This made no sense.
Unless this demon was not a proper demon.
Hawk thought silently to himself.
Unfortunately...
Dr. Connors was already dead, and it was likely that the answer to this question would never be known.
Soon.
After reporting her safety to her mother Helen, Gwen walked over, feeling relieved, and naturally took Hawk's arm: "I've finished reporting my safety to Mom."
George's peripheral vision caught his daughter's natural movement, his mouth twitched imperceptibly, and then he prepared to leave.
He had to leave; he was afraid he wouldn't be able to help himself and would shoot Hawk.
Another half hour passed, and with the departure of the Queens Precinct of the New York Police Department and Captain George Stacy of the 19th Precinct, Midtown High School announced that school would be dismissed early today.
The students, who were still in the aftermath of the shock of the battle between Spider-Man and the Lizard, immediately snapped out of their shock upon hearing this decision, cheered for the school's wisdom, and then ran toward the parking lot like wild horses let loose.
Hawk also shook his head, too lazy to think about why Dr. Connors would do such a thing.
He was dead, after all.
Thinking about it more was useless.
Weekend.
Because it was the weekend, Hawk was holed up in his new apartment, connecting the second-hand computer he bought from Skye to the hotspot of the second-hand phone his girlfriend gave him, surfing the internet.
Taking advantage of the two days of rest over the weekend, he planned to go online and see if he could sell the five trophies he had confiscated after killing the Chitauri soldiers, which were hidden under his bed.
He had to sell them.
He had to find a way to make money; otherwise, even if he wanted to attend the graduation prom, he was afraid he wouldn't have the money to buy a tuxedo.
Although, theoretically, he shouldn't be short of money now.
But...
After the original Spider-Man was corrupted by Venom, his greatest evil thought was merely buying a discounted suit.
Hawk felt that he was not as moral as the original Spider-Man, but at the very least, he shouldn't be too much worse than him.
Just as he was searching online for sales channels.
There was a thud outside the window.
Hawk looked up.
The Spider-Man he had just been thinking about was clinging to his window, looking in from the fire escape outside.
