Chapter 298: You and I, brothers, fight together—who stands a chance against us!

~11 min read 2,034 words

After Viow was taken by darkness, the remaining Plasma members lost their leader and were terrified of the dragon that appeared; they had heard Viow muttering about the Legendary Dragon, and now, in their confusion, fear surged within them!

The Legendary Dragon—the Pokémon from the founding legend of Unova—isn’t that the companion meant for the King!

How could it possibly be in the hands of some strange young passerby?

And Viow’s Pokémon was defeated in an instant—yes, the dragon using fire before us is definitely “Reshiram”!

The Plasma members immediately scattered like birds and beasts, retreating toward Route 7; though they fled in disarray, they still couldn't help tossing more flyers.

“Their activities haven’t stopped—they’re still planning to give a speech at Skyarrow Tower! These bastards!”

Fenglu picked up a flyer, her anxiety rising as she turned to Guang Tai: “Thank you for helping! But the matter isn’t over—I must go to Skyarrow Tower right away!”

Though she was stunned by the appearance of the Legendary Dragon, something far more urgent demanded her attention now!

“Miss Wanchong! I don’t know why you’re here with this Trainer, but I must leave at once!”

“Ah, little Fenglu!” Wanchong reached out, but Fenglu had already run off—leaving her helplessly sighing: “Fenglu’s always like this—when it comes to Skyarrow Tower and Flying Pokémon, she rushes off without thinking. The Plasma are gathering at Skyarrow Tower to give speeches while people mourn their Pokémon!”

“Ah, and this one isn’t the Legendary Dragon.”

“Aow~” Poliwhirl licked Wanchong, squinting as it emitted a low, strange chuckle.

Am I not legendary myself? Hmm?

“Alright, alright, you’re legendary, okay!” Wanchong, unable to escape the lick, hugged Poliwhirl’s head; she hadn’t expected this Pokémon seemed to like her so much.

“Yoo—” Sprigatot grew restless, tugging at Guang Tai’s clothes with its mouth, signaling him to climb onto its back—they needed to reach Skyarrow Tower immediately.

“Miss Wanchong, I must go now—you stay behind and handle the aftermath. Fenglu’s gone, so it’s your job to clean up!”

“Ah! So sneaky, Boss, wait for me!” Wanchong watched Guang Tai depart, and Poliwhirl dashed off on its dragon claws to follow!

Wanchong was immediately surrounded by enthusiastic citizens!

“She’s Miss Wanchong of the Unova Elite Four! I’ve seen her on TV!”

“Thanks to Miss Wanchong, our Pokémon weren’t taken!”

“Miss Wanchong, please sign my autograph—I’ve read your novels, I’m your biggest fan!”

At the end of Route 7.

Wind howled with thunder, rain poured like a deluge!

N stood atop the platform, arms outstretched, welcoming the torrential storm; dim light flickered faintly through the dark clouds—the brief white flash of lightning—and N remained motionless, like a statue carved from wood and clay.

The gale and downpour came swiftly, and the two Cloud Deities locked in mortal combat now emerged from the churning sea of darkness!

Tornadus in its Therian Form is a Pokémon that stirs storms, with white, wavy hair, pointed whiskers, and two green pointed ears; its muscular green body is powerfully built, its lower half entirely wrapped in pure white clouds, and a long, curled tail adorned with purple bands and yellow spiral patterns coils out from the clouds.

Thundurus in its Therian Form is a Pokémon that summons lightning, with white, curved, protruding hair, pointed whiskers, blue pointed ears on either side of its head, and a long, sharp purple horn on its forehead; its upper body is muscular with a sky-blue hue, its lower half completely shrouded in pure white clouds, and a thick, long tail resembling a chain of meteor hammers swings from within the clouds, each spherical segment tipped with long, sharp spines.

Dark clouds churned like ink, and the two divine figures clashed amid the storm and thunder!

Tornadus’s green body, wrapped in spiraling hurricanes, unleashed gale-force winds that uprooted entire forests!

Rain was sliced by wind blades; the tip of Thundurus’s purple horn erupted blinding lightning, each thunderclap igniting ridges, leaving behind blackened cracks spreading like spiderwebs!

Leaf Storm! Attack with icy winds so fierce they make body and soul tremble—sometimes lowers the opponent’s speed!

Thunder Storm! Summon thunderclouds to unleash a violent storm of wind and lightning—sometimes causes paralysis!

Their battle resembled the chaos of creation itself—anyone witnessing this scene would be drawn to their power and feel awe at the heart of the storm!

To ancient people, the power of Legendary Pokémon could alter heaven and earth—this was the ability only a “god” could possess!

“The gods of wind and thunder fly across the skies of Unova; legend says their churning of the atmosphere causes the seasons to cycle endlessly.”

N stared in awe at the battling Cloud Deities—these two Pokémon, upon meeting, always fought; their wind and lightning destroyed forests, raised waves, and burned farmlands. For Castelia City, though the Wind and Thunder Deities didn’t meet every year, their encounters on Route 7 were common.

And when things spiraled beyond control, the third Cloud Deity—the one said to mediate their battles—would appear and crush them with overwhelming power!

N gazed eagerly at the ink-black sky, where the Wind and Thunder Deities’ battle grew fiercer, yet Landorus—the one meant to stop them—remained absent.

This disappointed N.

“It seems not every clash draws Landorus. Lightning sparked wildfires, storms uprooted towering trees—yet even now, in such fury, the God of Fields still hasn’t appeared…”

N had no way of knowing the reason Landorus was late: it had overslept in Ancient City, its power insufficient, so it had gone elsewhere—delaying this year’s “Abundance Ceremony.”

“Even with just two, it’s enough.”

N’s long green hair whipped wildly in the turbulent air, his eyes crystal-clear. He raised his hands, pale green auras glowing in his palms—his unique ability to resonate with Pokémon.

The thoughts of the Cloud Deities were read!

N closed his eyes, his consciousness now synchronized with the mental waves of the two Legendary Pokémon!

Tornadus chased the freedom of the wind; Thundurus craved the edge of thunder—their conflict was merely the endless cycle of an ancient fate!

When they fought, they became utterly oblivious to all other life. Who is stronger? Who truly rules the sky? Every meeting demanded a contest—without battle, they could not prove their strength or existence. Such were the wild Cloud Deities!

“Stop! Your rage only consumes the life this land nurtures. Power that causes disaster is meaningless—disaster cannot prove strength!”

N could read Pokémon thoughts, and when he spoke, his words reached their hearts—even those soaring high above.

Thus, even as Tornadus and Thundurus raged in battle, they turned their attention to N’s voice—but they sneered at his plea!

Wind and lightning are the purest expressions of power! You, a human who can’t even use moves, stop giving us orders!

“Indeed, with my current strength, I cannot mediate your conflict directly. If we cannot understand each other, then I’ll understand you in the way I’ve just learned!”

“I challenge you! If you lose, become my strength and my arms—for now!”

N himself hadn’t expected to say such a thing—but since unlocking the Battle Heart in the Battle Subway, he’d come to believe that battle was a powerful way to understand both Pokémon and human hearts.

Especially in special cases—like these two Cloud Deities—normal communication was useless. The only way to make them truly listen was to defeat them!

Tornadus and Thundurus exchanged glances, both eyes filled with disdain and something strange.

He may be a human who speaks to Pokémon—but so what? Just another psychic!

You think you can fight us? You’ve still got much to learn! Arrogant human, don’t get too full of yourself!

Without hesitation, Tornadus gathered wind and air into the shape of an Eight-Bladed Slice—the move “Air Slash”—but in its hands, it became a storm-cutter!

Thundurus slammed its tail, violent lightning flashing from the clouds, striking directly at N!

“Help me, my friends!”

For this battle, N had spent days traveling to key places, gathering powerful allies—this was a fight to prove his belief, and convincing these two Cloud Deities was no different.

He didn’t want to lose. For some reason, that thought never left his mind. After witnessing that person’s battle, N understood: only half-hearted Pokémon would fail—resulting in his own humiliating defeat and another round of persuasion.

So he needed stronger Pokémon to aid him!

Tornadus and Thundurus were also angered!

Enough talk—if you want to fight, then fight! We’ll put our rivalry on hold and teach this insolent human a lesson together!

But come to think of it—this human’s energy feels familiar… Thundurus’s eyes flickered as it glanced at Tornadus, as if confirming something.

The next moment, their gazes suddenly turned far away.

Landorus?!

The two brothers stared in disbelief at the distance, but after watching, saw no sign of Landorus—perhaps they were just spooking themselves.

But no—

Thundurus: “Bote! (That’s Landorus’s power!)”

Tornadus: “Tuo! (It’s Landorus’s emissary!)”

The two Cloud Deities wore strange expressions. Landorus’s emissaries weren’t rare—in Unova, shrines to Landorus existed everywhere, even villages under its protection, like Three-Cloud Island and the Abundance Shrine.

But this emissary was unlike any before—he bore Landorus’s blessing. In other words, he was a recognized proxy of Landorus!

Come to think of it, why didn’t that meddlesome fellow show up during this fight? Or does he think sending one emissary is enough to defeat us brothers?

What nonsense!

You and I brothers fight together—who stands a chance against us!

“Bote!” Thundurus pointed far away, glaring at N as it issued its demand.

“You mean—if I agree—I’m to fight Landorus’s emissary as your proxy?”

Tornadus and Thundurus grinned wickedly.

Let the emissaries fight each other—that’s another way to show strength. Our Wind and Thunder emissaries must be stronger than Landorus’s. If you want our recognition, fight Landorus’s emissary!

N’s gaze shifted slightly. Landorus’s emissary… Though he didn’t know who it was, Plasma agents had already reported.

No outsiders had arrived in Castelia City—meaning the emissary wasn’t from there.

“I see… I understand. I know who that Landorus emissary is. If you want me to fight him, you must obey my commands.”

N sent his emotions and thoughts to Tornadus and Thundurus: “I don’t know when he gained Landorus’s favor, but that he did—doesn’t surprise me.”

“He’s strong. I’ve never truly fought him, but I know he’s far stronger than I am. Without your power, I cannot defeat him—he has a Pokémon called the ‘King.’”

The two Cloud Deities’ spirits jolted!

Wait—you just said…?

Dreadful memories surged from ancient times: in a certain region a hundred years ago, King Pokémon were everywhere—special Pokémon blessed by Arceus, illuminated by the Radiance of Sinnoh’s Great Lord!

You mean a King has appeared in Unova?! That’s impossible—Kings should all be dead!

“Hahahaha!”

Tornadus suddenly burst into laughter, winking at Thundurus.

This is even better, brother!

That guy isn’t just Landorus’s emissary—he’s also the caretaker of the ‘King’?!

We haven’t dealt with someone like that in over a hundred years!

Come to think of it—wasn’t there a girl back then who chased us brothers, beating us down? She was some Sinnoh Great Lord’s emissary too! Shall we settle old scores today?

“Wuhahaha!”

Thundurus joined in with wild laughter, arms crossed, smirking down at the green-haired human before them.

Since the beginning, they had sensed that N’s power resembled the fluctuation from the underwater ruins, and that he could communicate with Pokémon. Although there were many such humans in the world, N’s power was unique—it was the native Connecting Force of Unova.

So, the human king is to fight the messenger of the gods? This has become interesting indeed!

“Porter!”

“Tuo!”

Very well, I lend you the great power of Wind and Thunder! Unleash our strength fully and strike down that divine messenger with a crushing blow!

A hint of confusion appeared in the eyes of the two Cloud Deities.

Beyond the blessing of Land Cloud and the rumors of the king, they sensed another power.

It was a power capable of dominating the sky and storms, also originating from someone far away!

This power stirred in Whirlwind Cloud and Thunder Cloud a strange sense of urgency—the source of that power, if claimed by them, would elevate their strength even further!
