Chapter 90: Spirit Communication Book
Shen Du, Traveler’s Workshop.
After the sun set, all Pokémon except Regirock entered the house; the Rock Giant, too wide and burdened by protruding stone pillars, could not fit through the front door and entered instead through the back entrance of the forge, where it then rested.
Guang Tai carried some stone and materials into the fourth supernatural room with the Pokémon.
The supernatural cloth here was nearly depleted, and the high-quality cloth online had not yet arrived; they could replenish stock from the village.
Guang Tai unwrapped the tightly bound supernatural cloth, revealing several stacks of blank paper, two thin notebooks, ink, and a pen—all of which, after days wrapped in the cloth, had slowly absorbed some spiritual energy.
Guang Tai had also placed several cursed talismans in this room, which could enhance the supernatural energy of the environment.
As a result, the fourth room now appeared strange and frightening from the outside.
Remembering a client from Unova who had ordered a custom crystal lamp Fire Spirit statue, Guang Tai decided to make it in this very room.
After moving the stone, Guang Tai brought in a wooden table to serve as a workbench.
He picked up the stack of supernatural paper—and instantly, the sheets began to flutter on their own!
No one controlled them; the scene resembled those supernatural locations in games where books fly freely.
“Yōū~” Doujianshao was thrilled, soaring upward to dance among the supernatural papers!
Is this sword dance?
No, no, no—it hadn’t drawn its blades yet. Guang Tai exhaled in relief and quickly called out: “Don’t cut the paper to shreds!”
And why did it suddenly start dancing?
“Yōpu~” Doujianshao responded, and Miss Qun seemed deeply interested in this dance; she immediately stepped into the center of the room. The chamber was large and empty, so her wild leaps wouldn’t knock anything over.
Amid the swirling supernatural papers, Miss Qun danced gracefully, while Doujianshao spun endlessly overhead as if dancing with her—this sight left Caomiaogui and Unknown Totem E utterly stunned.
Caomiaogui’s eyes sparkled with longing, and it began imagining itself dancing.
Paf! The fantasy failed. Caomiaogui realized instantly that dancing with its own body was absurd, and its expression sank into (╥﹏╥).
“I thought I heard the sound of a dream shattering,” Guang Tai sensed Caomiaogui’s emotional shift.
“Nǎ?” Caomiaogui sighed. Unknown Totem E had just thought of a good idea: to use its Awakening Power to realize Caomiaogui’s fantasy—but then it reconsidered.
It really was absurd. Better not.
Unknown Totem E then flew into the swirling papers, spinning midair alongside Doujianshao, joining the sudden supernatural dance party.
Guang Tai, watching Caomiaogui’s dejection, suddenly had an idea and said to Miss Qun: “Miss Qun, could you teach Caomiaogui the move ‘Drafting’?”
“Nǎ?” Caomiaogui looked at Guang Tai in confusion. Guang Tai smiled and explained: “Drafting is a move you can learn—it improves your speed through light, swift steps. If you master it, your dancing will look beautiful—very beautiful.”
“The essence of dance isn’t speed—it’s footwork.”
Miss Qun stepped forward and demonstrated the rhythm. Her steps tapped in sync with her movements, her elegant form creating a visual delight—and as she danced, her stats rose.
Drafting! Grass Dance!
“Nǎ!” Caomiaogui’s eyes sparkled with awe. It began mimicking Miss Qun’s steps—tap-tap-tap—but since it had four legs, its rhythm was clumsy. Still, it soon found joy in it, and without realizing, joined the others in dancing.
Then Guang Tai noticed Doujianshao’s stats rising!
‘Doujianshao learned the move: Sword Dance!’
“Huh?”
While dancing with Miss Qun, Doujianshao had unconsciously learned Sword Dance. It was surprised, but now spun even more nimbly, blue miniature swords swirling around its body.
Doujianshao’s attack power surged dramatically!
Finally, under Miss Qun’s lead, the sudden “dance party” came to an end. The Pokémon, still eager to play, gathered together, laughing and chatting.
Through this dance, Caomiaogui grew closer to the others—and learned a light, swift step.
Guang Tai watched Caomiaogui’s bouncy, tapping steps—and information surfaced in his mind.
‘Caomiaogui learned the move: Drafting!’
It really learned it!
“Learning moves through dance—Miss Qun’s teaching is incredibly effective. Instant results.”
“So, Miss Qun—”
‘Miss Qun learned the move: Guidance!’
“So that’s how it works!” Guang Tai nodded, as if confirming his suspicion.
Miss Qun had a natural gift for teaching—and she could learn the move “Guidance.”
Guidance—through proper and rational instruction, boost the attack and defense of all allies!
Looks like I should call her Miss Guidance now!
But in daily life, when carving, it’s Doujianshao who teaches Miss Qun—and yet the student learned the teaching move.
Speaking of which, with Miss Qun’s dancing skill, she’d likely place well in a Pokémon Show or Performance Contest, Guang Tai mused.
“Alright, since the dance is over, let’s get to work.”
Guang Tai also possessed spiritual knowledge; under his control, the still-flying papers drifted back into his hands.
This trick of controlling paper would surely draw attention—if anyone saw it, since spiritualists weren’t common!
As Guang Tai thought this, information appeared in his mind.
【Rare Material: Supernatural Paper.】
【Description: Though ordinary paper, it has absorbed vast supernatural energy, becoming a special supernatural item. Sometimes it flies around, but nothing happens.】
【Learned Craft: Unique Supernatural Illustration Craft (C+): Writing exaggerated text or drawing on supernatural paper, combined with spiritual energy, creates illusions that confuse readers. Ghost-type Pokémon adore such items. Bound into different book styles, they may produce varied supernatural effects.】
He turned to the floating notebooks.
【Crafted Item: Spirit Communication Notebook.】
【Description: Originally an ordinary notebook, now infused with supernatural energy.】
【Craft Effect: Spark Inspiration—While holding this notebook, one unconsciously generates fantasies that may spark inspiration. But writing down these fantasies slightly drains one’s life force.】
“Of course—anything related to ghosts drains life force.”
Guang Tai recalled how, when he first obtained Doujianshao, its description said it absorbed life.
The pen and ink in the room had also become spiritual items—their effects: anything written or drawn caused mild fear or hallucinations.
This was a common trait of supernatural items!
“So this is what the client meant—spending too long with ghost companions caused the notebook to become spiritual. No wonder the client was a novelist.”
“Spiritual notebooks spark inspiration—though with side effects. Not something for ordinary people.”
Guang Tai fetched dark cardboard. For safe transport, the outer cover would remain ordinary material—otherwise, the goods might fly away mid-delivery. He didn’t want his delivery Charizard to file a complaint against him.
He began binding some of the supernatural paper.
There were many bookbinding styles; Guang Tai chose hardcover, using stiff cardboard covered in fabric, thick paper, or calf leather, with a square spine—this style was not too thick, suitable for books under 20mm.
【Crafted Item: Square-Spine Spirit Communication Book (Hardcover).】
【Description: A supernatural book capable of holding any writing. Carefully bound, its altered form of supernatural paper produces unique effects.】
【Unique Effect: Soul Affinity—Writing or drawing the name or image of a Ghost-type Pokémon increases its bond with the holder. The holder perceives ghost energy more clearly and calms fear. For those susceptible to spiritual corruption and with weaker constitutions, holding this book greatly improves their soul and physical condition.】
“It affects both spiritualists and those tormented by spiritual energy.”
Guang Tai placed the bound Spirit Communication Book on the workbench. Doujianshao was the first to approach—it felt a soothing energy from the book, unlike the usual turbulent supernatural currents. This energy was gentle, calm.
“This is the power of books—cultivating the soul and spirit,” Guang Tai murmured. Then he wondered: Could this power arise from this “idealistic” concept?
Idealistic phenomena and objects weren’t rare in the Pokémon world.
Changing the shape altered the flow of energy, producing different effects—this made sense.
“Good thing I didn’t make a Death Note.”
Guang Tai muttered to himself, then began carving the Crystal Lightfire Spirit statue.
“Yōū~”
Doujianshao’s two blades were already primed!
“Yōū~”
It had just learned Sword Dance. Would combining Sword Dance with Psychic Blade enhance precision and efficiency in carving?
Hearing this, Guang Tai glanced at the stone—he’d brought in several pieces. If Doujianshao wanted to try…
“Go ahead and try?”
“Doujianshao, use Sword Dance, then carefully unleash Psychic Blade—carve the general shape according to this image.”
Guang Tai showed Doujianshao a photo of the Crystal Lightfire Spirit.
Doujianshao stared, then suddenly blurted out.
This Pokémon is also a ghost? But it’s shaped like a household item—just like me! A kind of stand-in!
