Chapter 236 - Doubts...

~6 min read 1,019 words

Currway quickly spotted Ryan. He changed forward, and stabbed his claws into his breastplace. Staring into his eyes, Currway looked more like a demon than ever before.

His body had countless broken or fallen scales, and every single inch of him was covered head to toe with the marks of countless injuries. From blunt blows, to sharp slashes, to piercing shots. Additionally, every single patch of him was red and inflamed from the countless irritants he was forced to endure.

"Void Sphere!" Lumi took the opportunity while Currway was preoccupied with Ryan to use his spell.

Currway didn’t even acknowledge it. A decent spell, perhaps, but nothing like the orbs from before. He let out a low growl, and swiftly pierced through Ryan’s torso with his claw. To his surprise, there was nothing that stopped him this time.

Every time he had previously tried to kill someone that seemed important, he would always be stopped by the blood sacrifices of others. This time...

[Ryan has died.]

Currway immediately lunged out of the Void Sphere which had been ticking inside him.

Lumi let it dissipate, and immediately teleported out, just in time, since Currway had just slashed a claw though there.

Currway looked around. He didn’t see Lumi anymore. He was tired, too tired. He was sure that in his peak state, he’d be able to instantly spot the magician and rush over.

Why couldn’t he find him...

Currway stood among the scattered warriors, breathing hard. How many had it been? How many had he killed?

He’d killed...a hundred fifty...? Perhaps more? It wasn’t as if he knew. And yet, despite everything, they just kept coming.

How was this possible?

He was at the very peak of the Third Rank, nearly entering Fourth Rank. They were mostly First Rank, a few at low Second Rank.

The power gap should be insurmountable.

But the sheer amount of them...

No, it wasn’t just about the numbers. He’s slaughtered villages before with ease. Nothing like this had happened before.

It was also that for some mysterious reason, they didn’t fear death...

That made them brave enough to do anything. Anything at all in order to get a get even the slightest injury on him, even if it meant throwing away their lives.

It was the most terrifying thing he had ever seen in his long life. A thought began to creep into his head...

He wouldn’t win this, would he?

As soon as the thought creeped into his mind, he rejected it violently.

No! He could never die like this! He was a powerful and feared demon, he was sealed away for a reason! He never, could never die to a bunch of nobodies that he himself brought in!

The thought was impossible. He was a powerful being of the Third Circle! How could he lose his life to these weaklings?!

Despite his pride, despite his arrogance, despite the sheer implausibility of everything happening...

The thought kept creeping up.

He was losing. All he had to do was take one look at himself. All the damage he had taken. He was bleeding from every spot on his body, and his regeneration couldn’t keep up.

He was exhausted, and yet the enemy wasn’t stopping.

He would di-

"NO!" He violently rejected the last part of the thought that came to mind.

He charged forward, abandoning all pretense of defense. The bowmen and magicians scarmbled as he approached. He didn’t mind. He caught whoever he could, crushing a bowman into meatpaste with one swipe of his hand, and his maw racing out to bite a magician in half.

His claws swept through warriors and thieves in wide arcs, each swing killing at least one, often more. He continuously swept his tail violently, to deter and kill any would-be flankers. Of course, the endless aggression exacerbated his injuries as he sustained more and more damage.

Yet, it worked. The death toll spiked dramatically.

[Sena Botor has died]

[Sowaro Siatar has died]

[Axeley Matar has died]

[Sapar Spensor has died]

[Bowak Kwar has died]

[Sfar Ras has died]

[Egg Ses has died]

[Make War has died]

[Hamses Teses has died]

[Kennen Kemmem has died]

In just a couple seconds, Currway had managed to slaughter ten more players. Yet this was entirely what he was thinking about earlier. It didn’t even matter. Twenty players rushed in to replace them, not even hesitating at the carnage.

One warrior actually laughed as Currway’s claws pierced his chest, punching through his breastplate like paper. "Worth it! I touched a demon with my bare hands!"

[Soup Society has died]

Currway’s mind still couldn’t understand, neither from the beginning, all the way til now. Why were these humans the way they were? They were insane. Not a few of them, but literally every single one of them.

Humans weren’t supposed to act like this. Self-preservation was the most basic instinct that every single living being that existed had. And yet, these humans were the exception. They smiled as they died, even speaking casual last words to each other as if none of this mattered.

They spoke such meaningless nonsense.

"I got him! Did you see!?"

"Nice! My turn!"

"FOR THE EMPRESS!"

"LUMI’S GUILD IS GOING TO BE LEGENDARY!"

The warriors charged in once again. Right behind them, eight thieves attacked simultaneously, each from a different angle, each targeting a different weak point.

He slashed at two of them, watching them activate their Dark Sight to escape. Currway stalked their lifeforce, tracing the invisible thieves until they were forced out, then he finished then with a piercing blow.

"Ghh..." He felt the daggers enter his flesh. It was merely a dull pain at this time. He barely bled. He didn’t have the blood to excessively bleed anymore.

He dropped to the floor, and kicked out with his legs, catching two thieves off guard, shattering their internal organs.

The death toll had surpassed two hundred.

Yet, even as he actively killed, he was still being struck by blows. His movements were growing sluggish. Each swing of his claws took more effort.

Existing was becoming difficult.
