Chapter 104: Kun Kun Reappears
The most nauseating thing was that dozens of broken metal tubes were haphazardly stuck into its body, and the tube openings dripped a viscous, foul-smelling dark green liquid. Its skull was horribly deformed, its mouth split open to the ears, revealing two rows of shark-like densely packed sharp teeth; its eyes were completely murky blood-red, with no pupils, only frenzied killing intent. A strong stench of blood mixed with the pungent smell of some chemical agent instantly filled the entire space.
"Ugh—ahhh—!" the monster roared again, its sound wave making the glass wall buzz.
It moved. Its speed was unbelievably fast, utterly unlike the agility expected from its massive body. The few black-clad guards closest to it hadn't even had time to raise their guns before being swept aside by its huge claw.
"Crack!" The sound of breaking bones was clearly audible. Flesh and blood flew everywhere.
The monster seemed to have no target, merely venting its savagery. It charged into the remaining guards, claws waving; each strike brought a wind of blood and gore. Screams, gunshots, and the sounds of breaking bones mingled into a one-sided massacre.
"Run! Run fast!" Chief Liu, terrified out of his wits, his fat body bursting with surprising potential, scrambled and crawled toward the direction of the blown-open gate.
Zhou Mu's reaction was no slower; he broke free of Zhang Jun's hand, enduring the sharp chest pain, and staggered after Chief Liu. His only thought now was to leave this hell on earth!
The monster's crimson eyes seemed to lock onto the moving target. It suddenly halted its slaughter of the guards, let out a low, threatening growl, twisted its massive body, kicking up a foul wind, and in an instant caught up to Zhou Mu, who had fallen behind.
"No—!" Zhou Mu only managed to let out a desperate scream.
The monster's huge claw pressed down on his upper body, while the other claw grabbed his legs.
"Screech—!"
After a sound like tearing cloth came a grating noise of flesh and bone separating. Zhou Mu was torn alive into two halves, his entrails and blood splattering across the floor.
Chief Liu turned and saw this scene, his legs went weak, and he collapsed straight onto the ground, the front of his pants quickly becoming wet, a foul odor spreading.
The monster dropped Zhou Mu's mangled corpse and stepped toward the limp Chief Liu, emitting a satisfied, chewing-like sound from its mouth. It lowered its head and opened its jaws, filled with sharp teeth…
Zhang Jun and Lin Xue stood back to back, their hearts sinking to the depths. This monster's power far exceeded their imagination.
"Its target is us." Lin Xue's voice was icy, the chill at her fingertips already condensed to the limit.
After dealing with Chief Liu, the monster's unfocused blood-red eyes slowly turned toward Zhang Jun and Lin Xue. It seemed especially sensitive to the pure yang and profound yin emanating from them, letting out an excited, greedy growl from its throat as it stepped closer.
An intangible pressure, like a tangible weight, pressed heavily upon them.
"Attack!" Zhang Jun shouted low, launching the first strike. His pure yang power exploded without reservation, the wind of his fist carrying a scorching heat wave straight at the monster's chest!
Lin Xue struck at the same time, her form ghostlike as she moved to the monster's flank, cold air bursting from her palm as she struck at its lower ribs!
"Bang! Thud!"
Their attacks landed almost simultaneously. Zhang Jun's fist felt like hitting tough leather, only making the monster stagger slightly. Lin Xue's chill did make the monster's movement pause, but on its bluish-gray skin only a thin layer of white frost formed, quickly dispersed by the monster's own emanating yin-cold energy.
"Roar!" Enraged, the monster swung its thick arm, bringing a force of thousands of pounds in a horizontal sweep.
Zhang Jun and Lin Xue hastily dodged. The monster's arm slammed into the nearby console; the alloy console instantly warped and deformed, sending sparks flying.
The two launched another combined assault, alternating bursts of scorching pure yang and freezing profound yin, trying to find the monster's weakness. But its regenerative ability was astonishing; its wounds healed at visible speed, and it seemed to feel no pain, its attacks growing ever more frenzied and reckless.
In the fierce clash, Zhang Jun's internal pure yang power was greatly depleted, Lin Xue's face grew ever paler, and sustaining her profound yin output weighed heavily on her. Though their powers could briefly fuse and amplify in the short term, against this nearly indestructible monster it was like a drop in the bucket.
In another hard clash, Zhang Jun was slapped away by the monster's claw, striking the glass wall; his throat felt sweet, a mouthful of blood nearly spurting out. Lin Xue was also shaken, stumbling back repeatedly, the monster's claw wind gouging a deep, bone-revealing wound on her arm, the cold unable to instantly staunch the flowing blood.
The monster pressed step by step, its blood-red eyes locked firmly on the two, its greedy hue intensifying.
Desperate straits.
Zhang Jun leaned against the wall, panting, watching the approaching monster, various thoughts flashing through his mind: Mo Tianhe's warning, Su Muqing's concern, the secret of Snow Mountain, Kun…
Kun!
That beast bone!
He thrust his hand into his chest, feeling the rough, warm bone. Kun had said to crush it.
Without the slightest hesitation.
Zhang Jun exerted his last ounce of strength, his five fingers snapping shut with force!
"Crack!"
A clear cracking sound rang out in the chaotic laboratory, faint yet seeming to carry some strange penetrative power. The beast bone turned to powder in his palm.
Almost at the same moment.
A vague black shadow appeared out of nowhere between Zhang Jun and the monster, as if seeping out of the air itself.
A black windbreaker, its hood pulled low to cover most of the face, revealing only a hard, angular chin. It was Kun.
The moment he appeared, the whole space seemed to freeze.
The originally berserk, bloodthirsty monster that had charged forward unstoppably suddenly froze in motion; for the first time, a hint of… fear? appeared in its blood-red eyes. Its massive body even shrank back slightly, and it let out an uneasy growl from its throat.
Kun stood there without turning his head, as if the terrifying monster behind him were nothing more than a bothersome bug. His gaze swept past the monster to land on the disheveled Zhang Jun and Lin Xue; his look was calm, yet carried an aloof indifference as if looking down upon all creation.
He moved.
He merely lifted a hand casually and gave the monster a light wave.
There was no earth-shaking sound, no dazzling brilliance.
But the monster was as if struck head-on by an invisible mountain; its massive frame shuddered violently, then toppled over like a puppet with its strings cut, hitting the ground hard and kicking up a cloud of dust. Its limbs twitched a few times, trying to rise, but an irresistible force pinned it down, rendering it immobile, able only to emit a whimper of reluctance and fear.
The whole process was light and casual, like brushing away dust.
Only then did Kun slowly turn and walk toward Zhang Jun.
He stopped in front of Zhang Jun, looking down from above.
"I told you not to die." His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an icy quality that struck Zhang Jun's taut nerves. "I didn't bring you here to die."
"These muddy waters aren't something you can wade through now."
