Chapter 75: Backlash Resonance: Survival in the Desperate Situation of Dragon Spring Cave

~7 min read 1,209 words

"It means that the two of you combining your power can purify the energy contaminated by chaos, including that inside Lin Zhen's body."

Zhang Jun and Lin Xue exchanged a glance, both feeling that something was off about this.

"Nonsense," Zhang Jun snorted, "Why should I believe you?"

Lin Yan didn't get angry, pulling from his combat uniform pocket a data disc the size of a fingernail cap: "Here is all the evidence I've collected, including Lin Zhen's initial research notes and his behavioral records after contamination."

Clone Wang Jun extended his mechanical hand to take it, the fingertip splitting open to reveal a data interface, which he plugged in directly.

The red light in his eyes flashed quickly for a few seconds.

"The data model matches closely. The content is indeed Lin Zhen's early research direction."

"Where is Lin Zhen now?" Lin Xue asked urgently.

"He activated the backup plan." Lin Yan's expression grew grave, "He selected five key points worldwide and built small energy converters. Once all are activated, the effect will be similar to that big guy in the underground city, enough to open a dimensional gate."

"Five points?" Zhang Jun's heart skipped a beat, "Where are they?"

"Lofty Mountain Dragon Spring Cave, Himalayan Mountain Range, Bermuda Triangle, Antarctic Point, and the deep Amazon Rainforest. He has already activated two—Lofty Mountain and the Himalayas."

Clone Wang Jun quickly gave the calculation result: "At this speed, he has at most 72 hours left to activate the remaining nodes."

Zhang Jun clenched his fists until they cracked: "We'll have to split up."

Lin Yan shook his head: "No. You and Lin Xue must be together. Only the resonance of your two energies can shut down the already-activated nodes."

"What about the rest?" Lin Xue pressed.

"I'll handle monitoring," Clone Wang Jun volunteered for the task, "My body can withstand extreme environments, so the Antarctic Point is most suitable for me."

Lin Yan nodded: "I'll take the Amazon. Bermuda goes to the two of you."

Zhang Jun looked at Lin Xue.

Lin Xue didn't hesitate much, nodding firmly: "First we'll go to Lofty Mountain and the Himalayas to shut down the activated ones, then head straight to Bermuda."

"There's still a problem," Zhang Jun turned to Lin Yan, "How do we shut it down?"

"Use this." Lin Yan handed over a palm-sized metal disc, its surface covered in dense, incomprehensible runes: "The technique I learned there can reset the energy flow. But it must be activated simultaneously with the Primordial Bloodline and Ice Soul Power."

Zhang Jun took the disc, feeling it slightly heavy in his hand, a strange vibration tingling at his fingertips, and even the Heaven-Man Sword gave a faint hum.

"Time is short." Lin Yan's tone grew grave, "Each node Lin Zhen activates expands the chaos energy's influence on Earth by a notch. Now violent incidents and extreme emotions worldwide are on the rise."

Clone Wang Jun confirmed: "In the past 48 hours, global violent crime rates have risen 27%, and indiscriminate attacks have increased 35%."

"Chaos energy first affects emotional control," Lin Yan explained, "Anger, fear, and hatred get amplified, ultimately leading to the collapse of social order."

Zhang Jun and Lin Xue exchanged glances again, this time each seeing the other's resolve.

"When do we leave?" Zhang Jun asked.

"Now," Lin Yan replied, "My plane is right outside."

The three followed Lin Yan out of the garage.

Sunlight fell on Zhang Jun's face, warm and cozy; he narrowed his eyes, feeling the surging, turbulent power within him that was no longer violent. It felt as if it had grown into his body, becoming part of him.

Lin Xue walked beside him, her Ice Soul Power flowing quietly within. Between them, an invisible thread seemed to connect, their energies resonating silently.

"Do you really believe that alien-energy-saving-the-Earth nonsense?" Lin Xue asked in a low voice.

Zhang Jun shrugged: "Half-believe it. But I believe this much—Lin Zhen that old dog must be stopped."

"Even if it means mingling with some alien energy?"

"It's already mixed," Zhang Jun touched the scar left by the barcode on the back of his neck, "Feeling… okay? At least I won't have to worry about bleeding to death anymore."

Lin Xue silently pursed her lips.

The deepest part of Dragon Spring Cave.

The air was viscously thick, frightening; inhaling made it feel as if his lungs were weighted down.

The purplish-black mist drifted like a living thing, slowly brushing the rock walls, leaving behind a trail of sizzling corrosive marks.

The source of the mist was that huge metal lump embedded in the mountain wall—Lin Yan called it the "Domain Beacon."

Its surface was etched with twisted, eerie symbols, flashing an evil purple light.

Zhang Jun gripped the metal disc Lin Yan had given him, the numb, tingling vibration in his palm growing stronger.

The closer he got to the beacon, the more intense the vibration became.

The nascent Primordial Power within his body also went haywire, surging wildly through his veins, and the barcode scar on the nape of his neck burned with a piercing pain.

"Just this broken disc, a tuner?" Zhang Jun shook the thing in his hand, turning to ask Lin Yan.

"Right, but you and Lin Xue need to channel energy into it together." Lin Yan's mechanical eye flashed red nonstop, scanning the surroundings, "Hurry, the chaos radiation here is off the charts—stay too long and your brain will fry."

Lin Xue stood beside Zhang Jun, her complexion paler than usual, the silver patterns on her cheeks flashing in tandem with her breath.

Her breathing was also unsteady; this environment clearly suppressed her Ice Soul Power.

"Just how do we do this?" Zhang Jun shook the disc again.

Lin Yan pointed to the spot at the beacon's center where the light was brightest: "Attach it, and you two simultaneously pour energy into it. The Primordial Bloodline and Ice Soul Power will find their own balance, forcing the beacon's energy circuit to twist over."

"That sounds easy," Zhang Jun muttered, though he had no confidence.

The power in his body was strong, yet utterly unfamiliar, completely uncontrollable, feeling like he was riding a mad bull that could throw him at any moment.

Lin Xue suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist.

A cool sensation traveled up his arm, touching the purple energy within his body, then inexplicably softened.

"Focus, don't let your mind wander," Lin Xue whispered, pressing her fingers with a bit of force, "Your energy is all over the place—don't provoke this thing's defenses."

Zhang Jun grunted, inhaling.

The two moved forward.

The disc vibrated more violently, like a living thing, nearly jumping out of Zhang Jun's hand.

Lin Yan stared from behind, his voice tense: "Hurry! The energy fluctuations are off—there might be an automatic defense!"

Zhang Jun and Lin Xue locked eyes, said nothing, but both understood.

The two almost simultaneously reached out, pressing the disc firmly onto the beacon's pulsing purple‑black core.

"Infuse!"

Two utterly different forces surged into the disc—Zhang Jun's side was a frenzied purple storm, while Lin Xue's side was a bone‑scraping frost.

The runes on the disc lit up instantly, guiding the two forces to intertwine and fuse.
