Not only was Three Palaces 2 left unfinished, but the Three Palaces also faced censorship.

Many readers came to know Zhangyu starting from the Three Palaces. Because of that setback, Zhangyu decided to temporarily stay away from historical topics. In 09 he switched to urban fiction, began writing Medical Official Path, and after four years of writing, the book eventually reached a satisfactory ending regardless of the outcome. Next came Food and Lust, which died at 1.7 million words, shattering Zhangyu's urban dream.

Given the current web fiction landscape, many authors flock to the more lucrative xianxia fantasy genre; Zhangyu had also considered switching to earn more under the condition that his health allowed. But after long thought, he discovered there still lay a deep‑seated plot in his heart: his alternate‑history dream, which he had always wanted to fulfill by making up for the Three Palaces' regret.

Zhangyu decided to rewrite history, choosing a niche where peripheral rights are unprofitable and even obscure. Economically, being affected is inevitable, but compared to Zhangyu's longtime dream, it amounts to nothing.

He opened the project in August; to date it has reached two million words. As a part‑time writer, Zhangyu asks himself whether he has been diligent and responsible, and finds he is no inferior to many professional writers.
