Chapter 118: You Still Say You Have No Feelings for Her?

~8 min read 1,476 words

Monday morning classes were full, the first two periods in the afternoon were PE, and the last two periods had no class.

After PE class ended, time was tight, Xia Xi ran to the classroom for the interview.

By the time she arrived, many people were already in the classroom; she stood at the doorway, out of breath, smoothed her hair, raised her hand and knocked, hearing a "come in," Xia Xi pushed open the ajar door.

A quick glance showed tall, long-legged beauties standing in several rows, very pleasing to the eye.

Xia Xi had no time to admire, quickly found a spot to stand, and subtly adjusted her breathing.

After a short wait, everyone had arrived, and the interview began.

Xia Xi admitted she had previously underestimated this basketball competition; even just the cheerleading tryouts were this serious.

She felt a bit uneasy, because the first few interviewees all said they were from the dance team, casually showing a few moves that were astonishing; performing a little cheerleading dance was therefore no problem for them.

Xia Xi regretted not having learned dance properly as a child.

When her family signed the three sisters up for interest classes, they fully respected each girl's preferences; she had no interest in dance, never touched it, and signed up for violin and piano, plus taekwondo.

Xia Xi's strength is confidence; when it was her turn, she walked calmly to the front, her proportions not inferior to those of the dance team girls; she had just learned a few moves and demonstrated them, lacking flexibility but making up for it with a pretty face, which gave an aesthetic impression.

The person in charge passed her.

After everyone finished interviewing, the final list was announced on the spot, totaling 13 people. This was selected according to the choreography, with one person in the center position and six on each side.

"The next question is to choose a captain, that is, the C position—who wants to?" The person in charge was quite democratic; whoever wanted to could become captain.

Xia Xi lacked the ability, but that didn't stop her from vying for herself; after the person in charge finished speaking, she immediately raised her right hand.

The person in charge drew Xia Xi's form from a stack of information sheets, then another: "Xia Xi and… Zhao Yinshu? You two discuss and see who would be more suitable as captain."

Xia Xi stood on the left, leaning her neck forward to look to her right; a girl also raised her hand, presumably Zhao Yinshu mentioned by the person in charge. Xia Xi's thought was simple: the person in charge asked who wanted to be captain, she raised her hand if she wanted; now seeing someone stronger step forward, whether she becomes captain or not doesn't matter.

The captain position naturally goes to the most capable.

She had an impression of Zhao Yinshu; during the interview just now, the dance segment she performed was especially good, likely practiced.

Xia Xi voluntarily withdrew: "Then let her be captain."

No sooner had she finished speaking than Zhao Yinshu didn't even glance at her, her arrogant voice ringing out: "No need for you to yield. Since we both want it, let's compete fairly with a public vote! So no one can say I, Zhao Yinshu, can't take losing and bully newcomers."

She is also a third-year student, having participated in cheerleading several times over the past three competitions and even served as captain; it's only fitting to call her a "veteran," whereas Xia Xi, joining for the first time, is naturally a newcomer.

Xia Xi: "?"

She already said she doesn't want to be captain; does the other person not understand?

Xia Xi was quite certain she had never met Zhao Yinshu before, so there should be no grudge; why is Zhao Yinshu so hostile toward her? Could Zhao Yinshu also be one of Xu Yanfeng's admirers?

Aside from that reason, Xia Xi couldn't figure out why Zhao Yinshu was targeting her.

The person in charge didn't intervene in the captain selection, still letting them work it out internally, only reminding them to hurry up and practice the dance.

Xia Xi left the interview classroom empty-handed; it was still before dinner time, she sent a message in the dorm group asking where Zhao Lei and the others were, learned they were out shopping and planned to have dinner outside that evening, so she changed course to walk toward the school gate and take a taxi to meet them.

Zhao Lei: "Did the interview end? How did it turn out? I was afraid to disturb you earlier, so I didn't contact you."

Xia Xi: "Passed."

Wu Qinglu: "Great."

Wang Qiuyu: "I knew you'd definitely make it!"

Xia Xi smiled and put her phone away.

Several cheerleading members gathered around Zhao Yinshu, gossiping behind her back about Xia Xi.

"Laughable, how could she possibly have the nerve to compete with you for captain with that skill level? Who gave her the guts, Liang Jingru? I've never seen a girl with thicker skin than hers—she publicly confessed to Xu Yanfeng and failed, and rumor has it she's still clinging to him, flirting with him in the library."

Zhao Yinshu lowered her head to admire her newly done nails, smiling magnanimously: "I already said we'd compete fairly, so don't talk about her. If you truly don't want her as captain, then vote for me."

"Rest assured, we'll definitely vote for you."

"Can't wait, I'm voting now!"

After walking a few steps, Zhao Yinshu stopped, smiling and waving at a few people: "I've made plans to go shopping with someone, so I won't walk with you anymore, bye-bye."

After parting with them, Zhao Yinshu wiped the smile from her face, took out her phone to call her close friend: "Where are you waiting for me? The milk tea shop at the school gate? OK, I'll be right there."

Zhao Yinshu, walking and talking to her friend about the cheerleading captain selection: "I never expected Xia Xi to show up for the tryouts—she's walking right into the gun barrel. Xiaoyu, if Xia Xi dares to bully you, I won't let her off. This time I'll definitely let you vent your anger, make her lose face big time."

From the phone came Zhou Xiaoyu's cheerful voice: "How should I thank my good sister? Come quickly, I've got your milk tea ready."

Zhao Yinshu let out a light "hum": "No need to be polite with me."

Zhou Xiaoyu said: "By the way, send me that voting link you guys made, I'll vote for you."

"Wait."

Zhao Yinshu hung up, opened WeChat, and sent the voting link to Zhou Xiaoyu.

The voting interface showed the current tally: she had fifty-something votes, while Xia Xi had only a single-digit number, a huge gap.

Because the voting had just started, many people still didn't know about it; those fifty-something votes were from other cheerleading members and the people they'd recruited, and later Xia Xi would definitely also rally people to vote for her.

Xia Xi is so unpleasant, her social connections are terrible; no matter what, she could never surpass her.

Zhao Yinshu seemed to already hear the sound of Xia Xi's face being slapped, pap-pap.

This is how she helps her good friend Zhou Xiaoyu vent—through intuitive data letting Xia Xi realize how inadequate she is, and also giving the whole student body another reason to laugh at Xia Xi.

By evening, the news that Xia Xi and Zhao Yinshu were competing for cheerleading captain had spread across campus.

"These days, picking a cheerleading captain requires a vote?" Someone sent the link to Chen Mian's phone; he shouted in the dorm, then casually forwarded the link to the Sushe 503 group: "We've got to cast a vote for our junior Xia Xi."

"You mean Xia Xi junior is running for cheerleading captain?" Fang Huaiyuan caught the key point in Chen Mian's words, then glanced in a certain direction: "She wouldn't be doing this for our Young Master Xu, would she?"

Yu Tingbo voted for Xia Xi: "No need to say more—our Feng is a mainstay of the basketball team."

Xu Yanfeng shut down his computer, picked up the phone on the desk, and, as if possessed, opened the voting link in the group; the red side was a girl named Zhao Yinshu, the blue side was Xia Xi.

The result was obvious at a glance—the red bar far exceeded the blue.

Xu Yanfeng was about to exit, but his finger slipped and he cast a vote.

He froze, pondering how to cancel that vote, when suddenly a head stretched over from the side and shouted loudly: "Ha! I caught you—you actually voted secretly for junior Xia Xi! And you said you have no feelings for her!"
