Chapter 225: I saw through her long ago

~8 min read 1,509 words

Xu Yanfeng didn't believe it, sat still without moving, only his face looked much worse.

"Do you think I'm lying?" Tang Yizhou pointed at his own face, his trust with Xu Yanfeng couldn't be that low, could it?

Xu Yanfeng: "You can shut up now."

Tang Yizhou felt aggrieved: "Even if I'm unreliable, would I joke about something like this?"

What kind of love potion did that woman Xia Xi give Xu Er that he doesn't even take his close brother's words seriously?

Tang Yizhou wouldn't just let it go; he grabbed Xu Yanfeng's arm, vowing to drag him out to check that private room: "Come with me, you'll see for yourself whether I'm lying."

Xu Yanfeng pulled his arm away, his voice carrying a warning: "Tang Yizhou, know when to stop."

Tang Yizhou almost wanted to kneel before him: "What do I have to do for you to believe me?"

Xu Yanfeng's face turned icy: "If you say another word, we won't be friends anymore."

"I..." Tang Yizhou felt the words stuck in his chest, almost suffocating himself.

The others just watched for fun, not taking Tang Yizhou's words seriously. Fu Li mocked him: "You've had enough, quit it."

"You also think I'm joking?" Tang Yizhou glared at Fu Li, his gaze sweeping over the others: "No, do you all think I'm making up nonsense?"

Fu Li grabbed his shoulder and pressed firmly, signaling him to stop talking nonsense, and gave him a perfect excuse: "I don't think you're joking; maybe you're drunk and mistook someone."

"Damn it." Tang Yizhou laughed angrily: "Do I look like I'm drunk?"

Ling Yan silently observed Tang Yizhou; at first she didn't believe him either, but seeing his anxious effort to prove himself, which didn't look like an act, she gradually believed a bit. She rolled her eyes, glanced at Xu Yanfeng—his face looked bad—and she didn't dare speak up for Tang Yizhou, fearing to provoke him.

Tang Yizhou repeatedly adjusted his breathing, telling himself not to get angry, to stay calm; the more provoked he became, the more suspicious he seemed. He softened his tone, saying: "I'm completely sober; I'm sure that's Xia Xi, and the guy with her wore a black windbreaker and ripped jeans, looking very young, definitely not an elder. Most importantly, they were holding hands, extremely intimate!"

By the end he still couldn't control his emotions, his tone heavy, spit flying as he spoke.

Ling Yan fully believed his words; she didn't want to miss this opportunity. If Xia Xi really cheated, would Xu Yanfeng still be with her? No man could tolerate his girlfriend making such a mistake; the answer was definitely no.

She decided to take a chance, clenched her fists, and carefully said: "Why don't… we just take a look? So Tang Yizhou doesn't misunderstand Xia Xi." She cleverly shifted the blame to Tang Yizhou.

Tang Yizhou, being an idiot, had no idea what scheme they were plotting, and kept nodding in agreement: "Yeah, let's just take a look! If I'm wrong, I'll kneel and kowtow to apologize to Xia Xi."

Xu Yanfeng remained unmoved, trusting Xia Xi completely: "I've said you've had enough."

Tang Yizhou was so anxious he jumped up and down, frustrated and angry at Xu Yanfeng's immovable attitude—he'd never seen anyone more stubborn; just taking a look wouldn't cost his life.

Ling Yan saw Tang Yizhou standing with hands on hips, silent, thought he might give up—that wouldn't do—so she used reverse psychology: "Tang Yizhou, think again—could you have mistaken the person?"

Tang Yizhou's competitive spirit was ignited; he was determined to catch them in the act, to let Xu Yanfeng and everyone present see Xia Xi's true face. He told Xu Yanfeng: "Wait, I'll have someone bring the key to that private room right away."

"You've gone too far." Fu Li grabbed him: "Have you considered that if the room holds someone else, barging in like that—how would you explain it?"

"If an apology's due, apologize; if compensation's due, compensate." Tang Yizhou shoved him aside and called the hotel manager.

The manager soon arrived; hearing his request, his face showed difficulty: "Young Master Tang, this is against policy, involving customer privacy and safety—if they call the police, I'm done for."

Tang Yizhou was seething, kicked a stool: "All this nonsense—otherwise I…" He suddenly paused, a flash of insight struck him, he slapped his forehead: "I'm really stupid; we don't need to open the door—checking the surveillance would work, right? Go pull the hallway footage for this floor and send it to my phone."

The manager breathed a sigh of relief; as long as this ancestor didn't let him take the key and open other customers' rooms, everything could be discussed: "I don't know which time period Young Master Tang wants."

Tang Yizhou said: "Ten minutes ago."

The manager stepped aside, called the surveillance room's supervisor; soon a video clip was sent to his phone—he didn't watch it, forwarded it to Tang Yizhou, having completed his task, he wiped his sweat and left.

Tang Yizhou first glanced at it himself; the hotel's surveillance equipment was top-notch, the footage crystal clear, his face gradually showing a confident smile as he turned the phone screen toward Xu Yanfeng, with the spirit of a liberated serf singing: "You won't even fail to recognize your own girlfriend, will you?"

Xu Yanfeng's eyelids twitched slightly, his gaze falling on the screen.

A man and a woman stepped out of the elevator; the woman wore a black pullover, a black pleated skirt, and a brown fisherman's hat; the man was tall, indeed matching Tang Yizhou's earlier description, wearing a windbreaker and ripped jeans.

The two leaned against each other intimately, the woman linking her arm with the man's.

That woman was Xia Xi; from the moment she stepped out of the elevator, Xu Yanfeng could be certain—until she took off her hat and her face was revealed, there was no doubt.

Tang Yizhou didn't know the man beside Xia Xi, but Xu Yanfeng did—he was her childhood friend, Zhou Du.

Zhou Du's feelings toward Xia Xi were complicated; even he couldn't tell whether he liked her or something else.

Tang Yizhou snorted, relishing the vindication: "What did I say?"

While Xu Yanfeng watched the video, the others also looked on, silent, their glances flicking toward him. Does Xia Xi have an older or younger brother? Otherwise, there's probably no better explanation for her behavior.

How miserable Ling Yan had been before, now she was equally triumphant; she struggled to suppress her rising lips, murmuring softly: "Tang Yizhou really didn't get it wrong."

Tang Yizhou's tail went up to the heavens: "Did any of you believe me just now? I knew that woman was unfaithful!" His face bore the words "the only sober one while everyone else is drunk," his tone inevitably rising: "I saw through her long ago—she uses tricks to snag Xu Er on one side while flirting with other guys on the other, making money and enjoying the attention of many admirers; behind the scenes she's probably smugly pleased, showing off everywhere, even the lofty Xu Yanfeng has fallen into her hands."

Fu Li gave him a look—hadn't he seen Xu Er's bad mood? Couldn't he say a few less words?

Too bad Tang Yizhou didn't notice his hint, and kept chattering on.

Fu Li simply shoved him: "Stop talking."

Tang Yizhou was displeased: "She did something so shameless and won't let anyone talk about it? Earlier I had no evidence, so no one believed me; now the facts are right before our eyes, I have to speak."

Ling Yan's lips twitched almost imperceptibly; Tang Yizhou truly was her mouthpiece, saying everything she wanted to say.

She wondered, if Xia Xi was two-timing and Xu Yanfeng caught her, could they still stay together?

Xia Xi was asking for trouble—she already had Xu Yanfeng, what more could she want, yet she cheated. Maybe she's naturally promiscuous, loves to lure guys in and watch them fall for her.

Ling Yan felt it was a waste for Xu Yanfeng; how could he like a girl like that?

After all, Xia Xi is just too skilled; Xu Yanfeng is sharp in other areas, but clueless about feelings, so being attracted to her is quite natural.

Fortunately, finding out her true colors now isn't too late.

She hasn't lost yet; she still has a chance.

Xu Yanfeng didn't know how he had knocked on that door, nor how to describe his feelings at this moment. He still wanted to believe Xia Xi, thinking she might have been roughhousing with her childhood friend and absentmindedly let her hand rest on his arm.

"Why keep knocking? You should have listened to me earlier—get someone to fetch the key and open the door." Tang Yizhou was even more urgent than him; he stepped forward, gripped the handle and pushed down. Though he hadn't held out hope, the door swung open just like that, and he himself blinked: "Huh? The door isn't locked."
