Chapter 335
"How could this be?" Liao Wanhua hurriedly sought confirmation, "The owner of this villa didn't choose me? Where is he? I want to talk to him face to face. Whatever style he wants, I'll do my utmost to satisfy him, I guarantee he'll be pleased."
"Professor Liao, let me say..."
"Wait, I want to ask who the owner chose?"
"It... it's Professor Xia."
Liao Wanhua was shocked and angry, looking at the calm Xia Xi, barely controlling her expression, realizing the camera was always recording, she forced a smile: "I still want to talk to the villa owner. The director also said it's a two-way selection, proving we can negotiate."
"Professor Liao, the villa owner insists on Professor Xia." The staff member responsible for communicating between the two apologetically smiled at Liao Wanhua.
Liao Wanhua was utterly petrified; she never expected that among the few people, the least competitive Xia Xi would snatch the house she had her eye on. Liao Wanhua unwilling: "I haven't even communicated with the villa owner, how could it be decided?"
The staff, helpless, went to ask the director, got permission, and arranged a meeting between Liao Wanhua and the villa owner.
Liao Wanhua immediately went to another meeting room, with one cameraman following her.
She pushed open the meeting room door; a man in a black suit sat at the table, hearing the door open, he lifted his gaze, seeming slightly surprised, his brows furrowing for two seconds.
He thought he would meet Xia Xi.
Xu Yanfeng's eyes showed a hint of puzzlement; he had said he chose Xia Xi, could the staff have misunderstood?
Liao Wanhua quickly adjusted her expression, gave a proper smile, walked over, extended a hand: "Hello, may I ask your surname? I am Liao Wanhua, chief designer at Yunzhu Design Company."
"Hello, my surname is Xu." Xu Yanfeng nodded, politely shaking her hand.
"Mr. Xu, I've seen your villa; the layout is excellent. Whatever style you want to change to, I'm confident I can faithfully realize your vision." Liao Wanhua sincerely said, "Please give me a chance."
"I don't even know what style I want to change to." Xu Yanfeng said.
Liao Wanhua didn't understand.
Xu Yanfeng: "It also depends on my wife's opinion; she doesn't really like the current style."
Liao Wanhua froze for a moment, then realized the man before her was a husband who loved his wife: "You can call your wife; I'll talk to her. I won't let you down."
"Sorry, I already have a designer in mind." Xu Yanfeng said calmly.
Liao Wanhua felt stifled, her chest tight, almost unable to breathe; she had spoken until her mouth was dry, yet the other remained unmoved. She still wore a welcoming smile, trying to persuade him to change his mind: "Mr. Xu, I hope you give it careful thought; I can..."
Xu Yanfeng lifted his wrist to check his watch, pressed his thin lips, and said softly: "Sorry, I'm short on time; I have other things to do."
Liao Wanhua left the meeting room dejected, her mood a bit unsettled, but in front of the camera she showed no displeasure, shrugging self-deprecatingly: "Maybe I just don't catch Mr. Xu's eye."
The houses selected by the other designers also underwent changes; after coordination, that villa was ultimately renovated by Xia Xi, while the house Xia Xi had originally chosen ended up in Liao Wanhua's hands.
Next came communicating with the owner, site inspection, delivering design plans, carrying out construction and renovation... pretty much the usual workflow.
Under the staff's guidance, Xia Xi came to outside a meeting room; her breathing grew a bit hurried, she gripped the door handle and pushed it open slowly. The man seated there wore the white shirt and black suit she knew well; that morning when they parted at the door, he had still been in casual home attire, his hair soft and limp, laid-back and carefree, but now his hair was neatly combed, giving him an extraordinary bearing.
Even though Xia Xi had braced herself, seeing him here she still couldn't stay calm, her heart pounding; she didn't even know how she had walked in, perhaps she was moving mechanically.
Xu Yanfeng actually showed up in person!
Wouldn't he just send someone instead? Like when he had Guan He pose as the owner to trick her into signing a contract... No, that's not the point; why would he sign up for this variety show?
The chair opposite Xu Yanfeng had already been pulled out, the one Liao Wanhua had sat in earlier; Xia Xi sat down, clasped her hands together on the table, and stared blankly at Xu Yanfeng.
How should I greet him? Should I pretend not to know him? That would be too weird.
But if we don't act, wouldn't their relationship be exposed?
Xia Xi's mind was a tangled mess; finally, when Xu Yanfeng showed her a smile, she couldn't hold back and whispered: "What's going on? Why are you here?"
After asking, she realized the camera was pointed at them both; Xia Xi felt like she was about to break, she scratched her head and turned to the cameraman: "Cut this part." She emphasized, "It must be cut."
Cameraman: "..."
Xu Yanfeng cleared his throat, speaking concisely: "This show is sponsored by the Xu Clan; you didn't know? I'm here as the Xu Clan's representative to lend support." He said it righteously, as if his presence here held no self-interest.
Xia Xi was dumbfounded.
She had been muddledly pushed by Lu Mingji to join a variety show, and now she had to investigate the show's sponsor? Of course she hadn't paid attention!
Xia Xi stared straight at Xu Yanfeng, muttering: "Does the Xu Clan have no one left? Do they need you, the CEO, to come as a representative to support the show."
Xu Yanfeng chuckled, continuing to justify his actions: "As the boss, I naturally ought to put some heart into the sponsored show; I can't leave everything to my subordinates."
Regarding Xu Yanfeng appearing on the show, Xia Xi could never understand or stay calm; she tried to convince herself to stay calm and treat him as an ordinary client, but her cultivation wasn't enough, she couldn't: "You doing this on the show, aren't you afraid..." She glanced at the cameraman getting closer, helplessly pressed her forehead, sighed, "Afraid our relationship will be exposed?"
Xu Yanfeng, on the contrary, didn't hide like she did, openly asking: "Is our relationship something that can't be seen? Why are you so afraid?"
"It's not that..." Xia Xi ran out of words, "Forget it."
They chatted idly for a long time, still not getting to the point, with no one interrupting, until after a while someone nearby interjected: "Sorry, I just wanted to ask, do you two know each other?"
Before Xia Xi could speak, Xu Yanfeng raised his eyebrows and answered first: "This is my fiancée."
Xia Xi's eyelashes twitched; she silently thought, "It's over."
All the effort she had previously put into feigning ignorance went down the drain at this moment.
Xia Xi lifted her head, firmly demanding of the cameraman: "Can this part also be cut? Let's get straight to the point and discuss how to renovate this villa." Having said that, not giving Xu Yanfeng a chance to speak, she smoothly continued: "Mr. Xu, right? What style do you want to change to? We can first discuss it briefly, then go to the villa for inspection, and later work out the details."
Xu Yanfeng's eyes slightly curved as he gave a light smile: "That's up to you."
Xia Xi felt a lump in her throat, wanting to punch him. The composure she had barely regained shattered again at his four words; he had won, she had lost her composure: "Xu Yanfeng!"
The cameraman holding the equipment nearby was shaken by the shout, quickly steadying the heavy gear on his shoulder, lest it fall.
Xu Yanfeng, however, was in high spirits: "Huh?"
