Chapter 382: You didn't even give me two more glances

~9 min read 1,661 words

Xu Yanfeng got into the passenger seat, then hung up the phone showing "In Call" in his hand, grabbed Xia Xi's wrist, lifted her up and held her on his lap.

Wait a moment, the car window...

Xia Xi struggled to crawl back, closed the car window so the cold air wouldn't escape.

Xu Yanfeng held her again, pinched her chin, and pressed his lips to kiss her.

Xia Xi was overwhelmed, her eyelashes fluttering like a butterfly's wings; after a moment, she matched his rhythm, wrapped her arms around his neck, and lifted herself up for him to kiss.

For nearly a month Nancheng had hardly any rain, the air was dry, yet inside the car it felt like a hot rain had fallen, making the skin feel scorched from being drenched.

Xia Xi's fingers slipped into his short hair; after a while, unconsciously they slid down, she hooked her hand around his neck again, and her palm was lightly bumped by his stiff collar.

He bit her lower lip, then Xu Yanfeng reluctantly pulled back, their foreheads touching, the breath he blew onto her face scorching like the sun outside the car. Xia Xi was even more "disheveled" than he, her chest rising and falling, panting nonstop.

"This is..." Xia Xi wanted to remind him, her words broken, "the roadside."

Not afraid of being seen by others.

Xu Yanfeng leaned back against the seat, lowered his head to look at her, with an air of it being natural, his eyes holding a lazy, satisfied smile: "This is in the car."

"What's going on in the car?" Xia Xi countered.

The windshield is transparent; anyone passing by the front of the car can glance and see everything clearly.

In broad daylight.

Xu Yanfeng's fingertip brushed over her lips; she wasn't wearing lipstick, but her lip color was vivid red, like congestion. His fingertip traced her lip corner, then moved down, wiping away the sweat beads hanging on her fair neck.

His gentle, slow movements inexplicitly revealed his desire for her.

Xu Yanfeng always had an excuse: "You said you missed me, I have to show something." The rest of his words he spoke close to her ear: "If we changed locations, it wouldn't stop at just this."

Xia Xi used her hand to pinch his lips, forcing him to shut up, and tried to steer the conversation to a serious direction: "Have you eaten?"

Unable to speak with his mouth, Xu Yanfeng shook his head.

Xia Xi was amused by his frustrated expression, released her hold on his lips, and said: "I'll treat you."

Xu Yanfeng raised his eyebrows, readily agreeing: "Thank you, wife, for the meal."

The smile on Xia Xi's face deepened; she struggled back to the driver's seat, composed herself, then drove off.

"Didn't you go to work this morning?" Xu Yanfeng pulled out the seat belt and fastened it.

He knew she had gone to the hospital this morning to buy medicine for Su Jinru; buying medicine shouldn't take much time.

Xia Xi said: "I didn't go, I ran into something."

Xu Yanfeng looked at her: "What happened?"

Xia Xi told him about running into Miao Yijia at the hospital this morning, furrowed her brow, and asked him: "You said she's pregnant with Chen Songbai's child, so why would she abort it?"

Xu Yanfeng cut to the chase: "Could it be that the child isn't Chen Songbai's?"

Xia Xi thought the same, but she just needed someone to agree with her. Hearing Xu Yanfeng say it, she felt more confident that her judgment was correct.

"She mentioned bars and guys on the phone, so she had a child with someone else and wanted to find a father for the child, thus setting a trap for Chen Songbai?" As soon as she finished speaking, Xia Xi shook her head, negating herself: "No, if that were true she wouldn't abort the child."

"Don't think about it." Xu Yanfeng reminded softly, "Focus on driving."

"..."

Xia Xi focused on driving the car to the hotel Xu Yanfeng had designated.

Xu Yanfeng opened the menu, ordered food, and also ordered for Xia Xi, who was looking at her phone.

He handed the menu to the waiter, looked at Xia Xi, and asked: "What are you looking at?"

"I'm looking for Chen Songbai's number, to ask him if he knows whether Miao Yijia has a friend named something Dan Yan..."

Xu Yanfeng snatched the phone away; Xia Xi lifted her gaze, her throat feeling as if it were blocked.

Xu Yanfeng: "Let's talk after the meal. Can you focus a bit while having dinner with your husband?"

Xia Xi: "..."

Xu Yanfeng put the phone away, tapped his fingers lightly on the table: "You said you missed me, yet I haven't seen you give me even two more glances."

Xia Xi: "..."

How can a married man, when jealous, not distinguish right from wrong and just eat his jealousy indiscriminately.

The restaurant in this hotel is famous; even at noon on weekdays it's fully booked. Xia Xi ate while looking at the man across from her; after finishing, she rested her chin on her hand and continued to stare at him.

Noticing her gaze, Xu Yanfeng licked his lips, set his fork aside, took a sip of warm water, and asked: "What's up?"

Xia Xi's voice was soft, her smile obvious: "I'm not just looking at you more because you told me to, right? You're still asking. What's there to ask?"

Xu Yanfeng choked on the water, covered his mouth and gave a low cough.

"How did you still choke?" Xia Xi said concernedly, then pulled out a tissue and handed it to him.

Xu Yanfeng wiped his mouth, didn't pick up his utensils again. Xia Xi glanced at her watch; there was still some time before afternoon work: "Done eating? Let's go."

This meal was paid for by Xia Xi; she took the receipt the waiter handed her, casually folded it into a square, held it in her palm, walked to a trash can to throw it away—before she could retract her hand, Xu Yanfeng grabbed it.

He took her hand and walked forward.

After a while, Xia Xi realized something was off, pointed in a direction and said to him: "The exit is over there; did you remember wrong?"

Xu Yanfeng kept a straight face: "You're the one who remembered wrong."

This was Xia Xi's first time here; she didn't fully trust her own judgment, muttering to herself: "Really? But I remember it being that place..."

Xu Yanfeng led her into the elevator; as it rose floor by floor, Xia Xi's expression hesitated, her feeling of something being wrong peaked: "No, why are you bringing me upstairs?"

Upstairs are the hotel rooms, right?

Xu Yanfeng remained silent until the elevator stopped at the 26th floor; he pulled a room key from his trousers pocket, swiped it to open a suite's door—Xia Xi didn't even know when he had booked the room.

Xia Xi didn't have time to escape; she was practically shoved into the suite by him, the door closing with a loud click beside her ear. In an instant, her back was pressed against the door panel, his body tight against hers, squeezing her, a more intense kiss than in the car rained down like a sudden shower. Her heart also seemed to be squeezed, beating that fast.

Unable to find a gap to speak, Xia Xi covered his wildly kissing lips, caught her breath, and said: "Why are you like this? I still have to go to the company this afternoon." She had agreed with Huang Shiyu to help her polish the renovation plan for the coffee shop that afternoon.

Xu Yanfeng gripped her wrist, moved the hand covering his lips away, and kissed her palm: "There's enough time."

"Enough what enough," Xia Xi didn't believe his words.

Xu Yanfeng scooped her up, hand supporting her buttocks, walked toward the bed, not giving her a chance to change her mind.

Indeed, she shouldn't have trusted Xu Yanfeng's words; Xia Xi rushed through her shower and put on her clothes, then after a while glanced at the time.

Compared to her, Xu Yanfeng remained calm for a long while, fastening his belt unhurriedly: "I'll take you to the company."

"No need," Xia Xi said. "I'll drive myself."

Xu Yanfeng raised his eyes, gave a meaningful smile: "Can you still drive?"

Xia Xi tidied her hair, then gave him a glare in the mirror.

Unable to insist, in the end Xu Yanfeng drove, taking her to Broad and Elegant, but she was late.

At the appointed time, Huang Shiyu didn't see Xia Xi come to the company, nor did she call to urge her; she first refined the plan herself.

Xia Xi hurried into the office, sat down to catch her breath, then called Huang Shiyu over: "Sorry, something came up and delayed me."

Huang Shiyu noticed a fresher shower gel scent, like lemon with ice cubes; she didn't think much of it, placed the laptop she was holding on Xia Xi's desk: "I just made a small change; it's not finished yet."

Xia Xi: "No rush, you go ahead; I'll look after you finish."

Huang Shiyu said "Okay," then picked up the laptop again and found a spot in her office to work calmly.

Xia Xi poured two cups of water, placed one beside Huang Shiyu, who looked up, smiled, and said "Thanks," then buried herself in work.

She spent the whole afternoon in the office; at quitting time, Xia Xi walked while holding her phone to call Chen Songbai. This call should have been made to Chen Songbai at noon, but Xu Yanfeng interrupted her, and afterward she never found a suitable time, putting it off until now.

From the other end came a mechanical female voice: "The user you are dialing is currently on another call."
