Chapter 43: Why pull hair again?

~7 min read 1,341 words

Xu Yanfeng raised his arm, shook off her hand, and no longer showed any courtesy: "You think I'll still believe your words?"

"I didn't lie to you!" Ling Yan stumbled back a step; she was wearing a pair of seven-centimeter high heels today, almost fell, steadied herself by holding the table edge, then urgently spoke in her defense: "I did have bad thoughts, but in the end I did nothing—what do you want me to do to make you believe me?"

Xu Yanfeng wore a silent expression.

His attitude is set; even if she speaks flowery words, he firmly believes his judgment.

Two million have already been transferred to someone else's card—what else does she have to quibble about? "I called you over today just to ask clearly face-to-face; from now on there's no need to meet again, do as you please." Xu Yanfeng stood up, took his suit jacket, folded it over his arm, gave her no glance, and left decisively.

"No, you can't treat me like this." Ling Yan's tone held not only grievance but also panic; she chased after him and grabbed Xu Yanfeng, humbly begging: "A Feng, I was wrong, I apologize to you—I shouldn't have had someone follow you; I was too scared, I'm afraid you'll be bewitched by Xia Xi again and get hurt. I can swear to heaven, if that paternity test report is fake, I'll get hit by a car and die when I go out!"

Xu Yanfeng furrowed his brows, his gaze fell on the hand gripping his clothes: "Let go."

Tears blurred her vision; Ling Yan kept shaking her head, refusing to let go.

She clearly knows that once she lets go, Xu Yanfeng will never turn back.

Ling Yan's eyes filled with bitterness, driven to desperation, she began speaking without restraint: "What's so good about that Xia Xi? She's just a shameless woman—back then she had two lovers, now she brings two illegitimate children back to seduce you; why do you still have anything to do with her? That kind of woman should just die; she doesn't deserve to live in this world!"

Xu Yanfeng's eyes were icy; he didn't want to say another word to a lunatic who'd lost reason, he firmly stepped forward, pulled his clothes from her hand, and left the private room.

Ling Yan's palm felt empty; she desperately grasped at air, but caught nothing.

She could no longer support herself, she slumped embarrassingly onto the floor, her exquisite makeup and hair becoming a mess.

In her blurred vision, Xu Yanfeng's figure grew farther and farther away, just like that time in the hotel's underground parking lot—she chased after him, only able to see his car flashing red taillights, no matter how hard she tried she couldn't catch up.

Ling Yan pounded the ground, wailed loudly: "Why don't you believe me? Why!"

Initially she indeed wanted to swap the paternity test report, give Xu Yanfeng a fake one, so he would know he and Xia Xi's child have no blood relation, and thus he wouldn't still be thinking about Xia Xi.

After investigation, Du Bingchen had recently lost a lot of money in stock trading, making him easiest to bribe, so she targeted him.

Indeed, after some negotiation, Du Bingchen couldn't resist the money temptation, agreed to help her handle this matter, with a reward of two million.

The report requires signatures from two judicial appraisers to be valid, so before the appraisal result comes out, it can't be tampered with; only later can one find a chance to swap it with a fake. Such things customers generally don't doubt authenticity—once confirmed, who would retest? That's also why Du Bingchen dared to take the risk.

But the final DNA test result showed Xu Yanfeng and that child are not parent‑child—there was no need to swap the report at all! Du Bingchen still had some integrity, didn't conceal it, and reported the situation to Ling Yan.

Upon learning this result, Ling Yan was furious, cursed herself for being clever but backfiring; she had firmly believed those two children of Xia Xi were Xu Yanfeng's, took this risky move, hoping no one would discover it.

After she calmed down, a surge of joy rose in her heart—the child not being Xu Yanfeng's is exactly the result she wanted, isn't it?

Xia Xi bore another man's child—what right does she have to marry Xu Yanfeng?

They have no possibility.

Ling Yan waved her hand, the two million also not needed—just treat it as a reward for Du Bingchen, thanking him for bringing her such good news. Anyway, to her two million is just a bag. After the matter settled, she no longer let those people monitor Xu Yanfeng. Such things will eventually be discovered; better to be cautious.

Everything was proceeding as she expected, unknown where a leak occurred, but Xu Yanfeng actually knew about this matter…

Ling Yan returned home dazed; Ling Mother was waiting for her daughter's good news, hearing the door she immediately rose to greet—who knew she'd see her daughter's hair disheveled, makeup completely ruined, both eyes red and swollen, a bit puffy, obviously she'd cried a long time.

"How, how did this happen?!" Ling Mother's voice was sharp, almost shouting hoarse.

Ling Yan flung herself into her embrace, hugging her and crying loudly: "Xu Yanfeng… he said he never wants to see me again, what should I do? Mom, what should I do? How can he be so cruel to me?"

Ling Mother furrowed her brows: "You two argued?"

Ling Yan shook her head a moment, nodded a moment, couldn't speak clearly.

"Could it be because you brought up marriage, he refused and wants to break up with you?" Ling Mother loved her daughter dearly; seeing her cry like a tearful person already pained her, thinking of this possibility she flared up: "Wait, I'll go talk to him now—there's no such thing! If he doesn't give you an explanation, I'll go find Xu Guanshan to reason, let's see how he educates his son."

Ling Mother wasn't just talking; after saying that she turned and walked out.

Ling Yan grabbed her arm, sobbing uncontrollably, just kept shaking her head.

Ling Mother's face dark with anger, resenting her lack of ambition: "Xu Yanfeng treats you like that, you still block me? Are you going to swallow this silent loss? I tell you, impossible! My daughter cannot be bullied and still endure; even if I offend the Xu family I'll get you an explanation!"

"Mom!" At this point Ling Yan knew she couldn't hide anymore, had to tell the truth: "I and Xu Yanfeng have never been a boyfriend‑girlfriend relationship!"

Ling Mother widened her eyes, incredulous: "What are you saying?"

"It's true." Ling Yan pressed her palms to her eyes, shoulders shaking, choked: "He repeatedly distanced himself; it was my overestimation, thinking someday I could move him, causing you misunderstanding."

She looked down on Xia Xi, hated Xia Xi, yet ended up learning from her, using clingy tactics to find opportunities to appear beside Xu Yanfeng. But she wasn't bold enough, couldn't do what Xia Xi did back then, destined not to replicate her success.

*Monday morning, Yucai Kindergarten, in the principal's office, a surprised female voice rang out: "Why pull hair again?!"

"Speak softer, don't let others hear." The principal furrowed her brows, "Maybe something went wrong last time; I'm not sure, but since that big boss requested it, just do as told."

Having experienced the previous incident, Song Laoshi knows refusing is useless, sighed silently, and went to the classroom.

During recess, the class chattered like a flock of sparrows.

Song Laoshi looked around, seeking Youyou's figure; not seeing her in the classroom, she grabbed a child and asked where Youyou went—the child said maybe she went to the bathroom.

Over there still waiting, Song Laoshi had no choice but to change target to Zi Heng, waving at him: "Xia Ziheng, come over a moment."

Song Laoshi is also quite tired oh
