Chapter 80: As it turned out, his name was Xu Yanfeng

~9 min read 1,707 words

After spacing out for a long time, Xia Xi slowly moved her body, while recalling the earlier accident, she took a shower, then changed into the clothes she had been wearing, and took a car back to school.

In the taxi, she eagerly shared the incident with Liang Yuan.

Liang Yuan didn't care how handsome the guy she mentioned was; she only worried about her condition: "Are you okay? Why didn't you get a coach to accompany you? Just thinking you almost drowned makes my heart thump."

Xia Xi felt a bit touched: "If something had happened, I couldn't have messaged you. I didn't get a coach mainly because I think I swim well enough, so I don't need one."

Liang Yuan confirmed she was fine, then turned her attention to another point: "Is that guy really handsome?"

Xia Xi gave an affirmative reply: "Really handsome!"

Liang Yuan hadn't seen the person, so she couldn't imagine: "Do you have a photo?"

Xia Xi: "None."

Xia Xi: "At that moment, my mind was blank; I didn't even think to take a photo."

Liang Yuan: "You didn't even ask for contact info?"

Speaking of that, Xia Xi was utterly speechless: "I did ask, but he didn't even finish listening to my words before turning and walking away."

Liang Yuan immediately flared up, speaking up for her close sister: "Damn, is he even a man? He rejected you? Does he have something wrong with his eyes?"

Xia Xi's face is a lethal weapon—few men can resist it, and even fewer women can stand it; yet someone rejected her. After Liang Yuan vented her anger, she grew even more curious about him: "Just how handsome must he be?"

Xia Xi held her phone against her chin with both hands, recalling the guy's appearance once more in her mind; it was indescribable, no description did it justice, so she finally answered Liang Yuan: "Handsome enough to make my little heart thump."

Liang Yuan: "???"

Liang Yuan: "This year's earth-shattering news—eternally wooden Xia Xi has finally felt a stir in her heart! Unbelievable!"

Xia Xi didn't reply; she was pondering whether this counted as being moved, since she had never liked anyone before and had nothing to compare it to. If she really were moved, it seemed a bit hasty?

Liang Yuan didn't wait for her continuation; she became unsettled and bombarded her with several messages.

Liang Yuan: "No way, sis, do you really like him?"

Liang Yuan: "Love at first sight? Could this happen to you? I just can't believe it."

Liang Yuan: "Have you heard of the suspension bridge effect? I think you're in that situation."

Liang Yuan: "When you're near drowning, adrenaline surges and your heart races; you just happened to meet that guy, mistakenly taking that physiological reaction for a flutter of the heart."

Liang Yuan: "I advise you to calm down and not get too deep."

Xia Xi read her messages one by one, curled the corner of her mouth; aside from her biological sister, Liang Yuan was the one who cared most about her. She replied "I know," put away her phone, and the taxi just arrived at the school gate.

*In the dorm, the three girls woke up; today is Friday, and classes don't officially start until next Monday, so everyone is idly playing games, binge-watching dramas, and scrolling through group chats, feeling quite content.

Zhao Lei had just joined a large group for the Architecture Department; someone in the group posted photos of handsome guys—several candid front and side shots. Zhao Lei flipped through them, thinking they were divine, and wanted to share with her roommates. She sat up to see Wu Qinglu wearing earphones and playing a game, while Wang Qiuyu was on the phone with her family.

Only Xia Xi had nothing to do; she sat on a chair beneath her bunk, feet resting on the chair's edge, her skirt sliding up to reveal dazzlingly white long legs, her black hair swept to one side of her neck, her profile beautiful and smooth. She was holding nail clippers, trimming her toenails.

*Click-clack, click-clack. *

This unkempt look was stunningly beautiful, like a painting.

Zhao Lei stared for a few seconds, forgetting what she wanted to say, until a group message chimed "ding-dong," reminding her; she then climbed down from the bunk and slipped into her slippers.

"Xia Xi, want to look at some handsome guys?"

Zhao Lei excitedly waved her right hand, which was holding the phone.

Xia Xi wasn't interested in handsome guys; in her view, most men called "handsome" rely on clothing and atmosphere to create the impression, with genuinely good-looking features being rare.

Moreover, she had already seen a genuinely handsome guy today, making her even less interested in others.

"From our school?" Xia Xi asked without lifting her eyelids, lacking interest.

Zhao Lei grew anxious, grabbed Xia Xi's arm, and shoved the phone in front of her: "I swear I've been single for ten thousand years—this is a truly handsome guy; I've never seen anyone this stunning in my life!" Having said that, Xia Xi decided to give her face, lazily tilting her head, lifting her eyelids, and glancing at the phone screen.

Just that glance, and her soul seemed to flutter away.

Seeing Xia Xi frozen like she'd been acupointed, Zhao Lei laughed, delighted to rarely see Xia Xi look at a man like that: "How is it? Is he especially handsome? I'm not bluffing you."

"Which handsome guy? Let me take a look." Wang Qiuyu, having finished her call with family, heard Zhao Lei's laughter and curiously glanced over.

Zhao Lei was about to hand the phone to Wang Qiuyu when Xia Xi called out: "Wait, wait..."

She wanted to snatch the phone, but as her hand reached out she remembered she had just touched her feet without washing; she darted to the bathroom, squeezed two pumps of hand soap, washed her hands, wiped them with a face towel, took Zhao Lei's phone, and enlarged the photo.

The guy sat in the library, eyes slightly lowered as he read; sunlight slipped in from a side window, a thin layer falling on his face, gilding his black hair with a golden edge, as if a deity had descended to the mortal world.

This, this isn't the guy who saved her at the swimming pool, is it?

Talk about leaving no stone unturned and finding it with no effort! Xia Xi's eyes lit up instantly; she excitedly stared at Zhao Lei: "Where did you get this photo? Is this guy from our school? What's his name? Which major and class?"

Zhao Lei was dazed by Xia Xi's barrage of questions; after a moment, half-serious, half-joking, she said: "No, you're usually pure-hearted and desireless—why are you suddenly so interested in a guy? Have you really fallen for him?"

Xia Xi urged: "Answer me first."

Zhao Lei: "I happened to see the photo in the group, thought he was handsome, so I brought it to show you; I don't know any other information."

If she had known this handsome guy earlier, she certainly wouldn't have kept it secret; good things should be shared to benefit the dorm sisters.

Wang Qiuyu still lay on the bunk, eyes pleading, reaching out a hand with an expression akin to Er Kang's: "Has anyone heard my call? I also want to see a handsome guy—just give me one look."

Xia Xi still monopolized Zhao Lei's phone, her mouth uttering the same two words: "Wait."

Wang Qiuyu: "..."

Xia Xi scrolled through the group messages; those few photos sparked a bunch of divers, someone asked the same question as she did, and an informed user replied below.

"You don't even know him? Xu Yanfeng, senior in the Architecture Department. Have you heard of the Xu Clan Group? It's his family's business—he's not only handsome, but a bona fide rich second-gen."

Xia Xi's heart raced; she had actually obtained his information so easily.

As it turned out, his name was Xu Yanfeng.

Xu, Yan, Feng.

Xia Xi silently rolled those three syllables over her lips and teeth, the corner of her mouth twitching slightly; she committed the name to memory.

The group messages kept refreshing; someone below raised a new question: "No way, I'm a junior this year—if he's one year ahead, then when I was a freshman he'd have been a sophomore, so I should have seen him at the old campus. How come I've never heard of this person?"

The informant continued: "Oh, I forgot to mention—Xu Yanfeng doesn't just study Architecture; he also double-majored in finance and law, and never stayed at the old campus."

Xia Xi's smile never faded; this Xu Yanfeng is quite the academic ace.

She still hadn't had enough, she returned the phone to Zhao Lei, letting her take it to give to Wang Qiuyu who was eagerly waiting, and incidentally asked Zhao Lei: "Which group is this? Pull me in too, thanks."

Zhao Lei pretended to twist her ankle: "Don't laugh at me like that, my legs are weak."

Xia Xi kept a smiling expression, crawled back to her own bed, just picked up her phone, and saw Zhao Lei's dear pull her into the Architecture Department's big group, but unfortunately the topic had already changed, no longer revolving around Xu Yanfeng.

The new semester's course schedule came out, and everyone was wailing.

"We're already juniors, yet they pack the schedule so full, do they even let people live?"

"Junior, once you reach senior year you'll know, the courses are still packed."

"Holy crap, four out of five days have 8 a. m. classes, I could just go die."

Xia Xi posted a message in the group, single-handedly pulling the off-topic discussion back: "Is Xu Yanfeng in this group? I just went through the member list and couldn't find him; does anyone have his WeChat or QQ?"

It was as if a bomb had been thrown into the group, with a boom, the whole group fell silent instantly.

Hahahahahaha the Xi Xi you saw before is the Xi Xi after becoming a mother, her temperament is much steadier; this period's Xi Xi is purely a big E person! (End of chapter)
