Chapter 92: My husband made everyone laugh
Xia Xi wished she could rush to the library at a hundred-meter sprint speed, but the three "tails" behind her were in for a bad time.
"Xibao, can you walk slower? Sis just finished dinner, I'm about to vomit."
"Don't block her; she's like a dog with a meat bone dangling in front of her eyes, unable to think of anything but charging forward."
"Is it really okay for us to talk about Xia Xi like this?"
"Anyway, her mind is full of Xu Yanfeng; she can't hear anything else."
While the three were secretly badmouthing Xia Xi, she suddenly stopped, narrowed her eyes, and looked back: "My hearing's fine, great."
The three gave an awkward laugh.
Finally reaching the brightly lit library, Xia Xi didn't feel tired at all; her legs moved like a motor, she scuffed up the stairs effortlessly, headed straight to the fifth floor, turned left, and entered the study room.
According to the coordinates provided by that classmate, Xia Xi quickly locked onto the sixth seat in the third row facing south.
There sat Xu Yanfeng, wearing silver-gray over-ear noise-canceling headphones, with a computer screen upright in front blocking half his face, several books and sheets of paper spread beside him, he was lowering his head to write and draw.
Sitting in the seventh seat next to Xu Yanfeng was a thin male student wearing silver-rimmed glasses, but his eyes sparkled like a monkey's; upon seeing Xia Xi, he raised his hand slightly, signaling her to look this way.
Xia Xi met his gaze and confirmed he was the classmate "Fa Falong" who had given her the information.
When she had chatted with him earlier, she scrolled through the chat history and discovered that this "Fa Falong" classmate had actually sent her a message before: "Wait, although I don't have any info on Xu Yanfeng, I've bumped into him many times in the library; next time I snag the seat beside him I'll definitely let you come over. Rich lady sis, wait for me!" That message was from him.
Unexpectedly, he followed through and really snagged the seat beside Xu Yanfeng for her.
Xia Xi stood inside the study room door, hand pressed to her chest, took a deep breath, adjusted her state, pretending she had come to study and just happened to run into Xu Yanfeng, not that she was seeking him out.
She walked over to Fa Falong's side; he too was a drama queen, pretending he'd finished studying, stood up, packed his things, and prepared to leave.
Xia Xi softly asked, "Classmate, are you leaving?"
The male student adjusted his glasses, nodded, pulled his backpack zipper, slung it over his shoulder, and left nonchalantly. Xia Xi seized the moment to sit beside Xu Yanfeng, took out her homework from her bag, and laid it on the desk.
Unfortunately, Xu Yanfeng didn't notice her presence; wearing headphones, he was immersed in his studies, and nothing from the outside could disturb him.
Xia Xi propped her chin and watched him; three minutes passed, and he still showed no reaction.
This can't go on.
She tore a sheet from her notebook, quickly wrote a line with her pen, and pushed it in front of Xu Yanfeng.
——Classmate, do you have a ruler? May I borrow it?
Xu Yanfeng saw the flourishing characters on the paper, his expression unchanged, took out a straight ruler and a triangle ruler from his pencil case, and casually handed them to the person beside him.
As his hand reached out, his gaze followed and landed on that person's face.
Xu Yanfeng froze.
He remembered that the person sitting beside him was a boy with silver-rimmed glasses; when had he become…… Xia Xi? Xia Xi chuckled, reached out to take the ruler from his hand, knowing he couldn't hear her speak, she mouthed: "What a coincidence."
Her eyes were smiling as she spoke.
Xu Yanfeng's face darkened, however; he didn't think this was a coincidence, sure that she had used some trick again. She always managed to appear before him in various ways, as if descending from the sky, making people suspect she knew magic.
In a setting like the library that requires quiet, it's not suitable for showing off, and Xia Xi hadn't planned to talk to him anyway; after greeting him she buried herself in her homework. Tomorrow she has many classes; if she doesn't finish part of the assignment today, it'll be hard to find time later.
Xu Yanfeng barely suppressed the irritability welling up in his chest, redirecting his focus back to his studies.
Sitting under the light, suddenly a moth about half the size of a palm flew in from somewhere, circling the lamp above his head a few rounds, likely stunned, and with a "pat" fell onto the back of his hand.
Xu Yanfeng's whole body nearly jumped up; the chair behind him scraped the clean tiles with a shrill sound, startling Xia Xi to turn her head—she saw him violently shake his hand, his expression grim, staring at the desk.
With that shake, the large moth landed on his pencil case, struggling and fluttering its wings, leaving a pile of dusty wing powder.
Xu Yanfeng removed his headphones and stood there motionless.
The library was extremely quiet; even the slightest sound is amplified, and when Xu Yanfeng shifted back just now, moving the chair produced such a loud friction noise, the commotion was truly not small, drawing the gaze of everyone in the spacious study room, puzzled.
Xia Xi stared at the moth frantically flapping its wings yet unable to take off, and suddenly recalled something. A few days earlier, an enthusiastic senior had told her that Xu Yanfeng fears moths; she had dismissed it then, thinking it useless. Now the sight made her want to laugh while feeling relieved, glad she knew Xu Yanfeng's current predicament.
Xia Xi pressed her lips, stood up, faced the various curious gazes around her, cleared her throat, and calmly said, "My husband has made everyone laugh."
Xu Yanfeng: "……"
Others: "……"
Xia Xi snatched up her textbook and swiftly slapped the struggling moth to death, silently reciting: "Sorry, big moth, I don't want to harm your life either, but for my male deity, I have to impose on you."
Then she took out a tissue from her bag, cleaned up the moth's corpse, and threw it into the large blue trash bin at the study room door.
Xia Xi walked back, saw Xu Yanfeng still wearing a wooden expression, and thoughtfully produced a pack of wet wipes, wiping clean the moth wing powder left on his desk, then handed him a pack of disinfecting wipes.
Fortunately, she had brought a full set of items—handkerchief tissues, wet wipes, disinfecting wipes, and no-wash disinfecting cards—so she was prepared.
Xu Yanfeng looked at the disinfecting wipes Xia Xi handed him, her earlier remark "My husband has made everyone laugh" still echoing in his mind; for a moment he felt both annoyed and indignant, his complexion pale while his ears turned red.
She actually knew……
How could she know……
Xu Yanfeng delayed taking the disinfecting wipes, so Xia Xi withdrew her hand, rummaged in her bag, pulled out a square blue-and-white small box, and softly said to him, "I still have a disinfecting card spray here; would you like it? It's no-wash."
"Thanks, but no need."
Xu Yanfeng refused, used his clean hand to close the laptop, gathered his books and papers, packed them into his backpack, leaving only the pencil case that the moth had touched on the desk, even though Xia Xi had already cleaned it.
Throughout he used only one hand, finished organizing his belongings, and walked off with his backpack.
Xia Xi glanced at the abandoned pencil case, then at his retreating back—was he not intending to take it?
The phone on the desk vibrated once; Xia Xi picked it up, and someone in the four-person dorm group popped up.
Wang Qiuyu: "How many more surprises do you have that I don't know? In front of so many people, what do you call Xu Yanfeng? Husband? Xia Xi, I still underestimated you."
Xia Xi: "He just spoke to me."
Xia Xi: "Four characters."
Xia Xi: "Thanks, but no need."
Xia Xi: "His voice is really nice; I could love him another hundred years."
Zhao Lei: "You're hopeless."
Wang Qiuyu: "You're hopeless."
Wu Qinglu: "You're beyond saving."
Xia Xi put down her phone, took over Xu Yanfeng's abandoned pencil case; since he didn't want it, it became hers. Also his ruler—she didn't know if he still wanted it, but the ruler hadn't been touched by moths……
Recalling how Xu Yanfeng had just jumped up in fright, then froze there motionless, she couldn't help but let out a "pfft" laugh.
It's truly rare to see him, who is usually so lofty, have such a down-to-earth side.
Xia Xi picked up her phone again and messaged the classmate nicknamed "cmbay11": "I really ought to thank you properly. I'd feel guilty not giving you money; otherwise, how about I treat you to a meal?"
The other party didn't reply, possibly they didn't see their phone.
Xia Xi felt today was a major breakthrough; she seized the moment, found Zhou Du on WeChat, and sent him a request for help.
Xia Xi: "SOS, there's something I can only ask you to help with."
Zhou Du, an idle person, always online: "What's up?"
Hahahaha... Xu Er's ears turned red, a good omen!
