Chapter 160: The Scorching Sun Shines (Part 1)
At this moment, in front of the caravan, twenty fully armed armored Warriors stood in two rows, not arranged tightly, but with slight gaps for movement; in front of them was a group of over a hundred Bandits.
The two sides stood in a stalemate for a while, and then, with the arrival of several mounted Bandit Leaders, the battle immediately broke out.
"Charge! We have more people, surround their caravan, don't let them run!"
Just as this Bandit Leader finished shouting, and while the hundred-plus Bandits in front of him were charging, a Large Arrow whistled, crossing the distance of nearly a hundred meters and accurately hitting the body of this mounted Bandit Leader.
His body was sent flying by the immense force of the arrow, but his right foot got stuck in the Stirrup; after he was flipped off the horse's back, he was caught by his right foot, and his whole body fell to the ground, being dragged by the running horse.
The slightly thin horse ran a few steps with an awkward gait, trampling the Bandit Leader—whose torso had been pierced by the arrow—a few more times, but the Bandit Leader had already fallen into a state of shock and unconsciousness from the heavy blow and did not react at all.
The horse, no longer being steered, slowed down and stopped, remaining right there on the noisy battlefield.
The other Bandit Leaders who had run past were frightened; they hurriedly lowered their bodies, using the massive heads and necks of their horses to shield their vision. Seeing that some of the surrounding Bandits were scared by this scene, they shouted loudly: "Don't be afraid! Charge, charge and those bows and arrows won't matter! Kill them!"
"Kill them!"
"Charge!" the Bandits shouted one by one.
After all, there were many of them, and the sound of over a hundred people shouting was earth-shattering; many who had originally seen the caravan standing in battle formation, and the armored Warriors standing in neat ranks in front of the caravan, felt timid in their hearts, fearing they would just go up and die for nothing.
But when their own side shouted in unison, that huge wave of sound suddenly gave them the Yongqi, making them raise their weapons high, shouting with their mouths, and quickening their pace to charge forward.
"Archers, fire at will!"
Jier's calm command was clearly heard amidst the earth-shattering shouts; in the wagons that originally carried the Warriors, the three-man teams of archers shot arrows randomly toward the areas ahead where there were many people.
They didn't care about accuracy; anyway, dozens of meters ahead, the ground was covered with enemies, and they just needed to shoot arrows quickly.
Some drivers also hid in the wagons, and seeing there were extra bows and arrows, they picked them up and shot randomly into the distance. Of course, the drivers occasionally participated in the Warriors' training, but Jier did not force them to practice anything, so they just trained in whatever they liked.
It is not to say that all the drivers could skillfully use the Soldier Bows in their hands, but at least they could manage to draw the bow and shoot correctly.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—
Uninterrupted waves of arrows were showered onto the Bandits charging at the front; because the arrows were not carefully aimed, the Bandits charging the fastest were hit in all sorts of places.
Some were unlucky, hit in the head by an arrow; the Bandits without a Helmet fell directly to the ground, were trampled over by others behind them, and became a human carpet.
Some were hit in the torso and immediately vomited a large mouthful of blood, but because it was not a vital spot, under the influence of their excited emotions, the Bandit struggled to continue charging, holding a Cleaver high above his head.
Others were hit in the legs and feet, falling directly to the ground; after being stepped on by others behind, the fallen Bandit shouted loudly: "Watch out, don't step on me, open your dog eyes and look clearly!" The others bypassed this unlucky Bandit and continued to charge forward.
The Soldier Bows were quite powerful, but the Bandits were more numerous; some injured Bandits crawled up from the ground, limping, and continued to charge, but when the fastest Bandits reached the Warriors, it was like a giant wave hitting a reef, instantly shattering into white foam.
"Shield-bearers! Prepare! Brace for impact!" Aoni, also one of the shield-bearers, stood in the center of the formation, where the pressure was greatest.
He shouted a command that only those nearby could hear; facing the hundred-plus people charging over, he took a deep breath, stood firm with his legs in a lunge, and lowered his posture.
Then the blades of the Bandits' Cleavers arrived.
The sturdy Soldier Shield easily blocked the hacking, but then came the Bandits' body slams, flying kicks, and heavy stomps.
Aoni's body swayed a few times, and his feet were pushed back about half a footprint on the ground.
Before the Bandits could continue to slam into them in an attempt to knock them down, the second row of Warriors immediately caught up, and the Battle Axes and blades in their hands hacked and stabbed out past the sides of the front-row Warriors.
In just one round, the well-prepared second row of Warriors killed some of the fastest Bandits.
The Battle Axes severed unprotected necks, leaving the Bandits' still-roaring heads dangling to one side. The blades followed the open collars of some Bandits who found the heat unbearable, stabbing directly into their abdomens, stirring once, and then pulling hard, causing a large pile of the Bandits' Viscera to fall out.
The injured Bandits who were not yet dead screamed in terror, but their bodies were slammed hard by the shield-bearers, causing them to flip backward and die on the ground.
The Bandits who followed behind continued to charge forward with terrified expressions, stepping on the bodies of their dead or dying companions, and once again slammed into the shield-bearers' shields. Of course, some bypassed the terrifying defensive line of the Warriors from the sides, but the archers and drivers on the wagons in the rear immediately shifted their targets, moving their bodies to face these guys who were bypassing the front.
Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh—
The high-angle shooting from the wagons dealt a heavy blow to the Bandits who had no means of defense; because this round of close-range shooting, including the drivers, was all fired after a quick, rough aim, nearly ten Bandits who tried to bypass were shot down at once.
Although they didn't die, the Bandits hit by arrows could hardly do anything; they either screamed after falling to the ground due to the pain, or pressed their hands against their wounds, struggling to crawl away from here.
The two loose rows of battle formation composed of Warriors harvested nearly twenty Bandit lives in two rounds, which caused the Bandits behind who hadn't charged up yet to slow their pace in terror, crowding together and not daring to advance again.
"You're all good-for-nothings! Watch me!"
A mounted Bandit Leader struggled to steer his horse to bypass his subordinates, charging straight at the Warriors' formation from an oblique angle; the impact of a horse could not be easily resisted by a Shield.
But before this Bandit, who was hugging his horse's neck and charging forward, could get close, a Heavy Crossbow Bolt was instantly fired from Jier's wagon, emitting a short, whistling sound along the way, and hit the charging horse from the side.
As if struck by an invisible heavy hammer, the charging horse paused and then flipped over; its right front leg near the body was caved in, and the Heavy Crossbow Bolt even pierced through the entire horse, flying out from the other side of the horse's belly while flipping and carrying a large amount of flesh and blood.
This mounted Bandit Leader was thrown directly off the horse, and after falling hard to the ground and rolling a few times, he landed right in front of Aoni.
Aoni, under his thick Iron Helmet, raised his eyebrows, grinned hideously, and swung his sword down with his right hand, shattering half of the Bandit Leader's head. This man was wearing a leather Helmet, which was why it didn't break his entire head.
However, the fallen horse still disrupted the Warriors' originally neat battle formation due to its speed, and the Bandits, enraged by the death of their leader, actually picked up other dead or dying Bandits, using them to shield themselves from arrows, and after getting close to the Warriors, smashed their companions' bodies against the front-row Warriors' shields.
"Shameless! An act without honor!" Weier couldn't help but curse.
Even so, it was very effective.
A large number of Bandits crowded together and pressed against the Warriors.
Jier immediately shouted: "Don't hold your ground, fight while retreating, cover each other, retreat to the caravan!"
The Warriors immediately had the rear row cover the front row, allowing the shield-bearing Warriors who were struggling to hold their ground to retreat backward. Jier stopped commanding at this moment; as they were about to enter a chaotic melee, his role in commanding was far less effective than personally going up to kill the enemy.
Especially behind these hundred-plus Bandits in the front row, other Bandits were gradually gathering into several groups; each of these groups had nearly a hundred people and were fast-approaching.
Relying solely on twenty Warriors to resist dozens of times their number of enemies was clearly unrealistic.
The opponent's superior numbers would clearly surround the entire caravan, but that was fine; let these Bandits see the terror of the Dwarf Warriors.
Jier squeezed the horse's belly; the warhorse, which had been fitted with Elf Metal Armor Plates, required him to squeeze harder to make Tianxuecao feel his command to advance.
"Neigh—" the warhorse neighed, seemingly sensing the fierce battle about to begin, and the whole horse became excited.
"Ha, what a bellicose little guy!" With a word of praise, Jier squeezed his legs with force, making the warhorse run.
Then he tucked the Dwarf Soldier Spear he was holding under his right armpit, gripped the Jiansheng with his left hand, and prepared to carefully adjust the warhorse's movement path, while the spear on his right side dropped slightly, its height from the ground just right to match the head and chest height of a normal person.
Jier charged past the side of the retreating Warriors, the tip of his spear just 'grazing' the neck of a Bandit on the very edge.
With just this simple 'graze', more than half of the Bandit's neck was neatly sliced open, and his head was dragged by the skin and Blood Vessel connected on the other side, swinging back and forth on his chest.
Under the momentum of Jier riding the horse and holding the spear, piercing a person's cervical spine with the tip of the spear was no different from poking through a piece of paper.
Jier didn't even feel any extra resistance from his hand.
After killing a Bandit, the Dwarf Rune hidden on the tip of the Dwarf Soldier Spear was activated, and the Sharp rune was immediately imbued onto the already sturdy and sharp spear tip, giving this Dwarf Soldier Spear even more power.
Do not underestimate this as a simple increase in sharpness; in reality, before this weapon was designed and crafted by the Dwarf Craftsman, it had undergone countless tests, and among the many Magic runes mastered by the Dwarves, they ultimately chose this simple yet highly effective 【Sharp】 rune.
Jier slightly adjusted the direction of his warhorse, not to crash into the crowd, but to charge along the edge of the dense crowd of Bandits; to his right was a sea of Bandits chasing the retreating Warriors, and as the Long Spear descended, the spear tip swept across the bodies of one Bandit after another.
It was like a hot knife through butter, or a wooden stick smashing into tofu.
When the sharp blade of the Long Spear cut through a Bandit's body, it was the former; when Jier twisted his wrist to whip the Long Spear out violently, it was the latter, shattering the head of some Bandit.
He merely rode past the side of the crowd, and the seven or eight Bandits on this side fell one after another, dying like wheat straw cut down by a sickle.
The Bandits, unprotected by Metal Armor, were left with horrific wounds on their bodies; their upper torsos were sometimes completely split open, as if torn apart by a huge, terrifying Monster. Or, on the corpses of the fallen Bandits, the entire head was simply missing.
That was because Jier had used the Long Spear to smash their heads apart.
Having said so much, the entire process actually only took a few seconds; many Bandits had not even reacted before their companions on one side fell one after another, dying a miserable death.
"Ah? Ahhhhh—" Some Bandits, their faces and bodies smeared with the bone fragments and brains of those whose heads had been smashed, let out terrified screams and stood frozen in place.
These were excellent targets, and the archers on the carriages immediately noticed these few people, then shifted their aim and shot these stunned Bandits down with a few 'whoosh' sounds of Arrows.
Jier glanced at the remaining sixty-some Bandits in this group, ignored them, and pulled the Jiansheng to make his warhorse charge toward the even more numerous Bandits approaching.
Those people were the big problem.
He could not let them surround the entire Caravan so easily.
At the very least, he had to break their fighting will before they reached the Caravan.
Jier put away the Dwarf Soldier Spear, picked up a Soldier Bow that was already strung from the Weapon Rack behind him, and hung a Quiver at his waist.
His left hand released the Jiansheng, letting the warhorse adjust its path only by the nudging of his legs. The warhorse's running direction slightly veered away from the charging Bandit Group, avoiding their attack range; he took an Arrow, drew the bow, released his grip, and fired.
Jier moved with great speed, not considering the durability of the Soldier Bow at all, and fired one Arrow after another with 'whoosh' sounds.
The Arrows he shot were completely different from those of the archers; the accuracy was extremely high, even though he was riding on a fast-running warhorse at the time and the target Bandits were also running quickly. But even with this shooting between movement and movement, the line of Arrows still shot down the entire front row of the Bandit Group from left to right.
They were each hit in the center of their torso by an Arrow, right at the position of the heart in the sternum.
Because there was no Metal Armor, a simple Human sternum was completely unable to withstand Jier's shots with the Soldier Bow pulled to its full capacity.
"Mmm..."
"Uh..."
"How could..."
One Bandit after another fell to the ground, looking in disbelief at the Knight shooting arrows from horseback dozens of meters away.
And the other surrounding Bandits felt even more terrified, because they had watched with their own eyes as the entire front row was picked off and shot down by Jier one by one. This efficiency of killing made their whole bodies cold; some people stopped roaring, slowed their pace, and even hid behind other Bandits, attempting to let their cheap companions block the potential slaughter.
"Don't be afraid! He can't kill us all by himself!"
This was a Bandit Leader on horseback, located in the middle of the crowd, wearing a piece of Leather Armor, likely stripped from some unlucky Caravan guard. He had both a Shield and a Long Sword, looking like a fellow with some ability.
Jier used his right hand to draw the Hunting Sword from his left waist; as he charged through the group of Bandits on horseback, he whipped the Sword in his hand violently, using the Sword as a huge throwing Flying Knife, which hit the Bandit Leader's body directly with a terrifying whistling sound.
Seeing Jier throw his Sword, this man tried to block it with the Mudu in his hand, but the Hunting Sword sliced both the man and the Shield into two pieces, scaring the surrounding Bandits into screaming and running away in chaos.
Even more terrifying was that the Luminous Longsword, which had sliced a person in two at the waist, actually spun in the air and flew back into the Knight's hand.
This moment made all the Bandits who saw this scene understand that the Knight Jier possessed a lethal trump card that they could not block no matter what, and this method could be used repeatedly.
Seeing that this group of Bandits, now reduced to less than a hundred by his single-handed slaughter, had unstable morale and signs of terrified collapse, Jier snorted, stopped paying attention to them, and let them subconsciously run toward the Caravan to engage with his Warriors.
Immediately, he set his sights on the group of over a hundred Bandits running over from the wilderness on the left.
Among this group, there seemed to be over a dozen Bandit Leaders on horseback; at a glance, they were the main force of these Bandit Groups.
Jier put away the Soldier Bow, threw the empty Quiver off the warhorse, took the Knight Curved Shield from behind with his left hand, and held the Hunting Sword high with his right hand.
The next moment, the Sword emitted a bright white light, illuminating the surroundings, causing the group of Bandits Jier had targeted ahead to slow their pace in shock. The flowing light attached itself to the surface of Jier's armor and the surface of the Shield.
After imbuing the 【Light Battle Armor】 Divine Art, Jier put away the Sword, picked up the Long Spear again, and charged straight at that group of Bandits; this time, he was going to pierce through their formation directly!
Pierce straight through the thickest part of the crowd!
Let them understand that these people had chosen the wrong target to plunder. And committing a mistake meant being killed.
