Chapter 465: The Past of Priest Feilina, the Dream of Xueya Site
Jier had never meditated before, because he was a Warrior, and a young Warrior at that, who had no need for such things at all.
Although he had heard from Knight Kela that capable Knights all had to meditate to improve their skills, he was, after all, only just entering the Knight Rank and had not reached the stage where meditation was necessary.
So at this moment, he scratched his head and could only ask the two Priests for guidance.
"Sit cross-legged on the ground, keep your buttocks grounded, keep your body naturally straight, and lift your face slightly," Priest Bata'er instructed.
"You can also lean against the big tree, keep your legs slightly apart, place your hands on your legs, and close your eyes to focus your mind. That works too," Priest Feilina added, suggesting another method.
She continued, "I have also seen a meditation method used by Warriors; it is the method I saw used by some powerful Warriors among the guards and pilgrims of the Nature Sect."
"Oh, this might be more suitable for me, perhaps." Jier pointed to the knee area of his armor; wearing armor, it was obviously difficult to cross his legs. And he did not want to lean against Dashu Bi'ao to meditate; that was clearly not safe.
So Priest Feilina said, "Then just keep your legs together, kneel on the ground, place your hands on your knees, keep your body naturally curved, and lower your head; that will do."
Hearing that he had to kneel, Jier felt some aversion, but if the orientation was not fixed, it was not impossible.
Afterwards, Jier turned his back to Dashu Bi'ao, faced a wall of the courtyard, knelt on both knees, placed his hands on his knees, kept his body in a natural state, and lowered his head slightly. He closed his eyes, and his ears no longer paid attention to the various sounds of the outside world.
As his mind focused, he soon could no longer hear the various noises around him. In the darkness after closing his eyes, he could only hear his own breathing and heartbeat, as well as the rustling of leaves in the background.
"It seems Jier doesn't look like he has never meditated before?" Priest Feilina muttered to herself. When she turned around, she realized that the other two had also gradually entered the state.
Xueya Site lay directly on the mud of the ground. He first lay down in a spread-eagle position, then felt that doing so was a bit informal, so he pulled his arms back and crossed them over his abdomen.
Strange to say, even though he had only just woken up, after lying down like this here, it didn't take long before he fell asleep with steady breathing.
Priest Bata'er took out the Wooden Agricultural God Statue he always carried with him, placed it on the ground one meter in front of him, then knelt on both knees facing the statue, pressed his palms together, closed his eyes slightly, and his mouth opened and closed silently.
Priest Feilina only had to look at Priest Bata'er's lips to know that Bata'er was silently reciting a long prayer praising the Agricultural God. This long prayer was different from the short prayers used by Priests when invoking Divine Power; it had little effect itself, but it could strengthen the Priests' resolve and simulate the personal imagined image of the deity in their minds.
This helped them become Priests of the deity and helped them strengthen their connection with the deity. It was considered a basic but important skill for a Priest.
Watching Bata'er recite this silently, Priest Feilina couldn't help but think of the time when she was young and learned this from her father and mother.
Those were the beautiful old days; her father was a hero of the Agricultural God Church, and her mother was an outstanding local Priestess of the Agricultural God. The union of the two was not only praised and blessed by countless Nongshen Believers, but even the great Agricultural God had once manifested miracles to bless them.
It was a pity that her father, as a hero, was assassinated by villains at an important festival celebration, and her mother went insane due to this major tragedy and the botched Blessing Ritual.
Little she saw her life fall from the clouds because of this.
She was forced to change her name because she had to guard against being found by the villains hired by others.
She was forced to stay far away from her hometown, far away from areas where the influence of the enemies in the shadows was significant.
Fortunately, the Agricultural God and the Agricultural God Church were spread across every Kingdom and society of Humans, so hiding her or transferring her to another land was not very difficult.
Changing her name and identity, she silently started as an Apprentice Herdsman without family, re-learning from the teachers who taught her, re-acquainting herself with the fellow Novice Priest students, and re-studying those knowledge and skills she had learned and known since she was a child.
She had never told anyone, but occasionally, when praying to the Agricultural God, she would tell the Agricultural God a thought buried deep in her heart.
She wanted revenge.
She wanted to take revenge on those enemies in the shadows who caused her family's tragedy.
The Agricultural God had never responded to her prayers, but she, being clever, had long understood.
The Agricultural God neither agreed nor opposed.
She was arranged by the Church to be in Big Tree Village, and she also knew it was not a random arrangement. Because Big Tree Village had a big tree that possessed wisdom, the knowledge and skills she needed for revenge could be sought entirely from this big tree.
And that was exactly what she did.
Priest Feilina spent two years learning the method of communicating with Dashu Bi'ao from a friendly Priest of the Nature Sect. This allowed her to know the general answer of Dashu Bi'ao through the swaying of the tree branches and the rustling sound they made, without needing to enter the spiritual world.
You ask what is the use of this?
Priest Feilina could sit in the courtyard at will and ask the questions that puzzled her with her mouth. And Dashu Bi'ao could respond to Priest Feilina's questions with a yes or no answer through the slight shaking of its branches and the rustling sound made by the swaying leaves.
It looked inconvenient, but in fact, as long as the person asking reached the key points, this method was quite efficient.
Through this method, plus Priest Feilina's continuous supplementation of the situation at that time over the years, Dashu Bi'ao had used its wisdom to analyze for her exactly what had happened, who those enemies in the shadows were, and how they killed her father and destroyed the ritual to drive her mother insane.
Furthermore, the big tree had compassionately given her a detailed revenge plan that seemed quite feasible.
Priest Feilina worked hard to train and accumulate the skills and resources she needed to complete the revenge plan.
It wouldn't be many years before she could go for revenge in person and personally destroy those enemies. (I will tell the related stories together in the extras after this book ends. The various extra stories that haven't been finished before will also be added for everyone at that time.)
Having said so much, in fact, Priest Feilina did not believe Jier and the others' judgment; Dashu Bi'ao was not some conspiratorial existence that would steal things or drive others to do things.
It was a big tree; even if it was a big tree with wisdom, the vast majority of its thoughts were not something Humans could understand.
First of all, it could not move, which cut off the vast majority of possibilities. This was a disadvantageous state that seemed quite uncomfortable to Humans, but to a big tree, it was naturally adapted to the state of being unable to move.
It is just like you cannot feel pity for a fish saying it cannot fly, and you cannot feel compassion for a bird saying it cannot dive.
For a big tree, it cannot move, so it does not move.
It had never thought about moving itself either.
By the same token, too many other desires and thoughts of Humans were also unnecessary and unessential to a big tree.
Dashu Bi'ao had its own special skills; because of its long survival and having communicated with some great existences, it could know the vast majority of things within the range of several Big Tree Villages without eyes. It could also know some situations in the distance through communication with birds and animals.
Added to its wisdom, this resulted in it being able to easily know things that happened a thousand miles away, and why those things happened a thousand miles away, even if it could not move.
Even the various future changes of things happening a thousand miles away.
This was the reason why it could give various Prophecy Poems with foresight.
Many times, Priest Feilina thought that if Dashu Bi'ao were a Human, it might be a very powerful Prophet or Sage. If it were a Human and studied Magic, its achievements would even far exceed those of the various Emperors of the ancient Magic Empire.
But there was also a possibility that if it were a Human, it would not be able to accumulate its current wisdom. After all, the vast majority of Humans could not live as long as a thousand years.
A thousand years ago, even the Enduo Empire, which was gradually declining today, had not even been established yet.
Priest Feilina looked at the three people lying or kneeling on the ground and smiled slightly, her smile full of helplessness. She made an apologetic gesture to Dashu Bi'ao, whose branches and leaves were swaying slightly, and then sat helplessly on the stone chair in the courtyard, muttering to herself, "Sigh, overly confident men, they perhaps have never grown up. If someone gives you a Prophecy Poem, then why not humbly try to study the Prophecy Poem carefully?"
Her eyes swept over Jier, Luosa, and Xueya Site; she did not know when the three of them would understand that complex matters often have simple solutions. For example, the loss of the Sacred Artifact this time; the Sacred Artifact was lost within the range of Big Tree Village, and Dashu Bi'ao naturally knew how the item was lost, so as long as they didn't doubt the Prophecy Poem given by Dashu Bi'ao too much, the item would have been found long ago.
And her revenge action was similar; the conspiracies and enemies in the shadows behind the events that seemed incomparably complex to her as a child, after Dashu Bi'ao's analysis, not only was the original appearance of the matter clear to her, but she even already had the plan given by Dashu Bi'ao on how to topple those enemies behind the scenes.
Sometimes, why not listen more to the suggestions given by existences smarter than you?
Priest Feilina could not understand how Warrior Jier concluded that Dashu Bi'ao stole Luosa's Sacred Artifact.
"Sigh, why don't you think more about it; a big tree, what would it want with a Wooden Bowl Sacred Artifact that can pour out wine?"
Xueya Site fell asleep.
He seemed to be asleep, because he had returned to the grasslands of his hometown.
He galloped on horseback across the infinitely vast grasslands, where the sun in the sky was occasionally obscured by clouds, turning the sunlight shining onto the ground into patches. The places covered by clouds became dark, while the places where the sun could shine were overly bright.
The wind blowing across his body while riding was also cool, far from the gradually stuffy air of the Southern Province that made him sweat incessantly.
At the top of the rolling hills ahead, his wife and children were waiting there; it seemed he only needed to ride for a little while longer to be reunited with his family.
"Shop Assistant, faster, I haven't seen my family for a while, faster, faster! Please!" Xueya Site urged the horse beneath him while waving to his family at the top of the hill.
"This is already the fastest, Shop Assistant."
Suddenly, the horse beneath him spoke while running.
Xueya Site was startled, and his entire body flipped off the horse's back.
But fortunately, the ground was soft; the plush grass meant he didn't get hurt even after falling from the horse, which should have been impossible.
"You can actually talk! My gods! A horse can actually talk!" Xueya Site flipped himself up, patted the grass clippings off his body, and said in surprise to the horse that had run too far and returned.
"Shop Assistant, this is just a dream; in a dream, of course we horses can talk." This grassland horse lowered its head and answered by bringing its head close to Xueya Site.
"That's right, that's right, this is a dream, I am dreaming!"
Xueya Site laughed heartily, flipped back onto the horse, and no longer felt surprised that a horse could talk.
He once again rode toward his family on the top of the hill.
But his horse spoke again: "Shop Assistant, do you know?"
"Know what?"
"You are a fool, a complete fool."
"Hey! You are my horse, you can't scold me, your master! Even if I am a fool! No, why am I a fool?" Xueya Site realized what was said and loudly questioned his horse.
The speed of his horse slowed down, and his family on the top of the hill seemed to have become so far away that he would never be able to reach them on horseback, at least not in a short time.
"Shop Assistant, because horses cannot talk, and we know that big trees cannot talk either." His grassland horse revealed an expression of wisdom on its long horse face.
"I know, I know! But isn't this a dream? In a dream, of course horses can talk, and big trees should be able to talk too!" Xueya Site immediately retorted.
"So you understand, Shop Assistant, that in reality, horses cannot talk, and big trees cannot talk either, right?" The horse continued to question him.
"Yes, yes, of course, my Shop Assistant, I understand all that!"
"But why, just a moment ago, did you insist on forcing a big tree that cannot talk to speak? Shop Assistant, you weren't dreaming at that time." The horse stopped, and Xueya Site, not knowing when it happened, was standing on the grass again.
But the difference was that this time he had arrived at the top of the hill, with his family right behind him.
Xueya Site could not spare the time to answer the question his horse had posed; he turned and hugged his wife, kissed her cheek forcefully, and then picked up his children, happily hoisting them onto his shoulders.
Xueya Site was much less strong compared to Jier, but he was still considered a fairly strong man. After all, he had been a Caravan guard for many years, so he easily hoisted his children onto his body.
"Shop Assistant, why did you force a big tree to talk? You clearly knew that big trees cannot talk." His horse, however, was relentless, leaning its face over and continuing to question him.
"Alright, alright, I don't know, is that enough? Jier thought a big tree could talk; he is so capable, maybe he saw a talking big tree in his hometown! I was just following along and doing the same thing. I don't care at all whether a big tree can talk or not; I just want to be with my family now, even if it is in a dream."
His children were fiddling with Xueya Site's hair, but this man did not care; he was just laughing, laughing especially happily.
The horse exhaled and turned to walk away: "You might not be a fool, but you are a simple and happy guy."
"Thank you! For letting me see my family in a dream!" Xueya Site shouted his thanks to the horse walking away.
And that grassland horse gradually walked further away, gradually disappearing into the grass.
