Chapter 512: Capturing the South Gate Sentry Post and Treating the Injured Warrior

~18 min read 3,448 words

Yongqi Maomao used its tail to coil around the enemy's Long Sword, walking around the room filled with a large amount of metal items with ease. It had no doubt about whether its subordinate Warriors could win; from its series of observations of Jier's Warriors over these days, it had long since reached a final conclusion on the battle's outcome.

It discovered that most Humans were not a match for their Maomao Warriors, and even the Human Warriors and Human Soldiers specifically used for combat were not a match for their Warriors.

Looks pretty good, right? But that was all there was to it.

In a series of events, Yongqi Maomao discovered that no matter what, they would never be a match for Jier, and even that Human tribal Priest called Bataer was someone they could do absolutely nothing about.

Because it had heard Jier mention that Bataer, wearing armed Priest Armor, was protected from head to toe by mysterious Divine Protection, and until those terrifying Divine Powers were exhausted, he would not suffer any traditional damage.

This left their Maomao with simply no way to start; sharp teeth, claws, and even the Human weapons they found could not hurt the other party, so naturally, there was no possibility of winning.

But although their Maomao were no match for these Human powerhouses, they could still easily handle ordinary Human Warriors.

Sure enough, just as Yongqi Maomao had expected, it didn't take long before that Defeated Soldier with the broken wrist was the first to be defeated.

This person had lost too much blood, but he was surrounded by the Maomao, and the constant attacks gave him no chance at all to take a piece of Rope to bind his arm and stop the blood loss.

Just like that, because of excessive blood loss, this Defeated Soldier fell heavily to the ground during a counterattack, his eyes going black, his breathing becoming difficult, and his limbs going limp and unable to exert any strength.

The Maomao would not let such a good opportunity pass; one melee Maomao entangled another Defeated Soldier, while the other three swarmed up and cleanly slit the throat of the fallen Defeated Soldier.

When only one Defeated Soldier remained, this guy didn't even have a chance to run away.

He realized things were bad, and just as he was turning to run, the back of his leg was immediately pierced by a Dagger, and a bold melee Maomao even threw its body against the Defeated Soldier's back, knocking him into a stagger.

This Defeated Soldier tried his best to escape; even if the soles of his feet were pierced, his leg bent was stabbed by a Dagger, and his cheek was slashed by a Dagger, he had to escape this place that was extremely disadvantageous to him.

But he did not get his wish, because sadly, the few of them had moved two large boxes of reserve supplies to block the passage after he entered, in order to block the small door for entering and exiting the room at the gate sentry post.

It was not that he couldn't move this thing alone, but it was absolutely impossible to do so while there were enemies present.

Thus, this Defeated Soldier turned to counterattack in despair, wanting to take one or two of these dangerous little alien creatures with him before he died.

But how could that be so easily accomplished?

The melee Maomao were all experienced Warriors; they had hunted many fierce beasts and Monsters in the mountains and forests, and they knew that when these enemies realized they were going to die, they would fight to the death, attempting to take one or two Maomao Warriors with them.

So the more it was like this, the more cautious the Maomao Warriors would be.

They used their tails to coil up the weapons of the dead Defeated Soldier, flicking their tails to provoke this trapped beast from a distance.

"Damn it! Damn it, damn it, damn it! I will not die like this at the hands of you treacherous alien creatures. You lowly alien creatures, things without shame!"

After roaring this sentence, the Defeated Soldier reversed the Long Sword in his hand, passing it through a gap in the front of his Armor that only he knew about, and then his arm exerted force, piercing his chest; his heart was damaged, and this Soldier soon died because his heart stopped beating.

The four melee Maomao excitedly watched the enemy die; they then looked around the room they had captured and were immediately overwhelmed by the large amount of metal items in the room.

With meows and chirps, they began to discuss loudly.

Yongqi Maomao dropped the weapon on its tail, strapped the Dagger to the tactical belt on its back, and then followed the stairs they had come in on to reach the top platform, waving its arms and wagging its tail at Jier's Warriors waiting outside.

"Taken!"

The few Warriors on the wall had previously heard the Human screams and the wails of the wounded coming from inside the gate sentry post, but they had not heard any more shouts from the Maomao, so they felt uneasy, not knowing if these furry little friends could take down this tough enemy Jiedian.

But Jier the Knight thought they could, so they felt they could too; those little guys were specifically chosen and brought along by Jier the Knight, so they must have some skills, right?

Unexpectedly, in less than a minute or two, these little Maomao had taken down the enemy Jiedian they were helpless against.

The Warriors on the wall immediately rushed toward the south gate sentry post, and even the Warrior who had just fallen off the wall due to a mistake and landed in the Cunzi hurried to the inside of the gate and came up from the inclined wooden ladder here.

The Warriors wanted to open the wooden door of the gate sentry post, but they couldn't push it at all, and hitting it with their shoulders had no effect. Seeing this, Yongqi Maomao hurriedly stood on top and shouted down: "Blocked. Wooden door, inside, blocked, boxes. Cannot, open."

Knowing the situation that it could not be opened, the Warriors kicked the wooden door that could not be opened twice, then ran down the wall from the wooden ladder on one side, opened the south gate of the Cunzi, and hurriedly carried the two injured companions outside to let Bata'er Jiaoshi take a look; afterwards, Jier's shout came from afar: "Close the gate, and find a way to block it!"

Only then did the Warriors hurriedly close the gate again after sending out the wounded, and tried to find something to block the gate.

But the south gate was empty, there was nothing around, and the only place with supplies stored was inside the gate sentry post above their heads that could not be opened.

There was no other way, so the Warriors had to give up this task, go back up to the wall from the stairs inside the Cunzi, and hurriedly continue along the wall toward the east side of the Cunzi. Of course, this time they were much more careful, no longer in a hurry, but lined up in formation, raising all the Shields they could find to advance along the passage on the wall.

The Maomao also left one Maomao to guard the supplies and chased after Jier's Warriors.

At this time, Bata'er Jiaoshi let the Warriors beside him advance along the wall, while he himself urgently treated the two injured Warriors.

One was shot in the back, and one was shot in the calf with an Arrow.

The former was seriously injured, while the latter was fine; it only hit the calf and did not pierce the tibia in the calf with the Arrow, so it was just a simple flesh wound.

As for the Warrior shot in the back, he was much more serious. Bata'er Jiaoshi used the Dagger the Warrior carried with him, with the help of the Warrior shot in the calf, to first cut open the jacket of the Warrior shot in the back.

After looking, the Jiaoshi discovered that the enemy's Arrow had shot through the Warrior's scapula from the back, and then injured the Warrior's lungs, so although the Warrior was injured at this time, he could not cry out in pain, because as soon as he opened his mouth, or even breathed, he would trigger severe pain in the wound.

But this degree of injury could not be left alone; the injury to the lungs caused the Warrior to cough incessantly, and every time he coughed, he would cough up blood of a lighter color.

The Jiaoshi understood that such an injury required him to perform continuous Divine Magic Healing after removing the Arrow, but clearly, he did not have this time now. After thinking it over, Bata'er Jiaoshi said to the Warrior: "Are you still conscious now?"

The Warrior hurriedly nodded continuously; he could not speak, because speaking would trigger pain in the arrow wound, causing him to cough, not only coughing up blood but also causing the metal arrowhead that shot into his lungs to move, injuring more lung organs.

"Like this, I can treat this injury, but it can only wait until after the battle ends. Although it is a bit cruel, I don't have more time now."

Hearing Bata'er Jiaoshi's words, the Warrior's face looked a bit dim; he pursed his lips tightly to keep the blood in his mouth from flowing out, but what he didn't notice was that a person's trachea is connected to the nose; he coughed blood, and even if he didn't open his mouth, some blood still flowed out from his nose.

Bata'er Jiaoshi wiped the Warrior's face with the sleeve of his Robe, carefully wiping away the blood, and continued: "I will first use Divine Art to forcibly heal the place where you were shot, and temporarily heal the enemy's Arrow together with your body. Although it is reckless, at least it will not let you continue to lose blood, because blood loss is the most dangerous. To use Divine Art to replenish blood for the injured, a more complex church ritual is needed; although I practiced this when I was studying in the church, I simply cannot complete it on hand now."

When the injured Warrior heard that there was still a chance of survival, although he didn't quite understand the Jiaoshi's statement and didn't know what it meant to temporarily heal the Arrow together with his body, as long as there was a chance of survival, it was fine.

The Warrior could not listen to Bata'er Jiaoshi's long-winded speech at this time; he opened his blood-stained mouth and interrupted the Jiaoshi with words mixed with blood foam: "Lord Jiaoshi, please don't say any more, just do it this way! *Cough, cough*, no matter what the situation, please stop the bleeding from my wound first."

Bata'er Jiaoshi came back to his senses, realizing that now was not the time for a long-winded speech, and stopped talking. He told the Warrior who had suffered a minor injury beside him to help hold the person down, and then he knelt on the ground, facing the injured Warrior lying on his stomach, raised his hands high, and prayed loudly to the sky:

"Oh great God of Agriculture, your servant asks you for the power of healing!"

"This is a heroic Warrior who fought for you and was injured to defend farming and Faith!"

"He was wounded for you, please heal him with me, and heal the despicable arrow wound suffered by this Warrior."

"Forcibly heal the flesh on the wound, and soothe his spirit, let him fall into a deep sleep."

"His future will surely be to fight for you again, to fight to defend farming."

As soon as the Jiaoshi finished speaking, the Cyan Divine Power of the God of Agriculture on his body flourished, and then Bata'er Jiaoshi pressed his hands emitting Cyan Divine Power onto the Warrior's back, and the Divine Power of the God of Agriculture injected into the Warrior's wound, quickly making the wound heal from the inside out.

The flesh even wrapped the Arrow together, leaving the abrupt Arrow on a person's back, looking extremely strange.

While the wound was healing, the injured Warrior shouted loudly: "Itchy! So itchy! Let me scratch it, no, let me scratch it! *Cough, cough*, so itchy..."

"Hurry and hold him down! Don't let him move around!" Bata'er Jiaoshi shouted.

The Warrior who had sustained a minor injury immediately acted fiercely, pressing down on his companion to prevent him from moving around and thereby affecting the effectiveness of the current treatment.

Fortunately, this numbing itch from the treatment came and went quickly; after the bleeding stopped where the Arrow had struck, the Warrior fell into a deep sleep, which was also a way to prevent him from moving around and causing the Arrow in his back to injure him again.

Previously, while in the Refugee Team, Priest Bataer had realized this point; many injured Refugees would affect the treatment results because they moved around due to the numbing itch while receiving treatment. Furthermore, it was often not like now, where a significant amount of Divine Power was used for treatment at once, because there were many injured people at that time, and he needed to use every bit of the Agriculture God's Divine Power on his person cautiously, so many injuries could only be healed after several sessions.

Moreover, if the injured people did not rest well and moved or ran around in the middle of treatment, their injuries would not only fail to improve but sometimes even worsen. At that time, he had gained experience: during treatment, he would simultaneously pray to the great Agriculture God for an effect that would let the people fall into a peaceful sleep. Although it was just a very ordinary way to make people sleep—which wouldn't work if people didn't want to—the Refugees, who were mentally weak after being injured, were still prone to accepting this sleep-inducing effect, which also allowed him to use only a tiny bit of Divine Power to achieve a healing effect no less than directly using a healing Prayer.

He understood then that things like treatment required comprehensive consideration; many things that did not need the use of Divine Power could be handled simply with his hands, while some seemingly redundant operations and the consumption of extra Divine Power could actually save more of the Agriculture God's Divine Power for treatment.

"Phew, alright, now he just needs to lie like this and not move around; wait until we have completely taken Changmai Village before we give him detailed treatment for his wounds. So, what about you?"

Seeing Priest Bataer look at him, the Warrior who had an Arrow in his calf immediately shook his head: "No, no, Priest, my injury is no matter; I will handle it myself. I know how to stop the bleeding; I'll just use a cloth strip to tie the front of the wound on my leg tightly. You just go ahead and busy yourself with other things; I will take him and hide nearby first, and wait until the battle is over."

"That's fine, just remember not to tie it too tightly; after the wound stops bleeding, you can appropriately loosen the Rope or cloth strip used for binding. As for the Arrow that pierced your calf, do not pull it out now; it will be better to cut the arrow shaft later to remove this Arrow."

Priest Bataer finished speaking in a nagging manner before leaving, feeling uneasy. The Warrior with the injured leg carefully moved his feet, slowly shifting himself and his injured, sleeping companion to an inconspicuous corner nearby, waiting for the battle to end completely before coming out.

As for Jier, he had been patrolling the south side of the village on Tianxuecao.

He did not stay very close to the village, basically keeping a distance of three or four hundred meters as he rode back and forth from the west side of the village, all the way around to the east side.

He looked left and right while riding, occasionally casting the Far-seeing Divine Art taught to him by the Great Bird Deity, checking to see if any enemy messengers were leaving the village after the enemy sounded the alarm, while also watching from afar as Priest Bataer led his men to clear the village walls.

He shook his head as he watched, feeling that he really could not hold too many expectations for Priest Bataer leading a team in battle.

Because from the very beginning of the battle, Priest Bataer had been unable to demonstrate sufficient control over his Warriors. Although the Warriors all listened to him, Priest Bataer had not truly conducted detailed tactical command, nor had he been able to keep the two teams on and off the wall at a distance that allowed for mutual support.

It was fine at the start, as the Priest could still help those above a little, but then it turned into a mess. Priest Bataer needed to wait for the archers below, so his speed could not be too fast, thereby becoming disconnected from the Warriors above. And the reckless Warriors, having lost the support from below, also suffered injuries during the battle.

Although there were no deaths, there were now people injured, which meant that those participating in the battle would not be able to return to the combat sequence for a short time.

Even with convenient means like Divine Magic Healing, a Warrior who had been injured would still need at least several days from the time of injury to healing, and then to recuperating their body to fight again.

Their numbers were not high; with one person fewer, the subsequent battles would be even harder to deal with. Moreover, injured Warriors would find it difficult to continue accumulating experience in battle, and an injured body could not undergo martial arts training; in any case, they would fall a step behind those who were not injured.

A little bit behind here, a little bit behind there, and in the end, it would lead to the Warrior who was injured first always being the weakest one in subsequent battles due to the difference in skill, always getting injured, receiving treatment, and recuperating. This further widened the gap in level compared to the other uninjured Warriors.

These things could not be thought about too deeply; just thinking about them gave Jier a headache.

When the enemy retreated into the guardhouse on the south gate, Jier saw Priest Bataer's helplessness at a glance. Having no other choice, he had to 'suggest' from a distance that Priest Bataer send the Mao Maos—who had been following the team but were unable to catch up to the initial battle due to their short legs and slow pace—up to fight.

Jier understood the combat power of those Mao Maos and also knew the combat level of the enemy Defeated Soldiers. Therefore, he naturally knew that in that situation, the Mao Maos could not possibly lose the battle while occupying a numerical advantage.

Sure enough, as he expected, the guard post at the south gate was taken, and the Warriors continued to advance. With the previous lesson, they also slowed their pace, beginning to advance steadily and securely, and the team on the wall and the support team outside the wall also began to look out for and support each other.

"Very good, very good. Although it wasn't very good at the start, everyone quickly adjusted and adapted slightly to this battle atmosphere. Then, it's time for me to move too. Tianxuecao, head toward that side, charge at full speed."

Jier urged his warhorse and galloped rapidly toward the west side of the village.

Over there, a Defeated Soldier wearing a green Cloak was climbing over the ruins of the wall that had been burned by the fire earlier, then crouching and running forward in the farmland outside the village, appearing to be heading straight for the woods on the west side of the village.

The enemy seemed to have specifically chosen this direction where there was no one before setting out, but the enemy did not know that the sharp-eyed Jier had discovered him directly.
