Chapter 520: The Enemy's Legendary Experience, Jier's Advance
The battle at the Grain Warehouse had already ended by the time Priest Bata'er arrived.
Although the two enemy soldiers responsible for guarding the Grain Warehouse gate were not weak—one-on-one, they could even suppress Aoni with their martial arts and strength, and were only slightly weaker than Weier—the continuous waves of Warriors and Mao Mao relied on their numerical advantage to defeat these two capable enemies.
These two enemy soldiers were covered in wounds of all sizes, and the Soldier Armor they wore was riddled with damaged Metal Armor Plate.
"What a troublesome opponent!" Aoni respectfully straightened the two enemy corpses; having no time to process them, he simply handed the enemies' fine swords and shields to his companions whose weapons were inferior, then directed everyone who had come to support to spread out around the Grain Warehouse.
"Get into groups of two or three, go to the surrounding Villager houses, and use whatever you can find to set up obstacles and defensive lines. The enemy could come at any time, hurry up!" Aoni commanded everyone, then pointed to three archers and gestured toward the roof of a Villager house closest to the Grain Warehouse: "You three, go up to that roof and provide support with your bows."
The archers nodded and ran over quickly.
At this moment, Priest Bata'er came over, and the situation here had already been roughly arranged: "Aoni, where should I go?"
Aoni did not stand on ceremony, directly patting himself and then pointing to Weier beside him: "Lord Priest, you join our group of two. The three of us will act as the strongest team; wherever the enemy is fiercest, we will go to support."
"Fine, you are the Warrior Captain chosen by Jier; you make the calls for the battle arrangements."
Afterward, the three of them stood at the entrance of the Grain Warehouse, waiting for the enemy's imminent counterattack.
Would the enemy counterattack?
"Although it's not yet clear who the enemy is, they have already broken into the Cunzi." In the Church in the middle of the Cunzi, a middle-aged Soldier wearing a set of Heavy Soldier Armor covered in Metal Armor Plate said to the seven or eight Soldiers under his command.
These Soldiers were disheveled, their faces still bearing many injuries from fighting each other last night, but these guys were not worried or afraid; instead, they were rubbing their hands and were exceptionally excited.
Fighting their own people meant they couldn't go all out, and they barely saw any blood, which was no fun at all. How could it compare to the thrill of slaughtering enemies?
"Boss! Stop talking nonsense, give the order, and we'll just charge up and kill them all!" a strong Soldier who had even had a few teeth knocked out during the brawl interjected.
Unexpectedly, the middle-aged Soldier, who was not tall and lacked an imposing aura, raised his eyebrows and said sternly: "I haven't finished speaking, did I tell you to interrupt? Batuo! You won't be part of the fight later; you are responsible for guarding the Church and watching the backside for our 'Arrow Tower'!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the other Soldiers burst into laughter, while the strong Soldier named Batuo had an ugly expression, muttering that he didn't want to watch anyone's backside.
"Also, while you're at it, look for Ke'en and Lisi in the Church, who have been missing since last night. Who knows where they went to mess around? Find them and have them guard the Church with you. There's no place for them in such a good thing as a battle."
The strong Warrior named Batuo gave up on caring, and since he was already being left behind to watch a backside for interrupting, he wasn't afraid of any other punishment, so he continued to interject: "Our 'Arrow Tower' definitely won't like having Ke'en and Lisi under his backside, because he's afraid his backside won't be ambushed by the enemy, but by these two!"
The Soldiers roared with laughter again, and the middle-aged Soldier couldn't help but laugh as well. He looked speechlessly at the wisecracking Batuo and said: "Then you just guard the ladder leading from the hall to the Church Bell Tower; don't let those two guys disturb our 'Arrow Tower.' His long-range support is very important in the battle."
The middle-aged Soldier's expression then turned serious: "Everyone else, take your weapons and equipment and follow me. According to the Captain's previous instructions, if the attacking enemy wants to take the Grain Warehouse, we must burn it down. Even if it's burned, it cannot be left to any enemy."
After he finished speaking, he looked at the empty spot beside him. This was where his nephew had originally stood, but he had just sent his nephew out as a messenger to deliver the news of the enemy attack on Changmai Village to the main force in the Southern Mountains.
He still hoped his nephew could survive, rather than waiting for death in this dead zone abandoned by their own people, even though he knew that the others in the mountains, the other Soldiers, probably wouldn't have a good end either.
But he had no other choice. Between the choice of certain death and possible death, he could only let his nephew choose the one that looked slightly better.
Even though his nephew had actually been stabbed to death by Jier, who was patrolling outside the Cunzi, just as he left the village.
The Soldiers went to get their equipment, but soon a Soldier reported that the weapons and equipment left in the tool room for maintenance last night were missing.
Exhaling, the middle-aged Soldier guessed: "Everyone is here, only Ke'en and Lisi are missing; it must be them who took them. But it's not like they didn't have weapons and equipment, why take everyone else's? Forget it, take your backup gear and prepare for a bitter battle without Armor later! If you die, don't blame me; go blame Ke'en and Lisi."
Everyone cursed the two missing people, but cursing was just cursing; no one made any harsh threats about what they would do to the two later. Mainly, when passing through the Southern Mountains, Ke'en, this sissy guy, had once saved everyone's life, and they all owed him. If Ke'en hadn't volunteered to take the risk and lure away a Magic Beast, the one or two hundred of them would likely have died in that Magic Beast attack.
The situation at the time was very perilous. Knight Hate was in a coma due to recurring burn injuries, and everyone was huddled in a mountain hollow to rest when a huge horse-shaped Magic Beast approached the entrance and blocked everyone inside.
The horse-shaped Magic Beast was covered in huge, hard leaves, and the ordinary bows and swords of these Soldiers couldn't hurt it at all. The brave fighters who went out to attack were grabbed and strangled by snake-like vines emerging from the ground. Basically, unless the Knight woke up and made a desperate strike, it was a dead end for them.
Just as everyone was in despair, Ke'en heard that horse-shaped Magic Beast humming a song, though no one knew where the beast had heard it.
But Ke'en, whose family was involved in theatrical performances, happened to be quite familiar with that song.
He stood up, while everyone else was despairingly waiting for death.
Step by step, he sang the song he knew, matching it with the song hummed by the huge horse-shaped Magic Beast.
At the time, these Soldiers were terrified; many were prepared to commit suicide rather than be eaten by the Magic Beast. As a result, Ke'en sang the song and just walked away, even leading the singing huge Magic Beast out of the mountain hollow step by step.
It wasn't until noon the next day that Ke'en walked back alone. According to him, the Magic Beast could actually speak Human Common Language, and it didn't know where it had heard human songs, but it had grown fond of them. However, its singing was not standard, and Ke'en had even corrected some of the mistakes in the song for the Magic Beast.
This legendary experience, which saved everyone's life, made everyone in the team look up to Ke'en, the young Soldier who had previously been weak and sissy. Later, when Knight Hate woke up from his coma, he highly praised Ke'en's actions, calling it a classic victory of civilization, where civilized music successfully tamed a savage Magic Beast.
So even though Ke'en and his lover Lisi were missing now, and it was unknown why they had taken their weapons and equipment and disappeared, everyone didn't blame Ke'en for anything. These rude Soldiers were simple guys; they owed someone a life, so they didn't care if the other party wanted to take back their own lives, or other weapons and wealth, or when or how they chose to take them.
Even if Ke'en said he had nothing to do and wanted to stab each of them with a Dagger, these rude and honest Soldiers would pat their stomachs and tell Ke'en to aim carefully, without dodging at all.
But this did not mean these Soldiers were good people. When they received the Captain's order to attack Changmai Village, they didn't hesitate much; they picked up their weapons and killed, not only killing innocent Villagers but also burning houses and looting the Villagers' property.
Even after capturing most of the Villagers, they raped many female Villagers.
The complexity of human nature is evident.
After a simple cleanup, the middle-aged Soldier led six fierce Soldiers out of the Church gate and headed straight for the Grain Warehouse to the south of the Church.
As for the Soldier named Batuo in the Church, after closing the Church gate from the inside, he just found a long bench, lay down, and went to sleep. He didn't care at all that a tense battle was going on, or whether they would die.
On Jier's side, he rode his horse straight toward the enemy Jiedian in the north of the Cunzi.
From far away, he saw many listless Defeated Soldier gathering in a farmhouse courtyard. Some house dogs trying to curry favor with them were kicked away by the frustrated Defeated Soldier and retreated into the Dog Kennel, whimpering.
The Horseshoe of the warhorse running on the dirt road in the Cunzi made a loud rumbling sound, and those Defeated Soldier soon noticed that the newcomer was heading toward them.
"Not our people! Everyone watch out and hide, a Cavalryman is coming! Damn it, where did a Cavalryman come from?" A Soldier who had rarely slept last night and hadn't eaten the food made by the Cook shouted loudly to warn his companions with full vigor.
But although he told everyone to hide, these Defeated Soldier were all exhausted from diarrhea and vomiting; just putting on their own Soldier Armor had already exhausted most of their strength.
There were also some Defeated Soldier who had been hallucinating from what they ate; they were being helped to sit on chairs by their companions and were completely unable to respond to the sudden situation. They were talking nonsense, greeting and conversing with the air around them.
Jier approached rapidly, waving his Long Spear to deflect the Arrows shot at him. Some Arrows hit the Armor of Tianxuecao; they either pierced in, hanging the entire Arrow, or were deflected, unable to hurt the warhorse in the slightest.
Occasionally, an Arrow that wasn't knocked away by Jier's Long Spear hit him, but it was perfectly blocked by the Armor he was wearing.
After approaching these Soldiers along the street, some Defeated Soldier holding bows and arrows to fight back subconsciously hid; they either lay down or hid behind the Fence of the courtyard, thinking Jier couldn't see them.
In fact, after riding on horseback, the rider's field of vision is far better than standing on the ground, just like a teacher in a classroom in a previous life, who could clearly see every move of all the students in the entire classroom just from the podium.
So, did those Defeated Soldier who thought they were simply hiding really think Jier couldn't see them?
Jier answered them with the thrust of his Long Spear.
"Ah!" As Jier passed by, he thrust his spear, piercing directly through the Fence and then through the chest of a Defeated Soldier, dragging the Soldier along and tossing him to smash into the back of a fleeing Soldier ahead.
Facing the enemy soldiers who were lying down to hide, Jier pulled the Jiansheng with his left hand, carefully adjusting the warhorse's direction, and deliberately let Tianxuecao trample over the enemy's back.
This unlucky enemy soldier couldn't even let out a wail; he spat blood from his mouth and nose, his chest collapsed from the warhorse's trampling, and he died instantly.
One enemy Defeated Soldier seemed not to have eaten the poisonous food last night; he was currently jumping around as he rushed into a house nearby, then shot arrows outward from the window.
Jier let the opponent shoot, and he himself put away his Long Spear, took out the captured Soldier Bow, and shot an Arrow back in retaliation.
The results for the two were completely different. The target of this Defeated Soldier's shot was the moving Jier, and both he and his warhorse were covered in heavy Armor; not to mention dodging, even if he just stood there and let this Soldier shoot at will, for this Soldier to want to injure Jier, he would have to luckily hit the eye area of the man or the horse.
But how difficult is that.
As for Jier's side, the enemy was hiding behind the wooden window of the house, in a fixed position; although he was wearing Soldier Armor, the opponent's Armor had no protection for the face and neck, and at this moment, while shooting arrows outward, he had exposed both of these unprotected areas.
Jier was then not polite, shooting an Arrow backhand that directly hit the Defeated Soldier's throat, causing this Defeated Soldier to collapse behind the wooden window clutching the Arrow in his throat, struggling on the ground.
"Ha! I knew it." Jier shouted excitedly, put away the bow and arrow, took out his Long Spear again, slowed down and turned around at the end of the street, and then charged over again.
This time the enemy Soldiers scattered and fled, either diving into courtyards or slipping into any random house nearby. But most still fled back to the large Villager house they had occupied.
Jier knocked over another panicked Defeated Soldier on the street, used his Long Spear to flick him away after turning around, and then jumped off his horse. He patted Tianxuecao on the rump, letting him wander around the Cunzi on his own, waiting for his summons.
Jier then drew his Long Sword, kicked open a section of the Fence of the enemy Jiedian, and swung his sword to kill the Defeated Soldiers who were still lingering in the courtyard at this time.
These two Defeated Soldiers had eaten poisoned food last night, causing severe hallucinations, and at this moment, they were not yet sober, even talking to the air beside them.
Jier did not pity these enemies; he went up and delivered a straight thrust with his sword, piercing and ruining one enemy's face and head. He then swung a Horizontal Slash at the other enemy beside him, severing the enemy's head.
"No! Awa! You bastard!!!" A roar came from inside the house, and a rather weak but tall Soldier rushed out clutching a wooden chair.
"Give me back my brother's life!!" This man threw the wooden chair fiercely at Jier, but Jier just lightly hopped to the side and avoided the opponent's projectile.
Tilting his head, Jier watched this man panting heavily just from throwing a chair, feeling very satisfied with his poisoning operation yesterday. Later, when attacking the Mine occupied by the enemy, he could use this trick again.
The weakening of the enemies by this Poison Mushroom Powder was visible to the naked eye; this man should have been a capable enemy Soldier, but after having diarrhea for half the night, even a man of iron had turned into a soft noodle, and at this moment, he could not even pick up his own weapon.
Not bothering to talk to this man, Jier lowered his body and sprinted forward; as he passed the opponent, his Hunting Sword sliced through the flesh of the opponent's neck, and then Jier charged toward the gate of the Jiedian, rushing straight in.
But as soon as he entered, Jier regretted it, because it was too smelly inside the house!
The whole room was filled with the smell of feces.
