Chapter 608: In the Jiedian — Knight Hartna Finally Makes a Move
Seeing that no one in the squad opposed his proposal, Yeluba snorted a puff of air from his nose at Adjutant Piluo, then issued an order: "We cannot hold our ground here; it is useless. Everyone form three rows in a fan-shaped formation, face the aliens, and move slowly sideways!"
After the order was issued, he followed the various Squad Leaders in the squad to direct the soldiers in arranging the formation.
Soldiers holding shields with both hands stood in the outermost layer, roughly in a semi-circular arc, while soldiers with a Soldier Sword in one hand and a Soldier Shield in the other stood in the second row, with a slightly smaller number of men, acting as filling for the inside of the semi-circular arc, also facing outward.
The third row on the innermost side consisted of soldiers holding Soldier Bows; they were few in number, only a few men, and were preciousy arranged in the middle position, standing together with the commanding Squad Leader and the Grand Squad Leader Yeluba.
The soldiers quickly adjusted their positions, while the Mao Mao confronting them from the front were also restless, seemingly wanting to take advantage of the human soldiers adjusting their formation to attack and gain an edge.
But Yeluba shouted at this moment: "Archers! Nock arrows, prepare for three volleys!"
The Mao Mao could roughly understand Human Common Language, so as soon as they heard that the humans were going to fire arrows, they immediately scattered, preparing to dodge the incoming arrows.
But Yeluba was just bluffing; he said he would fire arrows, but he didn't actually fire, instead using the time while the Mao Mao were scattered and unable to attack in a group to have his men finish adjusting the battle formation.
When the battle formation was completed, he shouted again: "Archers, cancel the order. Everyone, prepare to face the enemy, move slowly sideways to the right!"
The archers took the arrows off the bowstrings and held them in their hands again. The dozens of people in the entire battle formation all faced the Mao Mao, ready to move together.
Immediately, Yeluba shouted: "Everyone, move sideways to the right, one step!"
Clatter, everyone took a step to the right in unison; the formation was slightly chaotic, but only slightly.
The Mao Mao were startled, but seeing that the human soldiers only maintained the formation and moved a small step, they didn't take it to heart.
But immediately after, Yeluba's voice sounded again: "Everyone, move sideways to the right, two steps! Move!"
Clatter, clatter, everyone took two steps to the right; this time the entire squad could clearly see they had moved a tiny distance. They were not far from the wooden house of Knight Hartna, only about thirty meters; if they rushed over quickly, it would only take a few seconds, but the formation would obviously fall apart immediately, and the greatest reliance the human soldiers had against the Mao Mao, who were greater in number, would disappear, which would actually be very unfavorable for the battle.
Therefore, even though the distance between the two sides was only a few dozen meters, the movement still had to be honestly maintained together as a battle formation.
Everyone had actually trained for this before, but the vast majority of the training at that time was on how to advance, retreat, and disperse as a whole while maintaining the battle formation; they hadn't trained for moving sideways as a whole, but everyone understood the principle.
So after Yeluba began to command, everyone also looked the part, neatly maintaining their respective positions, and successfully moved sideways.
"Very good, everyone, readjust your orientation, face the enemy. Continue to move sideways to the right, two steps, move!"
Yeluba dared not let the soldiers take a few more steps at once, because he was afraid that if they took a few more steps, the formation between each soldier would be difficult to maintain, thereby letting the alien Beast see the chaos and flaws, which was not what he wanted.
The Mao Mao also readjusted their own team following the orientation and movement of the human soldiers.
Among the Mao Mao, several of their leaders gathered together, whispering and discussing why the humans were moving like this at this time; there must be some reason for the other side to do so.
Are they looking for food and water by moving? It's possible, but there's no need for everyone to move together; it would be enough to send a few people out to search at once, there's no need for everyone to start moving.
Therefore, they felt that there must be other purposes.
The leaders of the Mao Mao were not stupid; they soon suspected that there was something fishy about the movement direction of the human soldiers and immediately sent Mao Mao Warriors over to search in advance.
And Yeluba, who had been paying attention to the situation here, saw the alien Beast send warriors to search the wooden house where Knight Hartna was, and he was blooming with joy inside, but he said to the Squad Leader next to him: "You come and continue to command, my mouth is dry as hell."
This reason was sufficient; everyone's throats were basically smoking, and it was indeed unlikely that they could issue loud orders for a long time. The Squad Leader took over the command without suspicion and continued to issue orders for everyone to move sideways step by step to the wooden house of Knight Hartna.
And beside Yeluba, he and his few trusted subordinates, taking advantage of the moment when everyone was facing the Mao Mao and focused on moving, stepped back slowly, lightened their footsteps, and increased the distance from the crowd.
They retreated all the way to the edge of the wall, then turned and walked onto the wall, hung the rope on the edge of the wall several meters high, and then quickly slid down the rope to the outside of the wall.
"Phew, that's better, let's hide in the forest, haha, next we just need to wait for Knight Hartna to kill all the alien Beast."
Yeluba still had something left unsaid: after Knight Hartna used the 【Courage Potion】 in advance and killed all the rebellious alien Beast, the Knight himself would also be finished; with such heavy injuries, plus the last bottle of potion used up, as long as he waited for the potion's effect to pass, he would have absolutely nothing to fear here!
"This can't be said not to be a good thing; what is wisdom? What is cleverness? This is it!" Yeluba boasted to himself complacently, and the trusted subordinates around him also chimed in from time to time; the atmosphere among these few people was very good for a moment.
But the atmosphere between the two sides in the Jiedian was not so good. Adjutant Piluo could no longer stand it when he saw the alien Beast send warriors to check the wooden house of Knight Hartna in advance; he rushed out of his battle formation position and ran quickly toward the house where the Knight was, holding his sword and shield.
He ran with all his might, but he was still one step slower than the light and agile Mao Mao Warriors. Knowing that Knight Hartna would have no way out once he used the last bottle of potion, he shouted with all his might: "Duolin! Duolin! Don't use the potion! I'll come to drive them away!"
The situation was urgent, and he couldn't care about honorifics, directly calling out the name of Knight Hartna; this was the name they would only call when they were children. By the time both sides grew up, Adjutant Piluo hadn't called Knight Hartna like that for several years.
But it was too late; a loud cough from Knight Hartna came from the wooden house, and then the wooden house shook a few times and fell silent.
Piluo jumped directly into the pit leading in and out of the wooden house, just in time to run into a Mao Mao Warrior running out with a face full of terror.
He ignored the other party, his heart sank, and he rushed into the house on all fours.
The house was still poorly lit, with only a small amount of weak light from the Lighting Device that could barely see things.
And Knight Hartna, who had been lying on the ground unable to get up, was now standing in the middle of the house, holding the neck of a Mao Mao Warrior in one hand, and with the other hand, he had formed his fingers into a blade, pierced through the chest of a Mao Mao Warrior, and lifted it up.
"It's too late, Piluo..."
Knight Hartna shook his head; although his voice was still hoarse, the situation sounded much more normal.
But Piluo knelt on the ground powerlessly: "You shouldn't have used the potion. You used it now, without the 【Lizardman Transformation Potion】, what will you do? You will die!"
Knight Hartna was open-minded: "It's okay, before the potion wears off, I will help you solve Yeluba and these restless aliens."
The Knight flicked his hand and threw the Mao Mao Warrior who had been pierced through the chest heavily against the inner wall of the wooden house.
He used a lot of force, and the entire wooden house trembled.
Then he exerted a little force with his left hand and said to the controlled Mao Mao Warrior: "I know you can understand Human Common Language, tell me, why are you rebelling? Didn't we cooperate happily before?"
This Mao Mao Warrior spat and said with difficulty: "Deception, vicious, metal, deception, us."
Hartna and Piluo looked at each other, not understanding what this Mao Mao was saying.
If they couldn't understand, they wouldn't listen; he squeezed with his left hand and crushed the neck of this Mao Mao Warrior, even snapping its neck. The headless furry corpse fell to the ground, followed immediately by a furry cat head falling to the ground.
Knight Hartna moved his body and sighed: "Less than thirty percent of the Life Energy remains, the wounds on my body won't heal, so I can only rely on the power of the potion to barely hold on, but I can't hold on for long."
He picked up his sword and the olive-shaped Knight Shield from the ground beside him and strode out of the house: "Hurry up, we can't delay."
When Knight Hartna walked out of the wooden house, it was the Defeated Soldier who immediately let out exclamations and cheers.
They didn't expect that Knight Hartna, who had multiple wounds on his body and whose wounds were rotting and stinking, could actually get up and fight as Yeluba had said. This made some of the soldiers who had cursed the Knight before and had personally participated in the rebellion look at the core of the formation uneasily, wanting to find Yeluba to seek psychological comfort.
But unexpectedly, when the soldiers turned their heads, they couldn't see the figures of Yeluba and his few trusted subordinates.
"Damn dog! Did he run away in advance? Then I have to run too!" Some soldiers didn't dare to look at Knight Hartna; once they saw Yeluba run away in advance, they didn't care about the battle formation, and ran away with their heads down, heading straight for the camp near the wall. This person intended to find a camp of fellow soldiers, take some food and water supplies, and run into the forest to leave this place completely.
They didn't know how long the potion on Knight Hartna could last, so rather than waiting for the Knight's potion effect to pass and then dying, it would be better to just take the money and run.
After all, things were breaking out in the camp in waves, and anyone could see that this place was no longer habitable.
One soldier fled, leading other soldiers who were still watching to flee one after another.
"Hey hey hey! What are you doing? Follow Knight Hartna to launch an attack!" shouted a commanding Squad Leader.
The result was that he was immediately berated by a Soldier who ran over: "You idiot, don't you think about it? When we were forcing the Knight and the Adjutant earlier, were you not there? If you don't run now, are you waiting for the Knight to finish dealing with the Beast and then deal with you?"
This Squad Leader thought it made sense, so he abandoned his command responsibilities and ran off as well.
They all went to the surrounding tents first to grab food and survival supplies and tools as quickly as possible; as for wealth, they took as much as they could, but leaving as soon as possible remained the priority.
But even so, many of the fleeing Soldiers did not have it so easy; they ran into the Mao Mao Warriors who were searching the tents for wealth and metal objects.
The Mao Mao Warriors did not understand the sudden change of events outside and were merely blindly scrambling for things.
Consequently, the fleeing Soldiers had to defeat these obstructing Mao Mao Warriors before they could successfully escape.
As for Knight Hartna, the moment he stepped out of the wooden hut, he squeezed his eyes shut tightly.
During the days he spent recovering from his severe injuries in the dimly lit wooden hut, he had long since adapted to a dark or lightless environment, and at this moment, it was afternoon; the early summer sun was blinding and scorching, and if he did not close his eyes, he would be unable to see anything due to the intense light.
Although he could not see the situation on the scene through his vision, his hearing alone was enough.
Clang—
The Knight drew his Long Sword; this was a Knight Sword whose blade was covered in filth and slightly corroded, heavy, sturdy, and forged entirely from Magic Material.
After Hartna was severely injured and unable to fight, he and Piluo had no heart to maintain their weapons, and the stains left from the last battle with the Monsters in the mountain forest remained on it. The corrosion on the blade of the Long Sword, however, came from some terrifying Monsters in the mountain forest that possessed acidic blood.
Even a weapon made of Magic Material would be in trouble if it encountered those Monsters that could spit acid and whose own blood and bodily fluids were acidic.
But such a Long Sword was enough to deal with the Long-Haired Lynx Beast.
The Knight kicked off the ground, and his entire person drifted toward the Mao Maos like a phantom; the Mao Maos had witnessed the prowess of the Human Knight more than once, and upon seeing Knight Hartna charging over, they scattered in a panic, using their hands, feet, and tails to assist their movement as they fled in all directions.
But the Knight's movement technique was faster; his ears twitched slightly, and hearing a Mao Mao run past his side, he turned and swung his sword.
The Knight Sword swept past this Mao Mao Warrior with a whistling sound; the Mao Mao suddenly felt its body grow light, as its entire body had been severed in two from the chest, its upper body falling to the ground while its lower body continued to run.
But the lower body could not run many more steps; even though the tail was still swinging to maintain balance, the lower body, missing its upper half, soon fell over, the Viscera from its stomach spilling all over the ground, and after the tail flicked a few times, it stopped moving.
Jier was hiding at the entrance of the Mine, and seeing Knight Hartna charge out, he was somewhat surprised.
He had thought this man was so severely injured he could not move, so he had never really paid much attention to his existence. After all, according to the intelligence he had gathered from several sources, Knight Hartna was severely injured and reeking, unable to move his body, and could only let his Adjutant come out to barely contend with Yeluba.
Thinking about it now, it was indeed a bit strange; if he relied solely on his Adjutant and had no backing, how would he dare to oppose Yeluba, who managed all the Soldiers?
There must be a reliance behind him, and the reliance was very strong, but not too strong.
After all, if it were too strong, Yeluba would not have rebelled and left the Soldiers who favored the Knight directly in Changmai Village, effectively exiling them.
Everything before his eyes was the answer.
Knight Hartna could still fight, at least for one or two final battles; this was the trump card of the Adjutant Piluo.
Jier saw Knight Hartna charge into the group of Mao Maos, shifting rapidly left and right, each swing of his sword taking the life of a Mao Mao, and he could no longer sit still.
If things continued like this, the Mao Maos would likely be routed in a minute or so, and once they were routed and lost their spirit, who would be left to entangle and deal with the Defeated Soldiers in the Yingdi? Especially since, after Knight Hartna appeared, many Defeated Soldiers were not participating in the battle, and most were even slowly retreating, showing no intention of providing support. A portion of them were even breaking away from the ranks, intending to flee.
"Interesting, but it's time for me to make an appearance. Although it's a bit early, I have to step out."
Jier instructed the Villagers who were still busy nearby to hold the entrance, which had already been piled up into a path only wide enough for one person to pass. He then held his Long Spear and strode out, heading straight for Knight Hartna, who was slaughtering the Mao Maos.
