Chapter 662: A Day Off
A day off.
As the title says, a day off. Last month I maintained a high-intensity update schedule and ensured normal updates during the Chinese New Year, so today I am giving myself a break to rest for a day and watch the TV version of Three-Body Problem.
I read the novel serialized in Science Fiction World back in the early 2000s. At the time, I felt the first part of Three-Body Problem was actually quite average; after all, the scope wasn't really that large, and it touched upon the stories of those ten years. Being young then, I felt this novel had a bit of that "scar literature" flavor that dominated bookstores at the time, which I personally found quite annoying and disliked. But I never expected the subsequent Three-Body Trilogy to exceed my imagination as a science fiction fan.
I didn't see it at the time, but later, after seeing metaphorical analyses of Three-Body Problem online, I finally understood that the Trisolarans in Liu's eyes were actually alluding to the Americans on the other side of the ocean.
However, when it came to the second part, the story of Luo Ji's struggle against the Trisolarans, it gave me a feeling no less intense than when I first read Infinite Terror in high school. It was a shivering sensation as if an electric current had passed through my entire body, all in one go. Although the final ending seemed to maintain relative peace through the Dark Forest Deterrence, I had just started university at the time and already enjoyed reading various military magazines and books on international politics, so I realized the immense danger and the inevitable catastrophic ending hidden within that calm of imbalanced power.
The third part, telling the story of Cheng Xin and Yun Tianming, is actually quite good, especially the things that the three fairy tales in the latter half of the story metaphorically predicted for the Human race. And the fact that it didn't repeat the use of Light Particle Strike to wrap things up, but instead innovatively created a conceptual weapon like the Dual-Vector Foil, made me shout in excitement at the time.
